Generally speaking, I don't do that. You may not need the money but if a club owner thinks he can always get some wanker to do it for nothing, overall DJs are on the losing side because trying to work out the prices gets so much more annoying. If you are good at something don't do it for free and if you don't consider yourself good enough to charge for it stick to house parties for now. Of course I got one or two venues where I would do exceptions but I do try to make sure that it stays just that, an exception and I wouldn't base that on the money the club has available but rather on the networking opportunities and on the soundsystem.
