I love Gamma Ray but I've listened to them so much I can't stand them now.

Deathcore that doesn't suck is very hard to find. I never got the appeal of Job for a Cowboy either. Most of the stuff I can stomach has heavy progressive or technical influence. I recommend:

Animosity - a bit chaotic, but the drumming is fun as hell
Depths of Hatred - basically dumbed-down tech-death
Disfiguring the Goddess - solo project with quirky sampling; also fun
The End of All Reason - my current favourite
Humanity's Last Breath - also decent

Carnifex and angelmaker have goodish albums. If you listen 2 good deathcore albuns you have heard all deathcore the genre is incredible shallow.

Metal was never about praising the individual. Sure, we respect the individual, but the core of heavy metal's belief was always rooted in brotherhood. It was about unity and fellowship. A common acknowlement that we have something that is special and nobody is above anyone else. It doesn't matter your cultural background or geological location, heavy metal was about uniting people as opposed to segregating them.

Pantera missed this point completely and effectively dealt heavy metal a powerful blow to the face (irony intended) of the things that made it special. Now, the tough guy rules and the little guys loses...it was never about that. Rather than respecting the fan, now you fight the fan. Rather than stopping a show because someone is hurt, I.E. Exodus, you throw them offstage and kill them, I.E. Randy Blythe. Now, you can only be metal if you look the part, act the part and buy into the part. Metal is not about parts or facades. It's about fellowship and honesty. Presenting a product for the fans and actually respecting them as a unified culture.

That all died with this album.

Pantera took everything that is good and right about heavy metal and made a complete mockery of it and we are still left picking up the pieces trying to prove to the contrary.

The issue presented with Pantera, and this album in particular is the method of executing their tough guy gimmick. And, just who that facade actually hurt.

It didn't hurt the trendy people who still continued to make music and have success regardless of Pantera's adamency at their irrelevance; it didn't hurt the corporations because they made money off Pantera's idiocy; no, it hurt the very people that Pantera were trying to defend:

The metalheads.

Pantera took everything that was right and good about heavy metal and completely destroyed it. I'm not only talking aurally, but physically and culturally.

Pantera created an image; an image of a tough, drug taking, fist-fighting, bar room brawler with no substance or necessity behind their attacks. They presented this image of the metalhead as a trouble making, drop out who is racist, elitist, and soaked in conservative fascism.

They displayed this image to the skeptical masses who had written off heavy metal as party time, shallow, cock rock with a bit of a feminine side. At least this still had some redeeming, humanist qualities to it. Now, with Pantera, those masses associated this tough guy, shirtless, cage fighting monster as the typical metalhead with no intelligence for lyrical content and musical composition. It was dumbed down, basic distortion, taking the few mediocre parts of thrash and embellishing them with forced, synthetic attitude to appear as the "real," the antithesis, metalhead. Instead of offering the reality that metal fans are intelligent, peaceful people, that bands such as Dream Theater, Gamma Ray and even Iron Maiden were doing, we now have a misconstrued stereotype that metal fans continue to battle to this day.
