>bass A decent metronome and keep using it no matter what you play. If you can't keep time, you're fucking useless no matter how fast you play on the bass.

If you can afford it, I'd also recommend an interface and some kind of DAW. Helps to be able to record and hear yourself back to see where your technique might be going wrong. Also can't stress how right is, its one thing to be a guitarist with loose time (they can get away with treating it as a 'stylistic' choice) but bass sounds like shit if you're not locked into the pocket
Brandon Gray
Tell me about it, hubba hubba...
Anthony Scott
Unfortunately a MIM bass is stop if my budget rn so no DAW. I’m buying an amp even though I’ll be using headphones mostly.
Can I get good practing alone? I have no friends. Also do you know if talkingbass course is worth buying? I like his teaching style in vids I’ve seen.
Caleb Reyes
If you have a Mac, garageband works great as a way of supplementing your practise with playback, and it doesn't cost a thing too.
>Can I get good practing alone? Absolutely. As long as you manage your time efficiently and are able to dedicate at least a few hours a day to practise there's no reason why you shouldn't be able to pick it up fairly quickly. Play along with a variety of songs with different tempos and feels, take difficult individual sections and loop them to a metro while building up speed and precision (this is why its good to have a DAW), and study the techniques of your favourite players. Of course, there is a ceiling to this kind of practise, since so much of performance is grounded in the ability of players to listen and respond to other players spontaneously in real time. I can't tell you how amazing it feels when you take a chance and do something off-chart and it goes down a treat because your band are able to hear what it is you're doing differently. You simply can't have that experience playing to backing tracks
>Also do you know if talkingbass course is worth buying? no course is truly worth spending money on. Either pay for private lessons or just endlessly consume free content on youtube. Some of it is significantly worse than others, but for the most part there is some genuinely valuable stuff on there.
Logan Campbell
why do you think this is funny? are you brain damaged?
Oh nice yeah I do have a Mac. Thanks I’ll stick to free stuff.
Isaac Butler
Jcum’s boogie man lmao
Wyatt Martin
>Jcum finally snaps, drives all the way across the country and murders Roman in his home >"Finally, I win. His hold over me is broken, my torment is over. I can be at peace now. Thank you, God." >goes on trial, gets life in prison without the possibility of parole >a year and a half goes by >he sits down in the prison library to use the internet he was rewarded for his good behavior as a model prisoner >opens up /gg/ >.........I'm still here shitpostin' away like nothin' happened >mfw I got to him but he couldn't get to me
the op of the old thread had a anime girl holding this weird looking guitar. what in the world is it called i cant find one that looks like it on google
>nobody's ever heard of lmao @ your life senpai. he's the lead guitarist of Meshuggah and Scar Symmetry. oh hey, here's Per Nilsson improvising on a stratocaster. just for you, grandpa
I fucking hate Scar Symmetry, but his work with Kaipa is great.
Cooper Jackson
Guys after years of trying to learn blues and metal i have come to a rather embarrassing conclusion >I cant play funk to save my life >i always thought of funk as being to easy to be worth my attention >but yesterday i actually had to give it a try for a friends project and I utterly SUCK Fugg
High wattage amps are fine unless you really want natural amp distortion
Nicholas Fisher
Ill take that as a yes. I cant imagine being that pathetic
John Williams
F# if you know theory E if you just know chord shapes
Camden Baker
>natural amp distortion as i get better, i want to play metal more sooo ... is this an issue?
I'm still green
Elijah Fisher
No, distortion and overdrive pedals work fine. Amp distortion is some audiophile shit and you want a 5w mini tube amp for it.
Jose Bell
okay cool
I'm in the market for a new guitar.
Getting a Ibanez SA160 and Fender Deluxe 90 DSP Combo for $600 total...
The guitar is a little scratched up due to belt rash. But front looks good.
My buddy is saying it's a great deal.
Jeremiah Hill
>as i get better, i want to play metal Then don't buy a fender amp. They're great for cleans, not so much for high gain.
Xavier Campbell
And you're getting fucking ripped off. You're paying stock price for the amp and getting a shitty 2008 made in China thrown in.
Levi Gray
Do any online stores (UK) give discounts if you buy a guitar, amp and bunch of other stuff or is it not a thing?
