Fuck off your memes aren't funny and nobody likes you.

Great post, good job.

Katana

Shit in a bucket and hook up head phones to it instead.

That would sound like shit though.

I have played a combo in store before but im not really sold on it as a 350+ head
It sounds alright but I didn't love it

It doesn't shine until you hook it up to a computer and play with it.

it does DI with cab emulation for recording and you can also fuck with the effects

it's not the only SS amp to do that though, moeer makes a few that aren't combos

it definitely doesn't sound like $800

you can buy an actual all-tube amp for cheaper. much cheaper. with sound like that you might even be better off using an amp sim.

>you can buy an actual all-tube amp for cheaper
Which ones?

marshall dsl40 is $50 cheaper but it's also a combo so it's more like $300+ cheaper

>inb4 muh watts
watts are a waste of money. seriously.

No thanks, vox sounds like plasticky practice amp shit

I've been playing for a few months and guitar it's fun :D
Could any of you friends tell me what's the point of the major scale when the pentatonic just sounds so much better? Is it just to link scales together and move around the fretboard up and down?
Sorry if it's a silly question lol

Not much cheaper but the vast majority of tube combos are the same price and that's just a shitty sounding head including great shit like this

amazon.com/Peavey-Combo-Guitar-Electric-Amplifier/dp/B0049QHY1Y

if you shop around you just have to ask yourself "why the fuck would i spend all my money on a hybrid amp". it costs twice as much as other hybrid amps just because it has wannabe tubes in it.

Not sounding like bo bippity bop the blues nigga

I'm probably going to get a telecaster tomorrow

Is there any pill I should take before doing so

meth, it'll make you more country

Yeah, the invest at least 600 dollars in order to not get a piece of shit and skip the garbage player tele pill. With teles you get what you pay for.

Have you considered an ESP snapper?t

that sucks, I was probably only going to spend around 500
I haven't

>Now you see people demanding a good instrument from a guitarist even in beginner bands like it's some kind of elite club. I guess people got more aware of quality instruments because of the internet.
It's just because the guitar industry turned guitarists into capitalist /fa/ggot pigs.
At least 90% of guitarists just learn power chords, pentatonics, and a handful of tricks so they have an excuse to carry their gear around like a Louis Vitton Purse in public and hot glue them on the internet like big titty anime figures.
STFU about gear and learn to play your instrument.

Don't bother then. The pickups on budget teles are terrible and the hardware looks extremely cheap compared to ashtray bridges that aren't coated in ten layers of poly. The player series might aswell be a squier.

Nobody can tell the difference in a live show, and hell, you could play a strat behind a black curtain, say it was a telecaster, and be praised for your twang

Or play a les paul through a modelling amp with the virtual tuwang knob turned to 11

Gear doesn't matter anymore. We've reached the endpoint of gearfaggotry. There was an age of gear ignorance, and then an age of gear panic heralded by things like PRS guitars. But now people are becoming aware of how stupid it is and the guitar industry's response should tip you off here

>things that were SUPPOSED TO be bad are now playable, even great with a full setup and some fret work
>sub-$1k guitars that professional artists will hold up and say "i'd gig with this"
>cheapo digital amps and effects that sound as good as the real thing except under the ears of scrutinizing audiophiles A-Bing isolated guitar tracks (who never reach a >50% identification rate, ever)

upvote

Pretty much.

People looking into gear are watching youtube videos doing double blind tests between tube amps and fender champion 50s and getting redpilled before they play their first chord. That fag from JHS pedals is willing to go on camera and say behringer pedals sound exactly like the real thing. Gear is over.

>gearfags are dead guys rejoice!
but wait

>okay guy which mediocre guitar is nothing but what you need
>schecter C-1
>no, ibanez RG
>i like my MIM strat
>ugh fancy shit, you wasted your money, should have been made in korea
>bridges that aren't floyd roses: yay or yay?
>for me it's the tune-o-matic

I tested all these teles myself because I was in the market for one and budget version simply sound and look bad. They have that nasty cheap single coil tone and the looks to accompany it.

What's your reasonable score?

