An album has to be pretty damn horrible to be a 3/10. It needs something like poor musicianship, horrible mixing or needs to be a cheap rip off of another band. This album is none of those. It's pleasant at worst. Anything under a 5/10 is wrong. Even subjectively.
Nothing is subjective in music.
I can call American Football s/t or Salad Days the 1/10s that they are and you can’t refute me on it because it’s entirely based on personal preference.

Thats why I hate the number grade for music. A 3/10 is like a catastrophic failure. AT worst, this album is a bit boring. That makes it mediocre but not completely shit like a 3/10 implies.

This is insipid. A 5 is what you should expect given the genre, nothing more nothing less.
If somebody digs the genre or the usual stuff along those lines they will likely enjoy it, but if not it doesn't bring anything new to the table.
Something that is a 3 or 4 might still be palatable for somebody that enjoys similar works.

Having a consistent songwriting style is if anything a good thing, it’s more about if the style itself is good and if the songs you make out of it are worth hearing. Fuck mac demarco either way.