Ethan Fisher
I have a 0.022uf capacitor that has the letter K on it instead of all the ones I have seen on Amazon that have J on them, what would be the difference between the two when in a guitar? Would there be any significant difference?
Liam Green
This.
Jason Davis
K stands for kaka and thus it is better for brown tones
Isaiah Sanchez
>I want to play metal more >so how's this cheap ibanez that costs as much as a new squire and low gain digital fender amp no
and the amp is 400$ new and the guitar about 500$ new.
you think i'm getting ripped still...? what do you recommend as a good practice guitar? right now i have a simple Yamaha ERG121C from Costco 15 years ago lol
I believe that's tolerance. It doesn't matter for a guitar.
William Young
ok thanks for the input, white brother
Aiden Harris
Yeah you're getting ripped especially if you want a more rock and metal sound.
Thomas Robinson
>i think it's made in korea Guess again. The SA160 is a Made in China shitplank. SA is the model, it being an S body (thinner than RG, rounded off a bit, carved top on the higher end, not this one). 100 series is the absolute cheapest they have. It's literally a fucking GIO. ibanez.fandom.com/wiki/SA160
Thomas Green
Thanks, I read the same too, K stands for 10% tolerance and J for 5% tolerance. Why does it not matter for a guitar, if I may ask?
Mason Myers
Listen mate. There is good ibanez. And then there is bad ibanez. The SA160 is bad ibanez.
You'd have more fun with a squire.
Mason Carter
>$250 amp >+guitar is $600 so the guitar is $350 $50 off MSRP for a decade old chinese guitar? Wow man great deal there.
It would sell in a pawn shop for about $200 and they'd give you maybe $75 for it. Just letting you know what the future holds.
Cooper Bennett
It's not a highly speciliazed circuit and you probably won't notice a difference anyways. Unless you put 2 side by side, one -10% and one +10%. Most of the time they're pretty spot on anyways.
William Sanders
ok
headstock says made in Korea.
What's a GIO?
ok, looks like I'm still going to be searching then. No prob. I've only played for like a year or so.
Dylan King
that just means it's at least 14 years old
$350 for a guitar that sold for $400 14 years ago. yikes. someone has it out for you.
Leo Baker
Alright, thanks again.
Justin Jones
lol
ok looking more on Kijiji now... i shall return
>tips fedora
Dominic Mitchell
Then it's an even older one, we're talking 2000-2004. Korean built was not a stamp of approval back then. GIO is the entry tier Ibanez range of guitars, the kind that clueless parents buy for their kids. They're shit, the Yamaha you posted is probably a better guitar than this is.
Eli Brown
autism metal sucks so much
Julian Young
you have no taste if you don't practice metal riffs with a clean tone and a fuckload of reverb
>The Slayers - Angel of Wipeouts
Jacob White
kek, then that's a good thing I didn't fuck myself by purchasing it.
The orange amp someone suggested to me doesn't shit to Cuckada. Any other amp suggestions, people?
Or maybe I should just go to a store...
Robert Stewart
What should an average practice session consist of at the very least?
Brody Foster
Message the seller and ask them if they'll ship to Canada.
Owen Turner
How do I git gud at Tom Misch sort of finger style? I just want to be mellow and jazzy
Luis Moore
First off, what the fuck are you doing looking at shit online? Go to a store. Hold the instrument, play it a bit. If you're afraid of sucking, ask for a headset to test it with. If you're looking at used, any reputable store will have a used gear corner.
Gavin Fisher
i'm the beginner asking about the Ibanez
but what I do is 10min or so of chords and transitioning between them
Then 20min minimum practicing the song I'm trying to learn... which is Floods at the moment.
is the question. also, beware the music store meme. you can end up overpaying or getting something you don't want because of the limitations of their stock if you're feeling pressured or impatient. it's not a car, a visual inspection will do you more good than a test drive (guitars will often sound like trash off the shelf due to setup issues)
20 min technique (chord transitions, scales with metronome and correct hand position, picking technique, etc) 10 min song practice 10 min break/hand stretching 20 min technique 10 min song practice then an hour of learning your theory and sight reading practice
Justin Cox
This is the first non solid color finish that I've seen that looks somewhat good actually
Lets hear some of your music. That just might do it.
