The only thing that is weird about American racism is how hypocritical it was. Like why would black people be invited to perform at places where they weren't allowed? The cops were clearly in the right, enforcing the laws, but why would the people inviting him not make it clear it was okay or why would Miles go in the first place considering he was already successful enough he probably didn't need to.

it was some story like miles and a couple of guys from his band were taking a break (they'd play for like 3-4 hours straight for the main show, right? blowing horns and fucking playing piano, upright bass, it's hard work and physical work) they'd take smoke breaks in the alley behind the clubs. sometinmes the police would come through the alley and start fucking with them, i think this time miles mouthed off to the police man and he got hit.
