It's a good album. It gets unfairly slammed a lot because 1) it was fairly popular back in the day, 2) it's angsty, and 3) it helped to inspire a lot of much angstier, less good industrial rock from the likes of Marilyn Manson. Self-important autists act like they're above that sort of thing. The thing about angst is that something being angsty doesn't automatically put it on the same level of emotional depth as Naruto. Trent's angst is expressed more artfully than Manson's or any of the other NIN imitators. His despair and anger over the state of his life feel real.

Pic related is another instance of an album that's angsty in a good way. Sometimes unmitigated emotional expression can be compelling. Excessive maybe, but you never doubt the authenticity of the artist's emotions.

trent reznor is extremely talented and to say otherwise is retarded. some of his music can sound dated and cheesy but he was a hugely influential figure in his time. hating NiN is just lazy and contrarian
