It's likely one of two things. either you don't have enough system ram or your gpu doesn't have enough vram. Try closing everything except blender, if that doesn't work, do a CPU render instead of GPU render.

when you run blender you can choose to open it with diagnostic console (Window -> Toggle System Console) and for sure you're running out of VRAM on stinky anemic macbook
when you run out of VRAM there's no fallback to slower system RAM it just crashes gracefully
