/weezer-core/

Let's post Weezer-core bands! Summer is near and I'm in the mood for some Power Pop Alternative Rock goodness. Post any bands that have some similarities to Weezer and you'd think we Weezer fans would like! :D

Starting with the essential Ozma. If you haven't listened to them and want the Pinkerton Pt. 2 that Weezer never delivered, here it is (and it's ridiculously good):

This album is debatably more Punk than Power Pop, but still worth a listen

Tony Molina is the only good Weezer-sound alike.

Everything else attempting to sound like Weezer is incredibly embarrassing like:

Weezer toured with them in the 90s.
They are a way more punk, more 50s rock and roll Weezer, with weirder lyrics and a horn and sometimes string section.
The first song is OK, the rest of the album is pure dynamite.
This album was released in 1994(?) and was only available on vinyl for 6 years.
The drummers of Weezer and Rocket formed The Special Goodness.

I love Ozma, and all my friends just say how they're a weezer ripoff

hello everyone

i suppose its related, but did anyone listen to that b-sides blue album that was released on record store day? was it worth it?

Good choice, though I think We Cool is a bit closer to the Weezer sound
Wasn't that just supposed to be the bonus tracks from Blue's deluxe edition?

Basically the direction weezer shouldve gone.

Basically any 90's and on power pop band. Think Nada Surf - Popular type shit.

Also, Chomsky: youtube.com/watch?v=he_WtzetWeQ
"Onward Quirky Soldiers" is a great album.

It's good!

He lifts at least one melody from a songs from the black hole era song though

also this: this is basically buttrock, but melodically I associate it with weezer. also just generally punchy early '00s pop rock in a similar vein

the anniversary are pretty weezy at times

Fountains of Wayne, in all seriousness.

Weezer

This album really reminds me of Weezer but more so in ethos than sound.
