We did have post punk general, which I tried reviving some time ago, but it always dies. Would love to see that become a proper thing though.

>Post-Punk thread. This thread is for the discussion of late 70s, and early 80s post-punk music. I've included a few songs from some of the genre's most celebrated artists to get the thread going. If you've never listened to post-punk before, and you're interested in it, these should give you a good idea of the genre.

little-known fact: the cure's best album is pornography

youtube.com/watch?v=UfVwVPp8mJw
why are belgian bands with german names so good?

it's the beer

I know almost nothing about music. Is this what one would call "post-punk"?
youtube.com/watch?v=tzF0WOItXL4
I want to listen to music that sounds like this. Is post-punk the genre for me?

yep
leaning more on the darkwave/EBM side

Do you guys consider smiths post punk?

Attached: smiths85.jpg (500x304, 75K)

i mean, personally i wouldnt
but genres are for losers anyway

No, they don't have punk's anger

jungle pop

yes but the bad kind

I definitely agree, but not much of a little known fact these days.

you still have a bunch of fagets who think it's disintegration

Thoughts on Swell Maps? The drumming on Jane is sick

no but they do have a few more punk tracks then other jangle pop groups do.

>did post-punk better than any post-punk band ever did
>got more popular than any post-punk band combined
post-punkers who haven't already killed themselves on suicide watch

I guess all agree that they released only one (1) really good album, but even then it's definitely not the best post-punk has to offer. But I agree that they did a better job on being Joy Division than Joy Division themselves

a little gem

youtube.com/watch?v=FUIY16RNNis

I guess it's more new wave-y with post punk elements. but i mean the two genres are inseparable anyway

Speaking of my favorite band what’s ya’lls opinion of this album? I slept on it for along time. Regret that.

What's the key to writing post-punk bass lines that are dark, but don't sound like the bass line of Lesson No. 2?

I like Interpol but that’s just simply wrong

2 gems from when 4AD was the best label on the planet...

jesus paul looks so fucking young

Yes, if only be association with the scene. They're """technically""" indie rock or jangle pop, but I don't like splitting hairs. I think the general public lumps them in with post-punk, and they have a few punky songs, so yeah.

Also for Post Punk revival I think I like Drab Majesty better anyway

youtu.be/6RjAo3wLk_g

Bit more Goth aesthetic with a Unarian twist

Imagine concidering any band but Pere Ubu to be the best post punk band of all time

I can imagine that pretty easily. Sorry. Never got into them. The vocals annoy me instantly.

>See this D string? Yeah I basically just play it the whole time and some shit on the G string, impossible to sound bad pretty much

Attached: A-120532-1129940838.jpeg.jpg (239x300, 9K)

get over yourself

I never understood this comparison of Interpol to Joy Division. Interpol sounds way more like The Chameleons or Echo & The Bunnymen than Joy Division.

Rendez-Vous are better

Is She Pasta Way post punk?

it is

mamma mia

Interesting. Will be listening to more. Appreciate the rec.

here's another rec
youtube.com/watch?v=mlw0Rt-4UUo
appreciate that shattered windshield SFX

unfortunately some of their songs are more post-rockish (aka gay) but they at least have a good bassline

Attached: crashtoko.png (233x202, 65K)

You mean jangle pop?

They sound nothing alike, and only plens who listened to very little post-punk make that comparison.

Drab are great, love their first ep

We used to have "dark culture" threads all the time just a couple years ago, idk what happened.

The Soft Moon

youtu.be/jILV2bOemmg

youtu.be/U2ap_Zpi9SM

Derivative perhaps but they do it well until they make sub par Nine Inch Nails tracks.

Do you guys consider interpol post punk?

I recommend this to anyone who likes This Heat

Attached: cover.jpg (597x597, 99K)

I fucking love these guys. They remind me of that dreamy second wave of post-punk that hit in the early 80s like The Chameleons and Killing Joke and even some of The Cure's later stuff.

Yeah. Really looking forward to Modern Mirror.

literally every goth thinks this

which is why it's a little-known fact

Attached: tiny goth gal.png (607x614, 168K)

It's not about the sound but rather about the attitude desu

You mean they're a bunch of overhyped drama queens?

yes

Is /dark/ gonna make a comeback?

now

Based as fuck.

Dude looks like me

you ain't that handsome

>post-punk
>has nothing to do with punk
What a shitty term, like calling music after 40s post-Blues or something.

*cuh* another one of those made up genres that didn't exist.

how do I achieve a post punk look while not being white

be Japanese

Absolutely however i must admit there new album is medicore at best

What kind of post punk does Talking Heads play? I like the dancy and catchy tunes (like in their first two) but not necessarily happy (listen to fear of music for example) My favorites are in order:
>Fear of Music
>More songs about
>Remain in Light
>77'
>Speaking in Tongues
Recs more albums, artists or songs like TH!

>*cuh*
fucking embarrassing, along with the rest of your post.

they're a turkish band, not that hard to figure out

For catchy tunes and darker/sadder tone, The Smiths/MGMT (really only LDR) are my go-to, but they're not really post-punk

study counterpoint
also post your music

The only Smiths I can digest is The Queen is Dead. Little Dark Age is fucking good and I hope they keep doind music that way.

>MGMT
Jesus Christ.

EBM = Electronic Bance Music

No that’s post rap rock you dummy

Electronic Body Music

youtu.be/edNq0Kmt5jo

Big genre in the late 80’s early 90’s but not talked about here much. An offshoot of Industrial.

Then how come they sound like extra-autistic Finns?

Attached: thonktoko.png (536x562, 368K)

You can be a cunt and also contribute you know, rec some shit.

>not recognising good synthpop

I can't listen to post-punk exclusively or I'd probably end up killing myself

"Read About Seymour" is god-tier. Savage Republic is decent semi-obscure US post-punk.

i want to be goth but my hair lies flat, is there any hope for me

the rhythm section is definitely post punk

is by post punk you mean "Al Green at double tempo" then sure

I would say Morrissey's vocal lines and passionate drama are what give them their darker/melancholic edge

Speaking in tongues is their best though mane

You guys consider these goofs postpunk?

Attached: oingo.jpg (600x597, 92K)

postdorks

It was concurrent with punk, but you're right, it's a stupid term. Just call it what it is, gothic rock.

It was basically the punk rock (ideology) version of punk rock

All post-punk isn't gothic rock though

How come nobody talks about Bodega?

Attached: a1596674546_16.jpg (700x700, 31K)

I fail to hear the post-punk in this. Can somebody enlighten a pleb?

>What kind of post punk does Talking Heads play
Avant-funk

en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avant-funk

Sort of, some of their first two albums could be post-punk but Elfman has said that he was influenced more by XTC and Madness than any kind of punk music
