both Piece of Time and Unquestionable Presence are amazing jazzy tech death metal (especially for its time, since PoT was already recorded and finished by 1989), pretty fucking wacky and spastic schizo metal. Elements is kinda gay since they went full blown prog and jazzy, most of the vocals are clean-ish and the og drummer was replaced by a session one. Still, some songs are quite good (mainly Air). Their reunion album is trash so don't bother.

I've always sided Varg. I never respected Euronymous even in my edgy teen years. As adult I support Varg even more about killing Euronymous first. Belus and Fallen are pretty good albums, and wouldn't exist, if Euronymous had raped Varg before he killed him.

Their current stuff is still fucking good even though it's not black metal. Good riffs and creative and still metal as fuck blend of genres. We've had plenty of good pure black metal albums from Darkthrone, so I don't have any problem with new ones. Already pre-ordered Old Star. There is always a form of honor in the most pit. My gf always thought, that it's about hurting each other there, but it really isn't. Even if you might get hurt, it's not the actual point of it.

mathcore is usually great, although not metal.
prog metal is much more hit or miss for me. dejtn sucks big balls.

Varg sure is a psychopath. But he is not that kind of pathetic psychopath, who goes around raping and killing women and children. He just killed one (horrible) person in act of "pre-self-defense". He wouldn't murder you out of enjoyment. The murder does not undo the fact, that he is an intelligent person with good ideas. Not to mention, he made some really good music. The people are not black and white. It would be childish to think so. You can respect the good qualities of a person, even though the person did some "bad things".

It's a good one but i prefer Nagrö Läuxes VIII, and all the stuff they did between Nagrö and Excrements.
Btw Are You Excrements? got reissued on vinyl for the first time couple of years ago, it was also re-mixed and re-recorded in some parts for that release.
There is nothing else like C.S.S.O. though.

The burst beat is more true to life than the blast beat, more like systems in nature, in two ways. First, the tempo accelerates and decelerates; it expands and contracts, like breathing, or the economy, etc. Secondly, it abruptly crosses thresholds between different modes. Just as water goes from ice to liquid to gas, or a horse goes from walk to trot to canter – the burst beat transitions freely between different kinds of blast/grind beats with different tempos.

I've just given Returner a listen, there ain't no changing tempo. Do you have any other examples? There were alternating blast/non-blast bars, but you might be confusing tempo with going from beats with 16ths to beats with 8ths.

That doesn't make sense, if your snare is off-tempo the only way to make it resolve is using a tempo that can be simplified into the same time signature, like playing 8ths at 160bpm in 4/4 and doing the same at 320bpm can be simplified to playing 16ths at 160 in 4/4.
It does get chaotic around the 3 minute mark and I'm not exactly sure what's going on there, but the rest of the song certainly doesn't have tempo changes.
