you can buy an actual all-tube amp for cheaper. much cheaper. with sound like that you might even be better off using an amp sim.

>you can buy an actual all-tube amp for cheaper Which ones?
Levi Foster
marshall dsl40 is $50 cheaper but it's also a combo so it's more like $300+ cheaper
>inb4 muh watts watts are a waste of money. seriously.
Connor Bailey
No thanks, vox sounds like plasticky practice amp shit
John Cook
I've been playing for a few months and guitar it's fun :D Could any of you friends tell me what's the point of the major scale when the pentatonic just sounds so much better? Is it just to link scales together and move around the fretboard up and down? Sorry if it's a silly question lol
Eli Price
Not much cheaper but the vast majority of tube combos are the same price and that's just a shitty sounding head including great shit like this
if you shop around you just have to ask yourself "why the fuck would i spend all my money on a hybrid amp". it costs twice as much as other hybrid amps just because it has wannabe tubes in it.
Not sounding like bo bippity bop the blues nigga

I'm probably going to get a telecaster tomorrow
Is there any pill I should take before doing so
Michael Hall
meth, it'll make you more country
Matthew Rogers
Yeah, the invest at least 600 dollars in order to not get a piece of shit and skip the garbage player tele pill. With teles you get what you pay for.
that sucks, I was probably only going to spend around 500 I haven't
Robert Clark
>Now you see people demanding a good instrument from a guitarist even in beginner bands like it's some kind of elite club. I guess people got more aware of quality instruments because of the internet. It's just because the guitar industry turned guitarists into capitalist /fa/ggot pigs. At least 90% of guitarists just learn power chords, pentatonics, and a handful of tricks so they have an excuse to carry their gear around like a Louis Vitton Purse in public and hot glue them on the internet like big titty anime figures. STFU about gear and learn to play your instrument.
Jose Roberts
Don't bother then. The pickups on budget teles are terrible and the hardware looks extremely cheap compared to ashtray bridges that aren't coated in ten layers of poly. The player series might aswell be a squier.
Parker Mitchell
Nobody can tell the difference in a live show, and hell, you could play a strat behind a black curtain, say it was a telecaster, and be praised for your twang
Or play a les paul through a modelling amp with the virtual tuwang knob turned to 11
Gear doesn't matter anymore. We've reached the endpoint of gearfaggotry. There was an age of gear ignorance, and then an age of gear panic heralded by things like PRS guitars. But now people are becoming aware of how stupid it is and the guitar industry's response should tip you off here
>things that were SUPPOSED TO be bad are now playable, even great with a full setup and some fret work >sub-$1k guitars that professional artists will hold up and say "i'd gig with this" >cheapo digital amps and effects that sound as good as the real thing except under the ears of scrutinizing audiophiles A-Bing isolated guitar tracks (who never reach a >50% identification rate, ever)

Pretty much.
People looking into gear are watching youtube videos doing double blind tests between tube amps and fender champion 50s and getting redpilled before they play their first chord. That fag from JHS pedals is willing to go on camera and say behringer pedals sound exactly like the real thing. Gear is over.

I tested all these teles myself because I was in the market for one and budget version simply sound and look bad. They have that nasty cheap single coil tone and the looks to accompany it.

How many hours did you practice today?
I did about an hour and a half
But I feel a lack of progress, I am not sure if I should push myself towards more difficult techniques or becoming more accurate and fast.
Thoughts?
Gabriel Fisher
Technique is pretty much 100% about accuracy and reducing unnecessary motion. Do more slow practice with a metronome. Don't do too much of the "slowly speeding up metronome" thing. It has uses, but imo you should just be sticking to a 50% or 25% tempo most of the time. Especially if you've hit a wall. If you can play accurate slowly without unnecessary motion, playing fast is easy.

Why I got a PRS:
>second guitar was a epi les Paul special 2 >loved it, sounded great, looked nice >got gudder at guitar >wanted a nice American made guitar >don’t like super strat look >don’t like the way les Pauls are weighted (to much weight near back of the body, specially when I like to sit when playing >favorite band uses PRS >love the look of them >went to guitar store and played a few >they all felt nice and played great >love the sound of the 85/15 pickups >bought myself an S2 custom 24 for about 1200 Only regret is not getting a normal model I was looking at for 2750. I could afford it, but was advised not to pretty much 1500 on American made pickups and bridge, which I agree with but it was 1500 worth more pretty tha. The one I got, not that I don’t love the look of mine

Jaxson Bennett
Lol. Like I said, I have techs around who work on Boogies all the time. This one is pretty simple too as its basically just a clone of a Marshall. Already had it apart and the whole amp is easy to work on compared to a Mark or other amp. I've seen so many guys try and talk shit about Mesa but I've only ever replaced tubes on them.

