Sli'merre was disappointing. Pierre sounds nothing like the producer for Carti, all the beats incredibly generic other than Sunflower Seeds. Fittingly, Young Nudy is the most generic rapper I've ever heard. The personification of that bland Atlanta trap sound.

I understand your take but I feel the exact opposite. I agree that Pierre doesn't show up in the same way he does for Carti but I think that only demonstrates he knows how to produce for his collaborator. I think Nudy has a unique style and can fill space well with his rapping. Bourne does a good job as a producer by giving him exactly the right amount of room on the beats in recognition of this fact. And I do understand how at a glance Nudy might come off as generic and just another ATL derivative. I felt this way initially too. But as the album progressed it started to seem more to me that Nudy has such control over his rapping that he is able to incoporate his influences into the tracks without losing his own style.

All that being said, the album only got me more excited for new Carti.

Damn good write up and counter points. We can both agree in our excitement for new Carti. It's a shame Kid Cudi didn't make it on the album, since hearing Nudy on there was what inspired me to give the whole project a try.

i won't defend that album because it objectively sounds terrible so if you value traditionally "skilled" electronic production i can see how you would hate it but I see it as outsider music, punk in spirit, and a potent communicative artifact of rage and turmoil