Hudson Rodriguez
That's just a guitar

I feel like I've seen this pic before in an Yea Forums thread months ago
Ethan Perry
Should I buy a surf green squier affinty? Too poor to buy the fender version which is 800 bucks. I've currently got a vintage modified jazzmaster that plays really well but have heard mixed things about the bullets and affinitys
You're buying an instrument, not a fashion statement.
Tyler Edwards
you can do bass -> preamp -> DI -> PA speaker (if you're a gay) or bass -> interface/DI -> computer sims and impulse response (if you're a mega homogay)
you can also skip the interface/DI and sound noisy and shitty if you're retarded on top of that
amps are a lot cooler. hot girls don't care about your honky j-bass coming out of your shitty computer speakers
AT LEAST use a preamp into a bass cab, unless you're poor, or unsure that bass is your instrument
Something that cost a lot of money because there are few to no alternatives aside from unbranded chinese shit.
Josiah Morales
What's your favorite wah petal?
Justin Baker
got no manners and i'm not to clean but i know what i like if you know what i mean

Ian Kelly
>want to buy a multifx to use for effects and modulations and dirt, in front of a real amp, as a substitute for pedals >look comparisions against the real pedal it emulates >be reminded that even newer multifxs sounds dead and poorly-eqd and lack the chime of a real od pedal >get sad because no fx toys
What is the point of transcribing stuff for studying it? Why do you need to write it down and look at it instead of just hearing it and playing it and analyzing it in your head? It boggles my mind.
It trains your ears to recognize intervals with accuracy
Ryder Brown
You ordered from Stewmac?
John Roberts
That's part of learning it and "playing it". Writing it down isn't necessary for that. And we have interval ear training that doesnt even require a piece of music to study.
It kind of looks nice in satin black. I may skip the nitro finish. I was gonna do it as practice for my upcoming purchase but fuck it. I already spent too much on this plywood squier bullet special. What do you think?
I like it. Would look better if the body was a darker blue instead of black tho
Parker Phillips
boring. I hope the guy with the Ferny comes with a rather nice guitar refinish.
Cooper Cooper
I like the matte black but you need a single coil in the neck desu otherwise it's just a meme guitar
Grayson Diaz
It's mostly helpful for jazz or classical music where there's complex structure or weird ass chord substitutions
Nicholas Hill
Its aluminum tape for pickguard shielding. I just bought a big piece. This plywood bullet special anniversary is only routed for a single humbucker
Brandon Long
>bullet Why are you polishing a turd?
Alexander Bell
Not him, but it's a good way to learn how to work on guitars.
Jeremiah Perez
why you're posting a bunch of parts and pots and caps
Mason Brooks
It's one thing to use one to learn how to do setup or do fret work or whatever. It's another thing entirely to actually put money into it.
Ethan Miller
related to the thread's edition
do you know what you want? you don't know for sure you don't feel right, you can't find a cure and you're gettin' less than what you're lookin' for you don't have money or a fancy car and you're tired of wishin' on a falling star you gotta put your faith in a loud guitar
"now listen" if you wanna be a singer, or play guitar man, you gotta sweat or you won't get far cause it's never too late to work nine-to-five you can take a stand, or you can compromise you can work real hard or just fantasize but you don't start livin' till you realize - "i gotta tell ya!"
"i know life sometimes can get tough! and i know life sometimes can be a drag! but people, we have been given a gift, we have been given a road and that road's name is... rock and roll!"
Camden Taylor
Well luckily, we live in a world where people can do pretty much what they want to.
Jackson Richardson
And I'm free to call you fucking retard for it.
Evan Cox
Yeah, but I'm not the one doing it.
Jaxson Robinson
Because im bored and its something to do in between beers. Its for a buddy of mine. Huh?
Anthony Jackson
Y u mad tho?
Jacob Perez
HOLY FUCK MY FINGERS ARE MISSING THE STRINGS LIKE A DAD WITH DEMENTIA
Elijah Sullivan
I just got a Pacifica. A beginner. What are some things you should adjust for a guitar when you get it out of the box new?
Bentley Lewis
neck bow, string height, frets, pickup height, intonation, make sure the tuners are tight
Evan Jenkins
GUITAR IS TURNING YOU GAY
Charles Ramirez
not guitar related but is there some website where i can learn to play the piano or something?
Christopher Harris
is it good im thinking about buying one aswell
Ayden Murphy
i just got back from the doctor and I have inerior and anterior tears in my right ventrical wall. I'm going to need open heart surgery. I want to play my guitar so bad.

