One of the greatest bands of all time. Billy was an adventurous songwriter who covered an incredible amount of ground very well. And his chemistry and timing with Chamberlain, who is one of the best rock drummers ever, was like lightning in a bottle.
Better than the entire genre of grunge. The best rock band of the 90's
First two albums are fucking amazing. Third and fourth are alright. The rest are shit. Billy is redpilled about reptilians
90s pumpkins = pure kino. What made the 90's great. Also they did their own thing instead of following the grunge trend
2000s pumpkins = meh to absolute garbage
Im also a wrestling smark and i was skeptical of billy getting involved in the wrestling world but have come to respect him as a fellow smark
they had such a unique sou-

No one gives a shit
Those bands couldnt' write song
Boomer tier faggy shit
Billy was the greates songwriter of the 90s.
..except for the two excellent songs I just posted, not to mention many, many others
You're a defensive retard. I actually really like the Smashing Pumpkins, I have physical copies of a number of their albums, and I like literally everything they've done except Zeitgeist, which I think is awful.
You're too much, fuck off you child.
that was released 1995. pumpkins were already huge and better
I mean SIamese Dream came out in 93. Those came 2 years later.
Bad post.
Hum still fucking sucks.
>..except for the two excellent songs I just posted, not to mention many, many others
Which came out AFTER the pumpkins became massive?
>Not including the best era.

Post your favorite Smashing Pumpkins songs:
Best pumpkins albums probably:
Siamese Dream
Mellon Collie
Zeitgeist
I don't know why no one likes Zeitgeist. Billy's voice sounds awful on it for some reason - either the tone or he's flat - but it's still a great album.
Lol @ Hum
They completely began aping the Smashing Pumpkins after Siamese Dream
Based
Proto gish SP was too fucking good also
In a better world, they would be remembered as the definitive 90s band, while Nirvana went into the dustbin of history where they belong.
I miss when music was musical. Now we've just got hipsters and Billie Eilish and crap.
No, you're just a defensive retard. It doesn't sound like you've fucked off. Alternately, consider killing yourself.
the only one flying off the handle here is you
small penis or something?
keep going
You're the one who got defensive about my post. You're a prick. kys
Curt Cobain was better looking than Billy Corgan. That's all that matters in life. Look at Billie EIlish or any other pop star.
Everything from Gish to Adore (and counting Pisces Iscariot and The Aeroplane Flies High) are fucking great. The rest are pretty hit or miss.
Also, anyone else liked Shiny and Oh So Bright? I did.
not the guy you were responding to but hum does indeed suck : - )
Your post was wrong. You posted stuff that came AFTER pumpkins got big.
Billy covered an incredible amount of ground too in his style so he didn't have just one.
eg.
youtube.com
That was his strength and weakness and it led to some amazing stuff.
>Shiny and Oh So Bright
Holy fuck I didn't even know this came out. I'm so out of touch. Gonna go listen to it. Solara was nice.
The specific examples I posted may not have been early, but those bands all started around the same time. My point was, that was part of the Chicago sound, and the other bands in the scene don't get enough credit.
Fucking defensive Billy Corgan fanboy retards.
Why is there someone in here accusing Billy Corgan of ripping off Hum? What the fuck?
no opinions here boss sorry can't help ya

why are you so mad that no one is impressed that you're aware of those bands? i don't even know why you brought them up. take a deep breath and relax or just leave the thread
It doesn't matter. This is how history is. No one remembers all the bands Beatles borrowed from. Just the Beatles because they were the biggest and most successful at it.
Damn dude thanks for all of these. Is there any compilation with these gems?
>The definitive version of Quiet:
If we're talking live versions, Tear was incredible live and this is what the album version should have been more like:

Not sure why you listed that Quiet performance as being special since it's essentially just the album version.
the best smashing pumpkins rip off band is silversun pickups. Basically what would happen if sp had still been good in the 2000s
Agreed. Though as above, I still think Zeitgeist was good.
not a bad band but extremely limited songwriting compared to peak smashing pumpkins
Big deal, there was a Jewel and a Meredith Brooks in the 90s. But you didn't care about them.
I hated Jewel and Meredith Brooks.
Machina (I and II) is the most underrated record. Im glad the remaster is finally getting worked on. So many incredible songs.

Its some of the most beautiful music/lyrics Billy ever composed in my opinion. Hopefully the remastered double album will get people to appreciate the music of this era.
>remaster
Why would you want a remaster? Anything "remastered" just means they're going to clip it another 2-3 dB so it sounds more distorted and "louder" but otherwise worse and more irritating to listen to.
So yeah. There's always been a Billie Eyelash around. Nothing new, really.
Are the original remaster that bad? I never listened to any Machina before but I want to get the best sound. Should I wait until the remaster?
original master was really bad, and machina 2 was barely mastered.
Also Billy is remixing the album to be somewhere in between the mix of MI and MII, which would be a perfect compromise.
at least Jewel was hot back in the day
Yeah but I feel like that's all there is now. The musical landscape feels so barren.
If you're a Pumpkins fan, is there anything you listen to nowadays that you think matches the musicality and quality of Pumpkins stuff?
Everything I hear now is just vacant empty pop productions drowned in reverb like Imagine Dragons, simple 'trap' loops for incompetent rappers that have nothing worthwhile to say, or manufactured pop sold on the backs of sexy girls because no one would listen otherwise.
It's depressing.
>Whir
ABSOLUTELY BASED
>Billy is remixing the album
Oh well that's different. If it's a full remix and remaster that would be neat.
Anyway, I always loved Stand Inside Your Love. One of my favorites to play on guitar.
Sure. There isn't just one compilation for all the tracks, those are just some songs I really like, but I would suggest getting the Mashed Potatoes boxset. It's amazing.
I just like that performance it's from their VHS they put in the 90s, Vieuphoria. I also think it sounds fuller than the album version.
this is what people dont get. The world has basically turned into a hellscape where your only options are the manufactured garbage. There are no anti heroes. Just pop garbage
I just want to smack every zoomer on the face and whisper "you dont even know man, you dont even know how much better this world could be"
Jewel actually sang and played guitar and make some really catchy songs. Billie is the worst fucking industry plant, she can't even remember her own songs live and has a whole team behind her.
>Everything I hear now is just vacant empty pop productions drowned in reverb like Imagine Dragons, simple 'trap' loops for incompetent rappers that have nothing worthwhile to say, or manufactured pop sold on the backs of sexy girls because no one would listen otherwise.
Or fart sniffing hipsters like Vampire Weekend who think being in a rock band is some sort of ironic performance art project.
kill yourself
lmao. great post
I can comfortably say there's without a doubt not a single band that approaches both the technical skill, diversified songwriting and performances and overall quality of the Pumpkins in their original incarnation out there today.
It's going to get worse. The problem is that music tools are becoming more and more formulaic to assemble songs with. Plus no one's performing anything live anymore so the human element goes out.
So everything will only sound more and more identical over time. Until eventually the songs will just write themselves because computers can just as easily assemble the crap themselves.
No Doubt, they were the better band out of all of them.
