I hope you play in a jazz organ trio with that setup
Joshua Thompson
i wish i could have a MIM that was olympic white and not fucking polar
Kevin Hill
>I hope you play in a jazz organ trio with that setup I could hold my own to a point, but they'd have to come to me to jamb. The Hammond is about 350lbs and the Leslie is just plain unruly.
I have this old hughes and kettner partice amp and the clean channel seems a bit shit. since i barely used the clean channel for about a good 2 or so months i didnt notice anything was worng with it and when i did give it a try it a light distortion was on it which is unpleasant for blues and strummy pop shit. has any else heard of this happening before?
How often do people use the thumb to mute the e string? Is it an important skill to learn? Is this something i should start to practice as a beginner? I got smol hands and it's kinda hard ;_;. to me keeping the thumb in the middle of the neck feels more natural
Anthony Cox
if I'm understanding you, literally never. Just don't hit the string if you don't want to play it, but you can use the thumb to fret the E string for some chords. Having the thumb on the back of the neck is "good technique"
David Cook
oh ok like I've seen many people do that and i thought that was something you were supposed to do. I guess muting it gives you the freedom to be less accurate while strumming
Jayden Perry
Never really used it, I don't play a lot of open chords and when I do I just try to not pick the lower E when it's not needed. My thumb is always on the neck.
Gabriel Moore
I want a Telecaster man. But there are so many Telecasters Does anyone have some pointers for Telecasters that don't cost 2k$ and are still good? My budget is kind of around 850$
Andrew Carter
How can I pick strings clean? I'm often sloppy and let other strings ring on lead.
Blake Turner
nah m8, just get high school and college kids to do for "exposure". boys only ofc :]
William Ross
try gently sliding a piece of tissue paper between the strings and the first fret. it will mute most if not all unwanted string noise when doing lead work, then when u return to playing rhythm just yank it out and away you go. fuck knows how you would do it reverse but its always an option (could just modify your riffs not to use any open strings). just make sure it isnt wedged in there to tightly or else it will ruin the intonation but extra pressure on the strings.
try smashing the end of your cock with hammer until u turn into a girl
Benjamin James
those inlays made me throw up in my mouth, thanks
Henry Bailey
Favourite chord progressions?
I know it’s basic as fuck but for me it’s E, A, B7 with a few suspended variations thrown in on the E and the A. Can sing pretty much any folk song with these.
Andrew Carter
I'm kinda in the same boat. I really want to check out a tele but I don't really know if I actually need it. My plan was just to get the most expensive Squire I could afford (have around $500) but I'd have to order it online and I don't trust anything I can't play directly before buying.
I can also save a bit and get a Fujigen J-standard Iliad from a local shop, it's like $800 and it plays like a dream, real pretty too. But I never had a tele and I don't know if I want to commit to it like that. Maybe I should get an Affinity and call it a day.
50s Classic Laquer Tele is the closest you can get to an AVRI without spending $1500+. They're basically identical except for the thicker neck shape.
Ryan Cooper
pick cleanly? you mean you miss the string and pick the adjacent ones? that can be only solved with practice. if you mean you pick a string and others ring out, try using the very tips of your fingers of your fretting hand to mute the adjacent strings. if they're not adjacent try using your picking hand but I don't recommend that, you don't want to fix your picking hand to one place. also don't let your fingers off a string immediately after you stop playing the note, just release the pressure off of it so it's not fretted but keep touching the string. also if you have a floating bridge that might cause other strings to vibrate sympathetically, so fix the bridge or dampen it with something.
Check out Reverend. They make some nice tele styles.

