What's their fucking appeal?
What's their fucking appeal?
They sound good?
Nope, that can't be it.
incredible atmosphere, rhythm and intensity. poetic lyrics sang in beautiful harrowing baritone. come back again later when you're ready for more advanced listening you disgusting philistine
>joy division
>advanced listening
HOLY FUCKING SHIT this was good bait
*more advanced listening. its actually kind of sad you can't into joy division yet. sorry bub
I mean, I can somewhat dig what the instruments are doing (the dark atmosphere and all), but the song renders unlistenable once Ian's vocals start. It fuckings destroys everything.
one day you'll realize his voice is actually incredible and one of the highlights of their music as a whole
A distinctive sickly pale singer who moves and sings weird. Simple melodies with atmospheric production. Early death.
>poetic lyrics sang in beautiful harrowing baritone.
Ian Brown has one of the worst singing voices in Rock and Roll history. Joy Division only gets showered with undeserved praise because he necked himself.
There is none.
>Ian Brown
Oh shit I meant Curtis, haha
Well I really do hope so. It bothers me beyond belief the fact that I can't enjoy music that's held is such high regards by most music enthusiasts and review pages.
While I disagree with you because Ian and Joy Division are incredible, I understand your beef because he's off key on every single song. I didn't hear it at first but one time I tried to put on the album and I couldn't finish it. Now I'm back to loving it but you have to tune your ear to his voice
they are only famous because their faggot singer comitted suicide
>he's off key on every single song
based, wish more singers did this
Catchy riffs/hooks. No one in their right mind listens to the full albums, it's all about the hits.
>Joy Division
>Advanced listening
UP is such an accessible classic that it's a t shirt record. It's amazing but it's hardly advanced listening. Closer is much more advanced, sonically. They really expanded their sound on that record
Exactly, like David Byrne said "the better a singer is, the harder it is to believe what they're singing".
Everyone knows off key singing is better, Sonic Youth for example
Singing off key is Manchester tradition. Curtis, Gallagher, Ryder, Brown, Smith.
> Deborah Curtis, widow of Joy Division singer Ian Curtis, recalled that he not only voted for Thatcher’s party himself in ’79 but insisted that she do so, too, since he wasn’t about to let his wife “cancel out” his vote. The tale is told in her memoir
based and ironlady pilled. if curtis was alive today he'd probably be getting canceled just like morrisey
id like to clarify that i said "more advanced listening" implying something that the average listener might not be able to appreciate but is still objectively good for people with a little experience under their belt. obviously there is much more "advanced" listening out there
Are you joking or is that actually a deliberate thing in Manchester
I somewhat agree. I love Ian Brown, David Byrne and Neil Young and none of them are what you would call skilled singers. But Ian Curtis just sets me off
Oh well then that's actually the perfect way to describe them.
It's not only off key, he's mumbles a lot and ends up being incoherent half of the time. You shouldn't have to "tune your ear" to enjoy music, that's completely backwards.
music lessons are for posh cunts
>MUSIC IS WHAT I SAY IT IS!!!
I think it sounds great, you're backwards
It's been nice to have a proper debate on Yea Forums for once