Guitar made in USA, Europe, or Japan: -3 points
Guitar is a MIJ ESP, suhr, charvel, or other exclusively "premium" marque with no true budget offerings: -5 points
Costed more than $500, +$100 allowed for each string past 6: -2 points
Brand name pickups: -2 points
If active: -1 point instead due to alternatives being less common, and then -1 point again for being active you battery buying wanker
Aftermarket hardware: -1 point for each mod
Locking tuners: -1 point
The neck and body each being one piece mattered to you: -2 points
Wood type factored into your purchase: -3 points
Set neck: -2 points
Nitro finish: -2 points, plus minus an additional point for every undesired defect the finish acquires with time

Tube preamp section: -1 point
Tube power amp section: -4 points
Is just a head, no cab: -2 points
Wattage, if over 20w, was not just desired for clean headroom: -2 points
No line out for recording: -1 point

-3 points for each pedal that costed you more than $50

ibanez gio with a boss katana mini

i am destined for greatness

*does a videogame metal cover*

*10 years pass*
*is the lead guitarist for a japanese idol group*

exactly as keikaku

What's your reasonable score?

Every hour you practiced diligently: 1 point
Every dollar you spent on gear: -1 point

ibanez gio and boss katana mini wins again

How many hours did you practice today?

I did about an hour and a half

But I feel a lack of progress, I am not sure if I should push myself towards more difficult techniques or becoming more accurate and fast.

Thoughts?

Technique is pretty much 100% about accuracy and reducing unnecessary motion.
Do more slow practice with a metronome.
Don't do too much of the "slowly speeding up metronome" thing.
It has uses, but imo you should just be sticking to a 50% or 25% tempo most of the time. Especially if you've hit a wall.
If you can play accurate slowly without unnecessary motion, playing fast is easy.

WHAT THE FUCK

I just have an acoustic guitar I got at a local store for $100

WHY DID I LEARN THIS USELESS FUCKING INSTRUMENT

SHOULD VE STUCK WITH THE GOD DAMN TRUMPET

Why does music always have to be about love stories?

going to say that nobody is interested in hearing notes played on the 29th fret

>Why did I learn a percussive polyphonic instrument
>Should have stuck with a monophonic instrument
Learn both retard. If you sold your Trumpet you can get a playable new one for a couple hundred bucks.
Use the guitar to record backing tracks for your trumpet, spruce it up in a daw and you're making art.

beyond autism

Why I got a PRS:

>second guitar was a epi les Paul special 2
>loved it, sounded great, looked nice
>got gudder at guitar
>wanted a nice American made guitar
>don’t like super strat look
>don’t like the way les Pauls are weighted (to much weight near back of the body, specially when I like to sit when playing
>favorite band uses PRS
>love the look of them
>went to guitar store and played a few
>they all felt nice and played great
>love the sound of the 85/15 pickups
>bought myself an S2 custom 24 for about 1200
Only regret is not getting a normal model I was looking at for 2750. I could afford it, but was advised not to pretty much 1500 on American made pickups and bridge, which I agree with but it was 1500 worth more pretty tha. The one I got, not that I don’t love the look of mine

Why you need to practice:

>You will make better music
Only regret you should have is not practicing right now.

22 is definitely the max that I’d want on a guitar.

Who’s your favorite band?

Are Washburns actually good? Pre-parallaxe guitars like XMPRO2 are crazy cheap but they have SDs and EMGs installed; Parallaxe 29 fret like on that pic costs 4 times as much as an older EC29 for example. What's the catch?

I'm shopping around for a decent cheap-tier Strat copy, and my local music shop is doing Tanglewood Barettas half price at ~£100. Anyone played one before/are they any good?

Good luck finding someone that will work on it.

Jimmy Page LSD Tele

I don't live in the 3rd world, lots of techs around. Never had a Mesa fail on me

You will, and a lot of techs won't touch them because they are a pain in the ass to work on.

Fuck off with your larp already. No one who actually owns good gear buys it.

OK, but remember this day

Lol. Like I said, I have techs around who work on Boogies all the time. This one is pretty simple too as its basically just a clone of a Marshall. Already had it apart and the whole amp is easy to work on compared to a Mark or other amp. I've seen so many guys try and talk shit about Mesa but I've only ever replaced tubes on them.

>This existential despair for being remembered
>A Sunday of shitpost on an internet shithole is the most that you can be remembered for

youtu.be/skc6DIxvPbg

I love Hiatus Kaiyote and Palm's voice. Her playing is pretty good too though it tends to get a little overshadowed by the rest of the arrangements. She does look kind of ridiculous, but I imagine if you're an artist with a public persona it's part of staying in that "creative" headspace

The is the discord tranny endgame

You posted it once already and nobody gave a shit.