t. tastelet look at the headstock, it's like a cancerous growth that needs excising.
Wyatt Morris
I've had a Deluxe Roadhouse for exactly 10 years, it's a good guitar, even though I'm speaking about the older model, I don't really know about the newer one. The neck pickup is fucking sweet, too. I'd advise you to get this one if you're into blues rock.
Can anyone help me find out the intro of this song? I must be fucking stupid because I can't figure out this simple stuff even though I'm beating around the bush. Chords for the whole song seem to be D, A, G. youtube.com/watch?v=UIIgm6NvkVA
EMGs have the best cleans. This is a fact. The SA and 58 were originally intended for jazz players. They have a shitload of frequency response and dynamic range to begin with, and their new preamp just gives them more.
And then you turn the gain up and it all disappears. Now you sound like metallica. Good going.
Brandon Martinez
There is literally a song about how good it sounds
Build quality, materials quality, how "fine" the quality control filter is, etc
With a cheap guitar you'll get wobbly tuners, soft fret material, visible defects in the wood grain, obvious multi-piece bodies, thick coats of paint, thin low quality veneers or photo-flame, and pickups wound with wire that isn't anywhere near being pure copper. The more you spend the less of that shit you get.

$200 is two days of low skill first world labor.
If you're buying a retail product then it either costs the manufacturer that much more to make the product, source the materials, or get the product to a shelf. Or maybe guitards are willing to pay the extra for nothing.
Alexander Richardson
Tfw your $500 korean gutiar scores on this

They're both RG's, the G just stands for Gio as in cheap shit dumb fuck parents who don't play buy for their 9 year old for christmas.
Gabriel Nguyen

RG is a model. Gio is a series.

H-h-h-honest opinion on me as a folk guitarist/singer lads? Where do I rank on the "talentless dickhead who always gets his guitar out at parties when no one wants him to" to "not bad, could probably do a bit of busking" scale?
Go out and play, there's only one way to cut your teeth.
Hunter Harris
Of course, if it wasn't similar to something else they wouldn't mass produce it.
Japanese are risk averse businessman on the level of an established American company (that may never do anything new, ever, for fear of losing their brand image) except they follow the inverse pattern. Americans start their businesses doing their own thing and stagnate. Japs start off making cheap clones for guaranteed profits and then slowly start to open up and be creative.
Josiah Campbell
do not refinish a guitar unless you are sanding it down to bare wood. excessive layers of finish will make the guitar resonate less and change how the wood dampens the vibrations of the strings. it's generally accepted that you want as little paint as possible for the most sustain and a fuller sound, and that a porous finish like nitro is preferred because it allows the wood to age sometime within your lifetime if it wasn't properly dried to begin with.
what a string is suspended between will change the way it vibrates, it's a fact of physics.
Jonathan Fisher
You really need to learn another picking pattern. Girl From the North Country is a nice one.
Jackson Campbell
snake oil
Charles Robinson
Nice, thanks.
Well I haven't really seen this one around so I have no idea what it's based on. As far as japanese guitars go they do like to make some weird shapes for their internal market, just look at Fernandes models.
the difference is small but real and anyone who says otherwise is tone deaf, using too much distortion and playing like shit, or a poorfag who is mad that money can buy you a slightly nicer guitar
again it's physics. if you want to test the most obvious version of this principle try suspending a string between two chunks of pine and two chunks of plastic with identical tension and plucking it. i'd go as far as saying that fret, nut, and bridge material and attachment have a dramatic and underrated effect on a guitar's tone.
Alexander Parker
>He thinks tonewood doesn't matter >He can't afford an all mahohany Gibson Les Paul with a nitro finish
It only applies to acoustic and (kind of) hollow electrics. Semi and solids it makes no difference.
Christian Nguyen
it makes a difference but your tone is so distorted that you can't hear it
wood curing is more important than which species of tree by the way
Ethan Powell
Thanks la
Yeah I realised that myself a little while ago, do know a few others but they're all more basic then that one so I have a tendency to (over)use it for all songs. Thanks for the tip with Girl from the North Country, I'll check it out
Tyler Price
>wood curing is more important than which species of tree by the way I agree, but that's a different discussion.
True, I just maxed gain and didn't even bother setting other knobs since I have a shitty amp, not so good guitar and no pedals, all recorded with a phone. I was asking about the composition Thanks
mate the whole point is that the stuff your strings are vibrating between matters and soaking it in shitty paint is going to change how it dampens vibrations and further arrest the aging process
just listen to us boomers and get a good guitar made of one good piece of wood with lacquer instead of urethane and hold onto it for ten years instead of buying a new one every ten months. if you're afraid of breaking it get a fender so you can replace the neck. you'll sound better for a variety of reasons.
Levi Cooper
no
Jose Myers
It does matter...on acoustics. The only reason Nitro still exists on electrics is because it checks and gives a vintage look.
Carter Hall
Why not
Aaron Edwards
it matters on everything
Angel Rodriguez
Well, you're entitled to believe that.
Justin Foster
mahogany is awesome but like a dense sponge. That's why gibby mad chambers theirs and kinda why boomers get hung up on lp weight.
you're entitled to mediocre tone and a collection of ibanezes

