is it really that bad? been hyped for it all month n bought tickets to the show later this year, i refuse to believe its not good

Yellow Belly is the worst track Flylo has ever made by far and is it just me or does the album have absolutely no flow ?

Is this his "amalgam of all his past works" album? I hate those.

That's my number 1 criticism, it has no cohesion or flow. Feels like a literal dump of random ideas and sketches.

Pilgrim Side Eye is the worst noise I've heard this year.

Not a fan at all of the mild 'video game' musical aesthetic that pervades the album.

He fell off hard. Sucks because so much time has passed and I really wanna like this thing but its meh..

second half shows some promise at least

That movie really set him back I think, on a creative and financial note.

>That movie
that fucking movie

Not a criticism but I'm disappointed that he's seemingly dropped Captain Murphy, was really expecting an appearance from him on this record.

Soundtrack album nowhere to be found either. What a fucking mess.

seems almost like he got fucked by a bad trip or something

What went wrong with the movie?

Its production couldn't have been THAT bad, right?

I think there are some good tracks sprinkled in between, I really liked Heroes for Instance.

He put tons of his own cash into it, only for it to make no money or even any kind of cultural splash like he may have naively expected it to have done. Sat without distribution for months until he sold it to that new streaming site Shudder for what I assume was a low price. Made a few off-handed comments about the whole process, didn't seem too happy.

so anybody know what the situation with him and gaslamp killer?

How is the movie ?

bump

Listening now. Have been fucking with it so far but looks like no one else does.

Weak release?

Literally unwatchable

Is it so gross or is it just bad ?

The reaction here is incredibly negative compared to what else I've been seeing. My first few listens were meh but it's grown a lot on me, hope it does for you guys too

The reaction on Yea Forums is always incredibly negative but on other sites (youtube, twitter, reddit etc.) it's way to positive so I go here to kind of get the middleground.

I mean there really isn't that huge of a discussion here, maybe when more people have listened to it we'll get a more positive reaction.

chkd

Is this intentional?

I don't think so, would be kind of random.

this is fucking great you guys are just plebs

sup Steven

worst track? my vote goes to yellow belly or burning down the house

Just gross, structureless nonsense. I have no doubt that it absolutely appeals to some sense of humour/sensibilities but it's not really a great film by any metric. What's most surprising though, and I feel FlyLo feels the same way, is that the film didn't even really attract a devoted cult/midnight movie audience. It sort of just exists.

I think Burning down the House is miles better than yellow belly.

It's mostly an anger fuelled by disappointment. It's certainly not a terrible album but it also fails to excite or interest me at all seeing as it took 5 years to come out.

there's been a few discussions since last friday when the album leaked and the reactions weren't any different

Is it really that bad? Im lowkey a FlyLo stan and dont think he has made a bad record by any means so dont take my opinion as gospel, but I'm at More right now and I'm liking it a lot

I love Flylo but this one just didn't do it for me. There's some good material in second half tho

the problems also stems from the fact that there's no concept/journey his albums are (usually) built around so it just sort of moves from one piece to another and it doesn't help its like one hour long

fuckin morons, you are hating the best tracks on the album, it fucking have tits on it's face!!! you really don't get it. flylo has represented a magical fire so well. so well you can't see more than the surface of it. it's sparkles bitches

Literally the point at which the album then turns bad.

I love his production style mostly. But man, Burning down the house could have been a fine instrumental track. The point about the length is also valid. None of his albums are this long.

Wonder whether we'll get more Los Angeles type stuff? Because that album is godly imo

So You're Dead wasn't just branching out, he's going all in on jazz fusion. Can't say I'm not disappointed. There's already a million brilliant fusion records and this post-TPaB revival stuff is already cliche (can't count how many times I've seen Herbie's name the last few years). I wish he'd go another direction even back to his bloopy stuff like Cosmogramma.