What do you mean

Seems it worked to post again :-)

You gonna use all the feedback you got to improve? Or are you admitting you're just attentionfagging and """playing""" was only ever secondary to how many (You)s you get?

Why do you care
Even IF it's all for attention I'm still a better guitarist and perhaps singer than you

Because this is general is supposed to be for discussion of guitar and bass, not your or anyone else's platform and if you had the theory of mind to extricate yourself from your solipsistic worldview extending maybe two feet from you to see how your attentionfagging goes against the express purpose of the general then we wouldn't need to have this conversation.

Ah so it's ok to you that every single edition of this general is flooded by shitposters, baitings and memes of the lowest quality, and what really damages the thread is my music links for the reason that you know it's me?

You absolutely summed up /gg/ in this post

I'll ask here because I don't know where else to ask
What is a good book or guides I can follow for learning piano by myself

And you just avoided following the discussion. Perhaps because you can't bend yourself any more to argue back and I won?

Just look yt videos on the basics of piano technique
Then learn music theory and how to read sheet

I already play guitar; is one hour a day a good time for practicing piano?

I don't know, I don't practice piano

I wasn't the guy you were talking to

Now you are

Nu-metal bands made them cool
Strats are too mainstream
Nobody uses the middle pickup

Earlier people would play them just to stand out but now it's becoming passe

too much nose too little chin / 10

Ok

Thats How your mother likes it

10 mins is good* enough. If you practice everyday. Just practice everyday for whatever you want to do.

I practice every day and still can't sing without strain past C4 and sing loud below C3

they would be if it were intonated well instead of progressively more out of tune the higher you go

anything past 22 starts to sound pretty janky and everything past 12 is usually janky to begin with. hence people playing fast distorted shit so you can't tell.

Not the guy that asked but I thought you might say that, I recently found out they played PRS.
I have Blackwater Park on nearly every day, great tastes user.

How's intonation?
instaud.io/3Jcj

nah, he's right, there isn't a market for high pitched shrieking guitar, if you want it thoughm learn pinched harmonics like Dimebag.

I love the outro of Deliverance. I use that rhythm as a right hand exercise to this day.

They jam their chassis so tight that they're damn near impossible to work on.

Get a vocal coach/lessons. It's such an internal problem with techniques and ways as there are to play an instrument.

You're thinking more along the lines of the Mark or Roadster amps. Not all Mesa's are as complicated as you think. Dual Rec's are pretty damn simple and so is the TC-50 and Electra-Dyne because they're literally just clones of a Marshall. This meme of Mesa's being hard to work on needs to stop because its not a Mesa problem but it comes down to each individual amp, not the actual brand. Pic related, pretty fucking simple to work on.

Attached: dual-rec-guys.jpg (798x364, 67K)

So, I've never played in a band before, and looking to get out there. Gonna audition next week as a guitarist. The problem is I find their material a bit dull. Should I join the first band that accepts me, that has decent people as players and are willing to practice a lot, or try to find a better band?
TL:DR; how do I decide what band to join, and is there any merit in joining a below-average band if you're starting out at playing with people?

when did you all grow up and take the p90 pill?

Guitar technique is easy to figure out by myself
I had a vocal lesson a couple weeks ago, he gave me a breathing exercise and told me to practice my lower range and higher range - with falsetto/head voice. I didn't book the second lesson because I still am not good at breathing and singing a song with proper support, and my lower range still sucks

I took the acoustic with magnetic pickup pill

Im gonna learn guitar, but I have slight tremors in my hands. It's hardly noticable unless I'm really nervous or anxious. Are steady hands really important when playing guitar?

Attached: 1547443879672.jpg (1280x1278, 449K)

Yes

Most people only have tremors in their hands when they're trying to hold still.
If you don't have tremors while moving your hands you shouldn't have problems.

You'll have natural vibrato
Just try it and see if you can play

Wouldn’t worry about it. It’s presented a problem for me only on two occasions playing a song with a fast picking pattern live, nerves got the better of me. For fretting it’s unlikely to make a difference.

Pretty good. You could use more breath support. Breath down into your stomach.

Good to hear. I'm just going to learn for fun anyway, so I really shouldnt have to worry about nerves and whatnot

What are your goals? Playing certain songs? Arranging by ear? Improvising? Composing?

