This was the album where they attempted to break from the mold and attempt some sort of experimentation, rather than just cater to their demographic (as on Vs)

Same. Vs. is Pearl Jam's great record, similar to Nirvana and In Utero. Both Ten and Nevermind have their charm but were more of a right time/right place phenomenon. I'm still impressed that both bands went back into the studio and topped their huge records.
