MCR was one of those bands I never gave a chance when I was the target demographic for their albums, because I thought I was too cool. But now in my 20's, I can say they made some of the most memorable radio rock of the 2000s. The Black Parade is genuinely a great album.
Also Gerard Way is one of my favorite comic writers. Umbrella Academy is more based than MCR is.

They’re better than anything else in their genre/era. Also, they’re a rock band, not emo. Great musicianship, anyone who denies that doesn’t know their music and is simply turned off by their aesthetic. Gerard’s a fantastic vocalist and really treats the gig like he’s an entertainer, playing a part, and putting his whole energy into. I think I appreciate them more now then I did back then, and I’d love to make a great fucking rock record like the Black Parade someday, probably will.

I don’t know anything about them. Now that the early 2000’s scene/emo phase is over their songwriting credit must really shine if they’re still popular.
