The state and district attorney need to carefully build a case and examine everything in detail because this could potentially impact other trials depending on the outcome. Since Chris is probably still under psych evaluation, hasn't been sentenced, and isn't deemed a danger to himself or others, he's being transported back to general prison population for the time being. His defense is likely trying to argue that he isn't of sound mind to stand trial, or at the very least use it to lighten his sentence. The other part of this is the prosecution examining the victim, the mother, and seeing the extent of her mental capacity. If Barb is truly out of it, then this looks worse for Chris as he legally took advantage of an impaired woman.
