The Archandroid is a modern classic. I haven't been really impressed by her other works, though.

Johnny Cash isn't overrated but he's not good enough to be the primary country artist it's socially acceptable for non-country fans to like imo.

Fuck you, Nobody really even thinks about the Police. They get no threads here or anywhere. All anyone really says is they made five good albums or the plebs say they’re a singles band. Their material is as strong as the best Talking Heads, Smiths, Clash and Cure albums and yet they’re never talked about here compared to their new wave contemporaries.

That's only true of Dirty Computer which is kinda mediocre. The rest of her discography is amazing. Metropolis Suite I, The Archandroid and Electric Lady are all 9/10.

Dirty Computer overrated? Absolutely. Janelle overrated? Negro, I saw her in a not particularly big house of blues a year ago. All my friends are libs and only like two of em are into her.

She sold out hard. Shit like The Arch Android was great. Great first album. She wasn’t getting any mainstream play off of that.

I remember The Arch Android coming out and being lauded critically, but irl no one had heard of her.

Now she’s jumping out playing the sexuality shit because it’s cool to do now, so she just hopped aboard the train. Shit 2010 feels like a different time.

I got caught up in the Acid Rap hype but now I don’t get the big deal. Plus his persona is phony.

This is pretty much off of Redbone. I don’t get how some song that just rips Bootsy Collins, to the point I wouldn’t even call that a sample, gets so popular. It’s boring, and most of his music is boring.

J Cole
He’s a good rapper as far as skill goes, but a boring repetitive lyricist who sells the same subject matter over and over again. He raps common sense and that’s not bad, but he’s not saying anything better “conscious” rappers haven’t already said or delivered in more interesting. ways

A self-made black woman whose intellectual ambition anchors woke-while-the-world-slept politics and whose moves and style enrapture a majority-female international fanbase, Monáe has long been everything you'd want in a musical savior except a compelling musician. Her mentor Prince was so smitten that on his final album he tried to turn into her. But Monáe's voice has always been too thin and her songwriting too intellectual--until now, when she makes a pass at turning into Prince and gets close. Tracks five-six-seven--"Screwed" with its "You fucked the world up now / We'll fuck it all back down" brag, the raspy-rapped autobio "Django Jane," and the folds-of-your-vagina-to-folds-of-your-brain "Pynk"--are a "1999" for 2018 with lyrics that don't stop don't stop, the apex of an album that's designed to have one. Finally Monáe drops the "android" mask, for me a relief, and comes out as a woman-loving woman, for me no surprise insofar as I'd thought about it at all. But she calls herself "pansexual" as opposed to "gay" or "bi" because she wants it all. Too often prosex albums are shallow. While remaining intellectual, this one is more personal than the android dared. A-
