It's such a tragedy that Bruce Johnston stayed with the Mike Love camp when the band pretty much split in half. He was one of the most promising creative forces in their post-Smile period, and then he just sold out completely just to be Mike's sideman while they play Surfin' USA to a room full of grandmas.