Is it true that cheap Bass guitars are just as good as expensive ones?
I just bought a guitar and now I also want a bass. Any recommendations? $300 budget.
Henry Johnson
I have neither
Nolan Butler
Actual Nitro coat (not that Fender dip everything in poly and do a light brushing of nitro on top shit) also chips like a motherfucker if you ding it even just slightly.
Gabriel Miller
As long as it sounds good... But humbuckers on a simil-strato are horrible anyway
Blake Powell
He couldn't even get it to produce sound with his soldering skills.
Matthew Nguyen
Doesn't it spiderweb like a car window in the cold?
Bentley Perez
Is there anything I can do with this piece of shit? lol
Nah. Chips off leaving the mahogany block exposed. Over really really long time, it will spider up due to temperature changes, but you keep your instruments in cases to avoid shit like that. That's why Fender dips their shit in thick poly and just dusts it with nitro, to get that cracking shit that real nitro only gets if you mistreat it.
There might be a slight noticeable delay in playing, if you're not using a decent interface. Your setup sucks, sounding as good as a guitar through an amp will cost you more It's easier to carry around and setup an amp, a cab and some pedals. Probably cheaper than an axefx or a kemper, too. You might feel that analog gear reacts differently
Jaxon Bailey
What do you want to play?
Kevin Turner
not at all with the money i spend in 1 Standard i can buy 3 tributes easily

The best neck pickup is a standard Strat single coil for glassy, chimey goodness. This is the GOAT tone; the "Wind Cries Mary" tone.
Landon Murphy
Because it's different for every fucking guitar
Two identically sized cuts of wood from the same tree won't always weigh the same even if you have the most consistent aging process known to man and the larger the cut the more likely they are to be different
Cameron Price
Does anyone have a clue what company and model this is?
Old Jap brand. Probably Teisco as they made most of those under different brands. As far as model, no clue.

You'll never tour so you'll be ok.
Also, never tour with less than 3 guitars.
Kayden Powell
MIM fender, PRS SE, schecter korea, fucking all of ibanez, etc were basically made for that purpose
Nice enough to play, not too nice to get dinged. Also the multi-piece necks make them easy to take care of. Truss rod? Set and forget. One piece necks, especially cheaper ones, are wet noodles compared to those.
Jose Moore
wtf man but I am in a couple weeks I was planning on taking my nice one and the shitty one as backup Hooboy I'm not prepared for this, huh
Jonathan Gonzalez
No, you're not. How long are you going out for?
Adrian Harris
No one cares. Why are you avting like its your band? Hes not your drummer.
Wyatt Fisher
just a week and a half
Xavier Morales
MIM fender is nothing but cheap one piece necks
i hope none of those are gibsons
stop by a pawn shop and grab a cheap "every genre" guitar like a generic metal HH superstrat with coil splits. you're going to need it when the other two get snapped in half.
Luke Watson
>Not having one guitar and three necks
Do you even bolt on
Who the fuck breaks a guitar body anyways
Dominic Barnes
That's not a tour, that's a roadtrip.