This album just sounds like a bunch of electrical infetterence

>tfw we will never return to the divine orchestral bleep realm that was Cosmogramma

Ok Yellow Belly is...interesting. Why did he feel like he needs to add random features? The tracks sound good with no voice. Lets hope he does not waste Denzel.

kinda early but i like better than You're Dead
the Tierra Whack track is good. why is everybody hating?

FF4 is literally lofi hip hop radio - beats to relax/study to

Flylo was a major influence on TPAB though

I know that. The point is since TPaB jazz fusion has become very popular again and FlyLo who once was one of the most interesting artists on the planet (imo) is now just another fusion revival artist and that's disappointing.

Vocals just sound.. off for some reason. Listening to this is like drinking milk on expiry date - it's alright and usable (listenable), but tastes funny in a bad way.

Exactly what I was thinking, there's no real theme or coherence to the album.

Cosmogramma had a theme?
I know UTQC and You're Dead are about death

I am more talking about a kind of feeling

and this album doesn't? the fire motif has pretty clear meaning. sorry the album isnt shouting "youre dead!!!!!!!" every 10 seconds

based

>and this album doesn't?

yeah it's dumpster fire

Basically an anthology movie of I think four little gross out vignettes that feel like rejected adult swim pilots. Like mighty boosh mixed with aqua teen in a bad way

Well there are endless possibilites of displaying a fire motif in music, the album doesn't really build a consistent atmosphere around it.

loving the Toro y Moi collab

The Mac Miller track is cathartic
rip Mac

im digging it so far, it doesnt have many immediate bangers like cosmogramma, UTQC, YD! etc but i like the atmosphere and the general compositional theming. gonna take a lot of listens to really enjoy it to its fullest

Listened once last night. It’s alright but I really don’t think it touches his best work. There really isn’t an atmosphere to it at all, definitely quite a bit of filler, and a lot of the shorter tracks are cool but kind of pass by making no real impact. There isn’t a song as good as, like, do the astral plane on this album, not even close. It doesn’t reach the highs of his previous work and has more frequent and lower lows. Kind of a disappointing release imo but it’s by no means a bad album. If you were expecting a classic after 5 years then yeah you’ll either be disappointed or desperately listen to it repeatedly for something that really isn’t there

Heroes sounds like watered down flylo, more is extremely him for a flylo production but still enjoyable, capillaries is literally unfinished, burning down the house is ruined by an old George Clinton singing off key and off beat. Spontaneous is a good instrumental that needs to be fleshed out ruined by little dragon. Takashi, while dull, is the most fleshed out track on the album. Pilgrim side eye is him trying to make a computer face 2, only it stays short of working and has no idea where to go, so it just reverses the drums and stops a bar later. All spies sounds like flylo just discovered FL studio. Yellow belly is a god awful dead man's Tetris 2 that complements it with a horrible feature. How could flylo release this. It sounds like he's making fun of himself. Fire is coming should've been scrapped. The only thing redeeming about it is the 808's at the end. Inside your home would be cooler IF IT WAS LONGER AND MIRE FLESHED OUT THAN A MINUTE. Goes for Andromeda too. The Shabazz feature is wasted on a shaking cup sound effect. Say something is a pointless track that should've been scrapped. Pygmy flylo forgets how to program drums. 9 carrots is so horribly mixed it is ear grating. FF4 is talentless lofi hiphop garbage. Land of honey is another thin flylo production. Last track he didn't even bother to develop it so just put a lot of reverb on it to stretch it to 4 minutes.

Thin*, not him.

Agreed, blew the doors off Chaz’ whole last album IMO (and was a top 5 on this album). If you told high school me in 2012 that Flying Lotus and TyM would collab I’d have nutted myself but now they have both come so far from their heydays...

I haven't listened to flylo in years but wtf is this shit?

Is this song just too high IQ for me or something? I find the beat and the feature completely obnoxious.

What makes it better than You're Dead? This album is lacking in everything you're dead did great at, structure, underlying theme, well-placed features and all that other shit

holy shit this tierra whack feature is terrible, though I audibly kek'd at
>TIDDIES IN HIS FACE
>HES GOT TIDDIES IN HIS FACE
