I have been working in the music industry for the past 7 years, and witnessed labels fake Pop/Rap music sales.
I used to work at a record store for 5 years before that, and i barely saw anybody buying Pop music.
Most sales where Rock/Metal or Electronic Music and Classic music.
Rap sales where only 5% of total sales, and that was around mid 2000's when rap "exploded" in the mainstream.
I thought it was just that store, but it was weird seeing all that Bubble gum Pop being number 1 all the time.
So fast forward to where i am now (i am working for a bigger mainstream label), and i see the real sales of "big" pop and rap artists/groups and they are the fucking lowest we have.
Metal (more rock ish ones) sell the most followed by EDM artists, rap is second to last and pop is dead fucking last in our sales statistics.
All the shit that is being heard on radio/youtube etc. as the "big" thing is fake and being pushed by the labels and the people who finance the label/artists.
I just post this to let some of you know what is going on behind the curtain, it's not a conspiracy that labels invent "pop" artists and push them because they get paid by certain richer people.
Rock/Metal is what keeps labels alive and they still keep those guys down, i just don't know why they would push some weird looking "pop" singer that sings about nonsense.
Really needed to get this out, thanks!