If he was in my band he would be playing with the band, not by himself. Are you always this depressed? It must suck to be like that.
Camden Morales
And if you break a string mid set?
Anthony Price
bro why you gotta neg me, 10 cities is a big deal when you've never done it before. It's not like anybody starts huge
Alexander Cook
You're doing 10 cities in a week and a half?
Samuel Gomez
I mean isn't that the point of touring, go from city to city each day?
Thomas Bennett
Get out of my thread negative creep and shoot yourself in the head
Charles Murphy
not that person, but 10 days 10 cities seems doable if also a bit busy
Ethan Clark
Yeah, but are you in a band that people are going to pay to see on a Tuesday?
No, it's totally doable. He's going to be tired at the end though.
David Anderson
>Yeah, but are you in a band that people are going to pay to see on a Tuesday? Probably not really. We send out merch to other states and have fans asking us to visit their area every now and then, but not enough for any real pull. Fully expecting to play mostly empty shows on weekdays, hopefully some local scenes have a bit of oomph to keep a few people around to check us out. I've done the same thing in my town for newer tourers when my band was new and opening, they don't have many people there by the end of the night usually Gotta start somewhere
Adrian Miller
Why would anyone tour anymore when the internet exists?
Sebastian Martin
If you play more than 5 shows over the course of a week, in different cities, most people would call that a tour. Let user have it. Playing other cities is awesome
James Baker
Money. You fucking jackass. Did you even think about it before you typed away like an idiot?
Josiah Fisher
Why would anyone have a band anymore when GarageBand exists? Why would anyone play instruments anymore when virtual reality exists and you can live in there forever?
Lincoln Stewart
That's cool though. I can respect that. Where are you hitting?

i like how spotify made this entire video throwing shit at apple for not "playing fair" and throughout the entire video they only mentioned fairness towards consumers and companies over and over again. Not once did they speak about fairness towards artists. I don't use apple devices and I'm not a fan of the company but if you ask artists on reddit AMA's where to buy their music digitally to ensure they'll get the highest cut possible they often respond apple music.
Gavin James
Oh, I get it. So they want to lose money paying for gas to drive around and play weeknights in venues that will only pay headliners. Then they can break even selling merch at cost or simply giving it away to suburban kids. Maybe their equipment can get stolen while they watch another band.
Either this, or a band can act like entitled little shits when they have no draw and expect to take the promoters cut. They may even trash the venue because gas and beer money are good enough.
Promoting and selling your crap online for free really doesn't make any sense desu senpai
now you're getting it

don't do things known to break strings, don't use student gauges that tend to break, and make sure your guitar body has a bridge that doesn't constantly break strings
Jacob Perry
Thinner strings don't break more often than thicker strings, since they require less tension to be tuned to the same note. Strings will break very rarely on an adequately lubricated guitar, no matter the gauge.
Elijah Hughes
Burrs will wear through them faster which is why they usually snap in the first place
Jayden Sullivan
Get a squier contemporary tele off sweetwater already setup for 350. Test the intonation and action and see if it need a setup. At most you be in 350-400 after a possible setup. Or a squier standard tele for 250.

I may not play guitar anymore but I have a cute and loving cat
My strings usually break over a fret. On the acoustic, at least. On electrics it's mostly on the bridge.
Chase Robinson
But you (assuming you're the person I originally posed the question to and not someone that just butted in) didn't say that. You said one body and 3 necks.
Jack Sanchez
yeah, in case your guitar gets knocked over. you won't break a string unless your guitar is shit and you're a retard.
in 10 years of playing, plus my dad's 40 years of playing, neither of us have ever broken a string on our own guitars.

Single coil bridges are too twangy Humbucker necks are too fat And there's nothing that competes with the single coil middle sound or the pseudo-humbucker tones of positions 2 and 4 on a strat. So, the guitar should be HSS with coil splitting for the bridge enabled one click up with the bridge and middle blended. AND, strat pot wiring is fucktarded, No tone for the bridge? Really? I'd rather have a master volume and master tone or three concentric pots for volume and tone on each pickup.
If only there were some sort of "good-er strat" that solved these problems!
