They have books and hours and hours and months and weeks to draw from to make a case, meet together, look at precedent, and then and only then decide if they are going to charge someone or not. A police officers interdiction and arrest/detainment for an offense is a relatively quick and unrelated affair. I don’t think it would be necessarily more helpful to know case law as a cop for the aforementioned setting. All these wannabe internet lawyer know it alls can fight and maybe even win in court. But it’s our job to get them there, too often they believe for some reason we’re deciding to sentence them to jail. No, dude, we’re just letting other people sort that shit out.