Zachary Torres
My buddy had open heart a year ago at 25 due to a birth defect, it was a rough go. Basically my best friend since he was 14, but he made it to the other side of it. The lead up and recovery were really hard, it tore him apart. Not playing guitar, not being able to have a beer with the homies, not being able to work took a big toll on him mentally. Stay strong dude, medicine is incredible these days, he could barely walk for a few weeks but he stuck with PT and was back at work in about 3 months, able to do most of the things he loved again. Stay strong, brother. The shit isn't easy but it's all temporary, you'll be back in the game in short order.
Henry Brown
>Rent free The song
Gabriel Price
there's no homework, i study guitar by myself. >hear a song >learn it on guitar >analyze the guitar part >sing it if i want, to train the ear >??? done. no transcribing needed.
Jason Green
Just because you're evading filters on user doesn't mean we can't all tell it's you, homie. Especially when you're bagging on sammy like a white trap on black dick.
Camden Scott
With no hope With no will Tried haiku yet He failed still
Dylan Allen
i hope you get well user
Tyler Diaz
Ok. But i havent taken my trip off Literally >rent free
Liam Campbell
I'm not experienced at all, literally can only play 3 chords so I'm not the best to answer that. But from a begginers point of view it is really good for the price. Nowhere does it feel like they skimped out, the tone switcher thing has some really nice timbre. From brittle to warm acoustic like sounds. What's nice is it's fully featured so eventually you can upgrade parts like with any guitar. No complaints, got the violin finish and it looks pretty.
I agree that you don't really need to write it down. Being able to play and understand it is good enough. Whether you write it down or not you are still training your ear and developing vocabulary. Though, if notating music is a skill you want to develop then it's a good idea to write the stuff down.
Liam Clark
finish? soapwater or mineral spirits?
Carter Ward
whats the longest time it took for you to learn a new song.
i've been trying to learn how to cover smiths but marr's guitar is fucking my boyhole.
im thinking of your ear to judge the quality of the effects
James Diaz
this is the tier of the majority of posts of this big guitarists instagram page. they get plenty of views and praise and i believe i am better than them while i'm stuck doing nothing. instagram.com/p/BxipI34F-OG/
Cameron Watson
Your average instagram thot or fuckboi doesn't know shit about music. They just see a handsome boy playing guitar and gush all over it.
Bentley Richardson
I hate this website for anything guitar related. It's either dadshit or le jazzy neosoul.
Joseph Allen
Is anyone here able to listen a piece of music and tell me if it's sang in chest or mixed voice? pls.
William Nguyen
theres some good stuff
Easton Wright
He paid for that spot lol these days you have to pay for the those pages to repost your videos and that’s not even mentioning how most of the views and likes are artificial because of the problem with bot accounts.
Easton Foster
Allen Heath 4 channel something
Christian Stewart
Fuck off sam
Hudson Gonzalez
Are you aware that guitar companies have r and d departments to make them look nice and get people to wanna play them?
I have a good guitar I want another one that I won't be afraid to get beat up a little and that's nice to look at which is why I want a surf green strat I'm simply asking what my options are
Daniel Young
>won't be afraid to get beat up a little resell? not worth
Brayden Gray
I just want to say. I don't know where your at, but I would recommend any musician get a library card, so many books and things available*
Grayson Barnes
I don't sell my gear and I'm planning on using it for live shows
youre a regular leo fender, cant play for shit but you can sure polish a turd
Julian Parker
ALL OF /GG/ SHOUKD BUY ANNIVERSARY SQUIER BULLETS AND TURD POLISH THEM SO WE CAN ARGUE ABOUT THAT. not sam hes too poor
Cameron Adams
Nah, I just make fun of his brother and how his dad shot himself.
Adam Wood
pickup ring kills it
Aiden Scott
Gold hardware sucks though
Carter Roberts
Ever notice that when you're around lower level guitar players they like to undermine certain skills you have, seemingly out of jealousy? I have one friend that WILL NOT let me play with him without a tuner, will literally refuse to play with me until I use a tuner to tune my guitar. I have been playing guitar for 12 years of my life, I can fucking tune my guitar by ear.
