just sorta curious to see what you fellas think an entry level music listener would be into. not that that’s bad or anything, it cool.
What would you consider to be “entry level” tastes?
Yea Forumscore, radiohead, neutral milk hotel, death grips
death grips and most Yea Forumscore are most definitely not entry level
Yea Forumscore is the definition of entry level by Yea Forums standards. It literally exists to be a primer for newfags
you literally just exposed yourself as a newfag
Yea Forumscore is an example of how fast internet trends move, and how desirous the fetish of being unique is to Yea Forumstants. There is not a single Yea Forumscore album normie enough to play for just anyone, like a coworker or a family member or something. If they like whatever you played for them, it's because they're already familiar with enough entry level music to dive deeper.
Entry level music for me is whatever is being played on basically any FM station. Top 40, hits from yesterday, classic rock, rap charts, etc.
butthole surfers
fucking this.
whats common/popular on Yea Forums is not representitive of the rest of the world.
yeah, a lot of threads like this are just eyerolls
Newfags ahoy! Nobody on Yea Forums uses the term "entry level" to refer to what normies consider entry level. We're on Yea Forums for fucks sake. Anyone on Yea Forums is obviously talking within the context of the board and the board's culture. Yea Forumscore is called entry level because the albums are so popular and so well known in underground circles, that if you haven't listened to them, or at the very least heard of them, you most likely will not be adding anything of substance to any threads you post in.
the most alt-normie album created in the last decade is currents by tame impala, you can’t argue it’s the truth
why? what's the basis?
It’s a perfectly good album. But it’s pure urban outfitters, a way for normies to show they have some knowledge of good music. The film equivalents are pulp fiction and fight club.
Anybody have a pre-Yea Forumscore/normcore chart? I’m a massive newfag to music and I don’t want my ‘education’ to only be Yea Forums albums. I feel like the “you’ve already listened to this tier” expectation doesn’t really apply to me. The first album i’ve ever listened to all the way through is In the Airplane Over the Sea like two weeks ago.
Unironically just listen to every Beatles album (ideally in chronological order), it will give you the background you need in order to digest most popular music. The Beatles were the most influential band in pop music and in a sense, all pop and rock has been a reaction to The Beatles. People here will shit on me because they know I'm right.
After that just listen to the Yea Forumscore chart - it will make a lot more sense - and if you feel strongly about a particular album, come here and start a thread asking for recommendations (e.g. "I liked Remain in Light, what do I listen to now?").
Appreciate the help.
imo, easiest way down the rabbit hole is through genres and styles you already like. Pick one you know you already like and look at the Yea Forumscore for that specific genre. This makes the process more fun, easier to digest, and best of all you avoid becoming a genre tourist.
Alright, my favorite artist I guess would be ABBA because of my mom, if we’re not talking VGM.
Hahahahahahahahaha
>It's a perfectly good album
It is okay, you have to start somewhere. I will echo the Beatles but add Bowie (1970-1980 albums to start) and unironically Radiohead. From there look into their contemporaries. Think about what you liked or didnt like about each of their albums and use that information to branch out to other stuff.
Sounds good to me man. Thank you.
Then, in addition to what the others have told you, I'd recommend starting in the general direction of 70s and 80s pop rock. Stuff like Prince, R.E.M., Fleetwood Mac, and Steely Dan.
Did you enjoy Neutral Milk Hotel?
go back please
This. Find some artists/albums/songs that you like and find out what influenced them. You have hundreds of years of knowledge at your fingertips but don’t get overwhelmed. Find what you like and let that be your compass.
Based and beatlespilled
In The Airplane Over the Sea was a laughable first listen but it earwormed and pretty soon I listened to it 4 or 5 times and now I think I really like it a lot. I checked out their other stuff On Avery Island i’m not too hot for it’s very chaotic but Ferris Wheel on Fire was almost as good.
I’ll be sure to check them out.
