Part of it is indeed because it's a fix. I think a lot of us are lonely and bored and depressed, and this helps distract us somehow easily from those issues. You can also succumb to alcohol dependence or drug dependence, but we chose this as our drug I guess.
By that logic I think that you can find something else else to replace it, though, at least.
A lot of the reason that we enjoy this as well though is because of the communal feeling. So whatever you are going to replace this with, you're also going to need to seek out the communal feelings there.
One thing that I found that actually helps out a lot with loneliness is listening to podcasts. Just listening to something interesting for an hour all the loneliness and horniness that was building up inside you goes away.
But I think, even still, it would then be important to interact with the comments of the podcast. Or maybe there are forums or discord servers for those podcasts.
I think the community feeling is important. And I think this is all just distract us from the loneliness and depression.