Isaiah Allen
Why do you care Even IF it's all for attention I'm still a better guitarist and perhaps singer than you
Ian Jackson
Because this is general is supposed to be for discussion of guitar and bass, not your or anyone else's platform and if you had the theory of mind to extricate yourself from your solipsistic worldview extending maybe two feet from you to see how your attentionfagging goes against the express purpose of the general then we wouldn't need to have this conversation.
Matthew Foster
Ah so it's ok to you that every single edition of this general is flooded by shitposters, baitings and memes of the lowest quality, and what really damages the thread is my music links for the reason that you know it's me?

anything past 22 starts to sound pretty janky and everything past 12 is usually janky to begin with. hence people playing fast distorted shit so you can't tell.
Benjamin Thomas
Not the guy that asked but I thought you might say that, I recently found out they played PRS. I have Blackwater Park on nearly every day, great tastes user.
They jam their chassis so tight that they're damn near impossible to work on.
Jose Davis
Get a vocal coach/lessons. It's such an internal problem with techniques and ways as there are to play an instrument.
Tyler Sanchez
You're thinking more along the lines of the Mark or Roadster amps. Not all Mesa's are as complicated as you think. Dual Rec's are pretty damn simple and so is the TC-50 and Electra-Dyne because they're literally just clones of a Marshall. This meme of Mesa's being hard to work on needs to stop because its not a Mesa problem but it comes down to each individual amp, not the actual brand. Pic related, pretty fucking simple to work on.
So, I've never played in a band before, and looking to get out there. Gonna audition next week as a guitarist. The problem is I find their material a bit dull. Should I join the first band that accepts me, that has decent people as players and are willing to practice a lot, or try to find a better band? TL:DR; how do I decide what band to join, and is there any merit in joining a below-average band if you're starting out at playing with people?
Julian Price
when did you all grow up and take the p90 pill?
Tyler Harris
Guitar technique is easy to figure out by myself I had a vocal lesson a couple weeks ago, he gave me a breathing exercise and told me to practice my lower range and higher range - with falsetto/head voice. I didn't book the second lesson because I still am not good at breathing and singing a song with proper support, and my lower range still sucks

Im gonna learn guitar, but I have slight tremors in my hands. It's hardly noticable unless I'm really nervous or anxious. Are steady hands really important when playing guitar?
Most people only have tremors in their hands when they're trying to hold still. If you don't have tremors while moving your hands you shouldn't have problems.
Lucas Kelly
You'll have natural vibrato Just try it and see if you can play
Elijah Gray
Wouldn’t worry about it. It’s presented a problem for me only on two occasions playing a song with a fast picking pattern live, nerves got the better of me. For fretting it’s unlikely to make a difference.
Angel Reed
Pretty good. You could use more breath support. Breath down into your stomach.
Nathaniel Howard
Good to hear. I'm just going to learn for fun anyway, so I really shouldnt have to worry about nerves and whatnot
Cooper Wright
What are your goals? Playing certain songs? Arranging by ear? Improvising? Composing?
Zachary Butler
Some of your vocal rhythms feel a little awkward to me. Usually the fast ones. Space out that "I know you tried to see the best in me" that's probably the most awkward one. Also I think the every day lands on a 4th beat and I think it feels weird because it's a weak beat, but a cadence. Try moving it to a 1 or 3. The picking of the small notes sounds a little out of time. Slow practice with a metronome should fix that.
Parker Evans
oh and good job, it's a nice song. I like the changes between sections. It might benefit from more dynamic range, but it depends what you're going for.
John Parker
Thanks for the feedback user. Must admit I have never played with a metronome, I know I should.
Tyler Price
Get a load of that bad amp made by a bad amp manufacturer for bad guitarists on the right there. I bet the guy who owns that isn't even pro enough to own a Gibson.

when tremolo picking do you mute the other strings or practice so you dont hit them?

