The problem with actives is people expect them to be pre-EQ'd like passives which are made to give you a specific tone and that's it. Actives try to be as flat as possible so you can use your own EQ but usually end up heavy on the mids.
And then how poor the rest of your signal chain is starts to shine since your pickups are totally neutral/dead and just deliver exactly what the guitar sounds like. You can put fancy passives in a squire and it will sound great but most actives sound as much like the guitar as a pickup can, which means a lot of guitars will sound pretty bad without tone sculpting. As it turns out an electric guitar is not a sonically interesting instrument. It's a solid plank of wood with paint on it.

Literally any lunchbox tube amp. Orange, Blackstar, Egnater... I used to use an Egnater Rebel 20 which has a wattage attenuator that you can set as low as 1 watt and I jammed that shit in my apartment all the time without bothering my neighbors.
I'm not sure if tube amps will work as well as solid state amps at low volume levels. Having an attenuator sure would make them feasible, but I'm not sure if it makes sense to get a tube amp for just my bedroom.

get a zendrive. essentially an imitation of "that" dumble sound (depending on what dumble you're talking about, since there were a few models), but its great if you're looking for a buttery, crispy, phat overdrive

like I said, there are many different models of the amp and no consistent 'dumble' sound. The standard zendrive emulates that particular waspy character, but the zendrive gold is a much richer and slightly more driven tone (this is the one I have), while the red is basically the same but with much higher gain.
