Stay with it. There are legit 6 classic, all time great Cure songs on that album, and there's really no filler whatsoever. If you don't like this album you just really don't like the Cure.

Friday I'm In Love is one of their biggest hits and it came out years later.

It's not that The Cure were ever "deep and serious" so much as unwaveringly honest. Robert Smith did Robert Smith and no one else, I don't think he ever knew how to do anything else. Even when they shifted to pop and started performing in dresses, that's because he just fucking felt like making pop music and performing in dresses one day. The one thing that ever really shook him was being a Banshee and that was probably for the better.

While i do agree Pornography is better you can't really compare the two. Pornography is a much more violent sounding record.

Disintegration is genuinely one of the best break-up songs of all time. Listen to it after a bitter end to a relationship, trust me. You know when you slam your fingernail in a door or hit it with a hammer or something and the blood starts to pool underneath it, and you have to use a heated paperclip to pierce the nail and you get that sense of pain but with immediate relief? Disintegration is the hot paperclip.