Lmao okay big guy good luck with the jaw corrective surgery. You look like Chris Cornell but instead of having a functional jaw your lower lip just connects directly to your neck.
i deleted my old post because i now understand that you're looking to mute all the strings except the A and G. listen to the vocaroo above. you need to use your middle finger to mute the low E string, and your index to mute the rest. at the end of the vocaroo i pick each string twice, starting with the low E, so you can hear what they're individually supposed to sound like
let me know if this helps
Luke Anderson
Yeah it's kind of inconvenient to pull out a metronome sometimes. There's plenty of free metronome apps and programs that will do the job. imo the best way to go is to set it at 50% of the full tempo and focus on accuracy and eliminating unnecessary motion. Don't worry about it making you sound like a robot, you'll still be loosey goosey, humany wumany, but you'll have more control.
Nolan Lee
hey thanks, this is helpful
i think the issue is with my muting technique, when i hit the muted strings they still partially ring out because i tense up while im strumming really hard
Reminder that the biggest board that brings the newest users and all around traffic hates weeb incel retards like you by default. But by all.means suck 3 inch brown cock if you want.

funny because their analog guitar pedals are amazing
I own the joyo california, joyo british, and joyo american sound pedals. Each of them is an amp in a box. Makes any tube amp sound 100x better. Only about $30 each.

yea my mic is shit and it's a small practice amp, m8. my halfstack is at our rehearsal space
Anthony Sanchez
Thinking of getting this. my first tube amp. how long do you need to let an amp like this warm up before playing? what are the downsides to just turning it on and playing immediately? does it damage the amp?
Why? You’re just spending more for less of an amp.
Christian Rodriguez
Cheap tube stuff is stupid cheap right now. "Tue is too expensive" "Katana is too shit" idk why SS fags think they're beating the system when they dump $500 into a Crush.

There are a lot of hack techs, my man.
If you get certified by a company to tech, you pay them to do work. If you don't, you're no better or worse than shade tree mechanics or handymen.
Charles Myers
It's a pretty complicated questions really, but I think it basically comes down to adding a famously dissonance interval called a tri-tone (called that because it's the same distance as 3 whole tones) between the 4th and 7th notes of the scale. That's the two notes that aren't in the pentatonic. F and B in C major. The purpose is basically to add possible tension. Western music is all about creating tensions and resolving it. The problem is the tensions need to be handle with care to actually sound resolved so for inexperienced players it's easier to sound good with the pentatonic.
>downsides of playing immediately none, standbys are a myth for guitar amps
I think you can more readily pop a fuse turning it off then immediately back on with tubes still hot.
Jayden Clark
Depends what your motivations are. Are these bands offering paid gigs or all you just going to join some band and hope they catch a break? If you're not going to enjoy the music I don't see much point in it unless you just want to hang out with some other musicians.
I write songs primarily to entertain myself. I tend to write lyrics first with a vague melody in my head then work it out on guitar. Once I’m happy with it I’ll play it live at an open mic and see how it goes down.
I find just one strong line is enough to get a song started and work the verses and the chorus around that. Quite often it’ll be a sentence I’ve read in a book or overhead someone saying, for example I most recently wrote songs based around the line ‘Lay Your Brother Down’ (something that stuck in my head from the Old Testament) and around the line ‘Song of the Sirens’ (a Chekhov short story).
Thanks user. I'll try to follow this advice and see where it leads.
Isaac Bailey
the easiest thing for me is to start with a beat, then work out a bassline (doesnt have to be on an actual bass, just using the lowest strings of the guitar is fine), then adding guitar and finally vocals
realizing that its a lot easier to build on a rhythm foundation made cohesive songwriting a lot more doable for me
Ethan Baker
Tone it down brother. Sounds like a kid playing the flute while a dog has a seizure
Sure which is why you go to a tech who you trust to begin with. I don't know why you're going in circles about this, like I said I've never had major problems with Mesa amps. I've avoided the more complex models they make and even then I don't hear of hardly any problems, you're one of the 1st I've ever heard talking down Mesa in my life
Aaron White
overpriced box of bees
Cleans suck too, oh boy!
Lucas Powell
Writing it pretty difficult. There are a lot of elements that go into it. You mostly learn it by seeing what other people do and vaguely doing something similar. A good way to start practicing when you have no idea what you're doing is to set strict limitations like write a song with only 2 notes, only use the high note, only use one rhythm whatever. youtu.be/GTDvegkuqVw?t=480
Lucas Wright
Ok
Oliver Russell
No problem. To be fair everyone approaches it a different way but that’s what works for me.
Something else that works for me is picking a documentary on the television, not really listening to what it’s about but writing down any sentences that sound interesting until I have enough to put some kind of story together. It’s an unusual way, I tried it after reading about mundane sources for Dylan songs, but I think I have had some good results with this.
This song started as a collection of quotes taken from a documentary about the fatwa against Salman Rushdie, turned it into a dark folk song. youtu.be/KIg1_8a6s18

Hey guys. I'm a beginner. I have a couple of electric guitars which I enjoy playing but I've found that a lot of the easy "beginner" songs I've been playing are made for acoustic. I have a couple of really old shitty acoustic guitars sat about. I was thinking of getting rid of them both and getting a new steel string. Which of these is better?
