Hey Yea Forums musician here, trying to write a Sludge/Alternative metal album with dark ambient, post industrial, noise rock, and shoegaze influences and just wanted to know straight from the horses mouth what people would like to hear out of such an album.
Any albums you would recommend I'd listen to for inspiration?
Any thing I should try to avoid doing?
I can't decide if I would like the lyrical content to involve my emotions or personal issues or just solely revolve around my love for science fiction novels.
Anyways any advice would be appreciate thanks guys.
definitely a big jazz fan, would love to be more familiar with it and incorporate into my own music, any recs?
some of my current favorites are Bill Evans Art Blakey and (though I know he's not really strictly jazz) Amon Tobin
Samuel Howard
hi op again, really loving this so far, the atmosphere is overwhelming and crushing, exactly what I love, thanks for the rec, gonna keep on listening while I read
also once again I'm really stuck on the lyrics. I feel like writing about myself really seems vein not as to say it can't be or hasn't been done well in the past and that I don't have plenty to talk about but I think science fiction is so much more interesting of a subject than myself and I've always been a story teller at heart.
of course, big fan of Through Silver in Blood but this album rips too. big influence on me for sure, good taste bud
Josiah Morgan
Here is how you could achieve this: Take one SF story you like. Re-read it, and while reading it, note a few of the best sentences. Then re-arrange them, modify them, turn them into your own lyrics. That's how The Cure wrote their lyrics most of the time.
why would you base your music on what other people want?

sorry maybe I wasn't being clear, I'm not doing that so much as trying to perfect my craft and get advice and music recs for influence. I guess the first sentence in my post is a bit misleading, my apologies

amenra (colin really) do a really well job writing personal stuff, but it's poetic, not just some 'today sucked' type shit. their overall energy is massive. I'd also, suggest maybe playing with some similar rhythms too
Tyler Moore
>amenra wow they sound fuckin sick, gonna listen to them a bunch this week I think