Xavier Butler
You can tell how many people actually play guitar vs people who just but expensive gear from comments like this
Squires made now aren't the shhity squires from the 90s most are decent guitars for the price and can be adjusted to make them play better
Cameron Edwards
Are you retarded?
Matthew Brooks
I like to play on a fucking rogue starter with action that you couldn't barre and I still would never own a squire.
Evan Murphy
You just made my point for me you're just hung up on some Boomer branding nonsense
Adrian Gonzalez
unless you have perfect pitch and your low E is exactly 82.41Hz everytime you should be in the habit to tuning with an actual tuner so everyone else in the band is tuned to the same exact thing everytime do you think keyboard players tune their keyboards to the guitarist?
Sebastian Rogers
My first guitar was a $200 Squier Strat bought new around 1997. It actually played really really well.
Ever since I played one when I was 16 and felt what a piece of absolute shit it was I've never even considered that trash. Just get a real guitar used.
Wyatt Brooks
What do you suggest? It goes perfect with my meme machine. Lets see your hardware.
>Playing power chords by laying my fingers across the strings hurts my wrist >fret them with three fingers >harder but no pain and easier to transition to actual chords
Which is the right way?
Isaac Lewis
live with the pain
Adam Russell
Get a job and then a yammy. If not a new nut and bridge. Enjoy your guitar either way.
Austin Green
Squire isn't all good. The classic vibes got worse and supposedly an early batch of the contemporary jazzmasters had poorly cut nuts and open string buzz. Also the pickups on those sound like dogshit.
If you tell china to give you QC worthy of a $350 guitar that's what they give you.
Cooper Cook
i wanna buy more guitar pedals
Kevin Flores
Get a job?
Julian King
ew
Bentley Cruz
buy an interface and download an amp sim. you can have infinite pedals.
or just build them.
or get/make a user-programmable digital effects pedal.
just don't fuel the pedal industry, it's time it died and i am getting really sick of all the quirky indie shit and snake oil mojo tone babble.
Benjamin Smith
You know if you get a job for like 6 months you can save up buy nice stuff and then enjoy it as a neet.
Same, tried many things but my left hand still hurts often. I think it's the neck profile at this point.
Angel Garcia
It's worse on curved fretboards imho, i had to go from "comfy" 9.5 to 14" for actual comfort
I have the least problems chording normally on a classical guitar so I don't have to worry about muting unplayed strings so much but those aren't very metal and my right hand is properly fucked beyond being good for fingerpicking
Cameron Baker
i got a job boyo
David Diaz
I have one of those pacifica shitplanks and it's torture because they are designed for asian manlet hands. Slimmer nuts than squiers and even less thick on the back. I tried a D profile with 43mm spacing on a charvel recently and that felt a lot better.
Adam Gomez
Most guitars are made for manlet hands. It's so the people with normal hands can shred faster.
Benjamin Russell
Anyone have any experience with Jackson Dinky-style bodies? How small are they compared to traditional Strats? I've heard the smaller size is because the body itself is thinner, with slightly more cutaway at the neck joint, as opposed to being a proportionately smaller guitar. I'm looking into getting a Charvel that happens to have a Dinky-style body, and since I'm tall and have big hands I don't want something that's going to look like a toy on me when I play it. Cheers.
David Hernandez
you dont need the octave in power chords. just play the root and 5th
Levi Torres
This is ugly.
Adrian Watson
I have like 4 other guitars but I like that piece of shit because it sounds unique and is really hard to play.
Lincoln Robinson
Like i said then. Give it a new nut and bridge.
Liam Miller
Nah, they're perfectly good worn down plastic.
John Phillips
>plastic Wew lad. Get tusq xl or bone.
Colton Price
But I play with moderate gain and the octave sounds good
Should I get EMGz and a randall satan so I don't have to play richer sounding chords?
Nathan Evans
Should I return my strat and get a telecaster instead.
Easton Bell
no. the tele is a godawful uncomfortable body shape.
i've been playing for about a year and i just bought a new guitar, it's an Ibanez Gio GRG-140BN, every time i try to put it into a different tuning i need to retune every string several times since it seems to be returning to the previous note it was tuned on, is this some weird shit or was that made on purpose so it doesn't go out of tune when using the whammy bar? also is there any way i can fix it? i thought about tightening the screws on the tuners but i'll rather ask if it's a good idea or not since i don't wanna fuck anything up
