The simple truth user is that it should and could be. What keeps it from being free is that society would decimate itself. We live in an increasingly complex world that teeters on the brink of destruction every day. Telling the entire population that they don't need to struggle to live would result in a bunch of people realizing how stupid modern life really is. If you have a house and some land, you can live off of it completely free from the government. Grab some chickens, some seeds, some fertilizer, and eventually you can get something that will never require you to visit a city again. The only thing keeping a huge portion of the population from doing this is the price of housing and land. If you had enough people doing this it would be completely feasible for Amish-like communities to pop up and care for themselves, but this type of "simple living" would affect everything. Sales for movies, sales for video games, college enrollment, potential hiring pools, military recruitment, etc. The government and those with money have every reason not to make these things free. Perhaps its better this way? Otherwise we would have slower technological progress and likely would get conquered. Hard to say without seeing it in action.

The problem with capitalism is that money makes money. This is fine short term but overtime it inevitably makes a feedback loop that leads to wealth consolidation. A few with all the money and the majority with very little. It's like a bug in the coding that breaks the entire system. To fix capitalism we need to find a way to patch and remove the ability to invest money, or to otherwise make money with money. The only way to make money should be through equivalent work. The only way to attain goods should be with this money. If everyone who was rich got there by actually putting in the work, I feel like a lot of our issues would be solved. Maybe blocking the ability to pass down wealth would be good too. Even if your dad was rich, you'll be broke if you don't work hard too. Imagine how much better society would be if everyone was actually trying to do a good job, because there was actual reward for it! lol. Imagine working 2 jobs, not just to survive, but to become rich!

Because land is finite and can never be distribted fairly. California is a good example. Everyone wants to live by the coast, generally within 30 minutes drive to the ocean, because the climate is more favorable by the ocean. But what happens when all land by the sea is taken? The only way is to start moving further inland. In a capitalist society, land is simply more expensive by the sea and cheaper the further inland you go. In your utopian version of conmunism, such land would never be given away fairly because some areas just have intrinsically higher value so the government is now burdened with having to force late comers into living in the desert.
