I've been hearing a lot on many different forums about rubbing my own kaka all over my guitar. Seems like it doesn't matter if it's a fender or a dean, if you rub your own farty shit all over your guitar, it will make you play faster.

I fart a loggy piece of ass-cake out of my hair-covered asshole every week and rub it on my fretboard and smush it into the pickups. Once a week is probably overkill, but i've got more kaka where that came from.

I've had this kinda problem since I was about 5 desu. I used to play Cello and sax and a couple others and I fucking detested them all for 13 years because I was worried everyone would think I was a faggot for playing cello etc.

I thought it was a good choice to start playing guitar a few years ago but eventually I realised I was still worried everyone thought guitar was a faggot instrument. I don't even think I ever let anyone know i played the thing, or hear me, till about a year ago.

And yeah now i'm playing in bands where I have to take responsibility for writing shit, not just playing it, and its a whole breathe take of cringey feelings.

Depends,

There are 3 sort of main factors to a guitar

Tone (Pickups)
Play-ability (Ie are you comfortable)
Reliability (how well does it stay in tune etc)

You can have any tone you want by just swapping out your pick ups

Playability will usually come down to personal preference but its one of the reason why 60s fenders are so expensive; they tend to be really fucking comfortable to play.

If you've spent years on that cheapo guitar, truth is you really love the neck, and it feels good to play. And the only way you'll find a more comfortable guitar is buy spending ALOT of money on a top end strat.

Reliability is usually the worst factor on a cheapo, and its the thing you can do least about. You can have it set up and refretted, but you'll need maintenance more often. The parts used in cheap guitars aren't so reliable, hence being cheap.

Well being specific to strats, I'm thinking particularly about the neck wood again. The wood in cheaper necks will bow alot quicker under a set of strings than on a fender neck. Add this to being more sensitive to temperature and you have a neck that needs to be intonated + have the truss rod adjusted alot.

That being said, I still stick with the $150 korean strat i got when i started playing. Stuck some SSL1s in it, get it set up every so often. The only strats I feel better playing on are either real 60s or custom shop 60s.

deluxe/twin reverb, what the fuck else would you buy

I've tried alot of twin reverbs and I just can't get them to sit right with the major for some reason. If i can't find a tone master I think i might start looking at showmans from the late 60s.

Alternatively the tremolux is a beautiful amp but I don't want to be responsible for a second amp worth over £3000.

Okay for real. Our standard concept of music is built on stacking thirds. A regular triad is 1 3 5, the 3 is a third from the 1, the 5 is third from the 3. Continuing with the extensions, add the 7, 9, 11, 13

It's just stacking 3rds. You can sharp or flat stuff where you want to make it spicier

Technically a maj13 chord has the 1 3 5 7 9 11 and 13, all of them. But you can omit some of the extensions as long as you have the major defining sounds of the chord, which you kind of have to do on guitar all the time since we only have four fretting fingers and six strings. If you're playing in a band the bass will get the one, and the most important intervals for the guitarist to include is the 3 and the top extension, jam in the other ones where you can, but the rest can skidaddle if you don't want 'em. Especially the 5. Nobody needs that bitch

I am still a novice guitar player but I really want to learn to improvise so I can actually just play the guitar to backing tracks. Is this something I can start learning now without already having a solid knowledge of music theory? What skills help with being able to solo and improvise over music?

Seems dumb, but practice singing and coming up with your own melodies.
Guitar should just be an extension of the music you hear in your head, and your voice is an immediate physical connection to that that doesn't need interpreting through fingers

Then learn major/minor and pentatonic scales and noodle around to backing tracks, you don't really need any real skill to start doing that. The voice thing will just help you create intentional melodies through the guitar quicker rather than picking scale notes at random

That full frequency response range should be great for modern mixing too. I remember John Mayer saying that direct inject recordings are more useful in modern mixing scenarios than mic'd recordings because the cabinets that are being mic'd cut off so many low and high frequencies.

passives are made to give you a decent tone out of the box straight into an amp that only has one knob (gain)

"Icepickiness" comes from 2-3 kHz response. Your ear naturally boosts this response because your ear's quarter wavelength resonance is in that frequency area.
Your typical single coil pickup will have a large peak in that area.
A flat frequency response pickup will be less "icepicky" than a typical single coil pickup.

How will I ever start making songs and melodies?
I can make individual short guitar parts but can't make the rest of the song around them.
The only "melodies" I can come up with in my head are unoriginal safe scales over the same fifths progressions. Maybe it helps when I'm holding a guitar and can play chords and visualize melodies but when I get home and can grab a guitar I'm too damn tired and depressed like a soulless slave and just want to shitpost and eat fastfood