Some of your vocal rhythms feel a little awkward to me. Usually the fast ones. Space out that "I know you tried to see the best in me" that's probably the most awkward one.
Also I think the every day lands on a 4th beat and I think it feels weird because it's a weak beat, but a cadence. Try moving it to a 1 or 3.
The picking of the small notes sounds a little out of time. Slow practice with a metronome should fix that.

oh and good job, it's a nice song. I like the changes between sections.
It might benefit from more dynamic range, but it depends what you're going for.

Thanks for the feedback user. Must admit I have never played with a metronome, I know I should.

Get a load of that bad amp made by a bad amp manufacturer for bad guitarists on the right there. I bet the guy who owns that isn't even pro enough to own a Gibson.

>calling someone a dweeb on a dweeb forum

It's always amusing to see these people

when tremolo picking do you mute the other strings or practice so you dont hit them?

a song im learning calls for trem picking x5x7xx, but the dead strings make a lot of noise and sounds bad. not sure how to avoid that

vocaroo.com/i/s1TKKI0EyIRJ

i deleted my old post because i now understand that you're looking to mute all the strings except the A and G. listen to the vocaroo above. you need to use your middle finger to mute the low E string, and your index to mute the rest. at the end of the vocaroo i pick each string twice, starting with the low E, so you can hear what they're individually supposed to sound like

let me know if this helps

Yeah it's kind of inconvenient to pull out a metronome sometimes. There's plenty of free metronome apps and programs that will do the job.
imo the best way to go is to set it at 50% of the full tempo and focus on accuracy and eliminating unnecessary motion.
Don't worry about it making you sound like a robot, you'll still be loosey goosey, humany wumany, but you'll have more control.

hey thanks, this is helpful

i think the issue is with my muting technique, when i hit the muted strings they still partially ring out because i tense up while im strumming really hard

There are a lot of hack techs, my man.

If you get certified by a company to tech, you pay them to do work. If you don't, you're no better or worse than shade tree mechanics or handymen.

It's a pretty complicated questions really, but I think it basically comes down to adding a famously dissonance interval called a tri-tone (called that because it's the same distance as 3 whole tones) between the 4th and 7th notes of the scale. That's the two notes that aren't in the pentatonic. F and B in C major.
The purpose is basically to add possible tension. Western music is all about creating tensions and resolving it. The problem is the tensions need to be handle with care to actually sound resolved so for inexperienced players it's easier to sound good with the pentatonic.

Why are you trying this hard?

is GarageBanda actually good for anything?
I'm about to buy a bass or guitar and have a mac but it's not a replacement for an amp is it?

also please influence me on why i should learn guitar or bass

t.viola

I want to put together a partscaster.

I can't decide if I want to get a body from Warmoth finished in Charger Green, or if I should use Testors Lime Ice lacquer spray to do it myself.

I'd rather have a metallic finish, but I'd also rather have a professional finish.

garage band is a good piece of software

quite a few good indie albums were recorded on one

How are you supposed to write songs that actually sound good? Is there some set of rules you're supposed to follow? I have no idea what I'm doing.

>downsides of playing immediately
none, standbys are a myth for guitar amps

I think you can more readily pop a fuse turning it off then immediately back on with tubes still hot.

Depends what your motivations are. Are these bands offering paid gigs or all you just going to join some band and hope they catch a break?
If you're not going to enjoy the music I don't see much point in it unless you just want to hang out with some other musicians.

dont compare your work to others

I write songs primarily to entertain myself. I tend to write lyrics first with a vague melody in my head then work it out on guitar. Once I’m happy with it I’ll play it live at an open mic and see how it goes down.

I find just one strong line is enough to get a song started and work the verses and the chorus around that. Quite often it’ll be a sentence I’ve read in a book or overhead someone saying, for example I most recently wrote songs based around the line ‘Lay Your Brother Down’ (something that stuck in my head from the Old Testament) and around the line ‘Song of the Sirens’ (a Chekhov short story).

Why are you afraid of rests and phrasing?

youtube.com/watch?v=zbzT00Cyq-g

Thanks user. I'll try to follow this advice and see where it leads.

the easiest thing for me is to start with a beat, then work out a bassline (doesnt have to be on an actual bass, just using the lowest strings of the guitar is fine), then adding guitar and finally vocals

realizing that its a lot easier to build on a rhythm foundation made cohesive songwriting a lot more doable for me

Tone it down brother. Sounds like a kid playing the flute while a dog has a seizure

Sure which is why you go to a tech who you trust to begin with. I don't know why you're going in circles about this, like I said I've never had major problems with Mesa amps. I've avoided the more complex models they make and even then I don't hear of hardly any problems, you're one of the 1st I've ever heard talking down Mesa in my life

overpriced box of bees

Cleans suck too, oh boy!

Writing it pretty difficult. There are a lot of elements that go into it. You mostly learn it by seeing what other people do and vaguely doing something similar.
A good way to start practicing when you have no idea what you're doing is to set strict limitations like write a song with only 2 notes, only use the high note, only use one rhythm whatever. youtu.be/GTDvegkuqVw?t=480

Ok

No problem. To be fair everyone approaches it a different way but that’s what works for me.

Something else that works for me is picking a documentary on the television, not really listening to what it’s about but writing down any sentences that sound interesting until I have enough to put some kind of story together. It’s an unusual way, I tried it after reading about mundane sources for Dylan songs, but I think I have had some good results with this.

This song started as a collection of quotes taken from a documentary about the fatwa against Salman Rushdie, turned it into a dark folk song. youtu.be/KIg1_8a6s18

Sup /gg/ just came home from a band reharsal
I finally showed them one of my bedroom recordings and now we'll record the rest of the EP in my bedroom instead of the studio
I would like to record at the studio with better room and better gear but it's too much hassle not being the leader/engineer

Do I have manboobs (at this music studio)

When uploading a cover to youtube, how would you format the title?

Your band - cover song (origband cover)
Or
Original band - song (cover)

What's an acoustic guitar that you all recommend?

Budget - Yamaha
Money no object - any solid wood American made Martin

Which yamaha variant would you recommend thank you as well

Vintage Alvarez

Only get steel string if you're hardcore and want a challenge to strengthen your fretting hand otherwise a nylon string will be way easy to fret when you're just starting out

Whats wrong with your forehead?

First one? Cheap?
F335

FG800

The FG800 is a great value, dependable guitar. If you can afford more then they just get incrementally better as price goes up e.g. FG830

Unless you want to play classical or flamenco music ignore this, you’ll go through a fair bit of pain for the first month or two with a steep string but it’s worth it if you are planning on folk, rock, blues.

I got a really shitty steel string guitar and I've been using it for months and I just want to upgrade to a better guitar

youtube.com/watch?v=LRmrMDfWkNo
I cannot recommend this enough.

Hey guys. I'm a beginner. I have a couple of electric guitars which I enjoy playing but I've found that a lot of the easy "beginner" songs I've been playing are made for acoustic. I have a couple of really old shitty acoustic guitars sat about. I was thinking of getting rid of them both and getting a new steel string. Which of these is better?
Epiphone PRO-1
Fender FA-115 Dreadnought
Anything else in the same price range?

save an extra few bucks and get something that will last you well into your intermediate stage

is a pacifica 112 worth it? i've seen people say this guitar is better than some cheaper fenders.
or should i save up for a cheap fender

I'm looking at buying this really cheap deluxe strat for my brother but I don't have much experience in looking at second hand gear or telling genuine stuff for fakes. The logo is lower down on this guitar than on the other pictures I've seen is that a sign of a fake or just a random difference? Thanks boys

i wouldnt worry about it

Looks legit

I'm probably just being paranoid but it's $600 from this used place and $950 new which seems too good to be true.

That's about right. WHat year is it? Got the SN?

thats a pretty good deal, but not outrageous
be sure to plug it in to make sure everythings working

No, I'll look into it if I decide to get it though
I've got a couple more pics, seems okay I suppose but it's difficult for a layman to notice anything off

But seriously, sounds great man keep it up

It's actually pretty good, I saw her live, it's a lot of jazz based progressions and chords

Does anyone think its possible my local guitar shops or Reverb would let me sale a fake gibson flying v as long as I clarify its fake?

thanks

You’re my best friend

That shit sounds horrible, literally a DI from a pedal even sounds better.

Nice, I use two live.

do you have no friends

Not really :( I have a few but they all work too much for me to see them

Or what about if the guitar has a fake fender sticker on the headstock? Is that acceptable?

I've had one Fernandes. It was decent.

Good luck finding one for cheap

They're only $600. Assuming he means the current guitar, and not an actual 1980.

Oh i see. Yesh i assumed you meant from 1980

The non-American one (Mexico I guess?) on their website is only $600

dubs chooses the song I learn next. I'll try to get it recorded.

China. Dean doesn't have a factory in Mexico.

Fermented Offal Discharge

They make guitars in korea china and niw indonesia. Usa are the top models. Theres no mexico line.
