Honestly nothing bad to say about B&D. Great bang for your buck, might not hold up to professional work but perfect for a home handyman or DIYer. Surprisingly tough and decently versatile range of products (though again all really geared towards more a hobbyist than tradesman)

Black and decker is garbage

Side note:I hate that they base everything on voltage for the normies
It's so dumb

They're hobbyists' tools not tradesman's tools, hence the price point, voltage, and overall shorter lifespan.

This is the kinda bait I can't help but bite on. Black and decker is garbage and you know it. So many wanna argue, Ridgid, Milwaukee, DeWalt, Makita. All useful but you get what you pay for. If you're looking to do real professional quality with no cordless set can top Hilti, it's not even possible to argue.

>12v
0/10 b8

This is the most interesting thread I’ve seen here in a long time, for me personally at least.

I don’t know shit about tools, but I’ve been looking to build a collection since becoming a homeowner.

That's fair
My statement about voltage still stands
12v vs 18v doesn't really mean anything
People think "higher number=better"
It's better to hear about peak draw and total Ah

What a waste

Bait

But, contractorfag here and this shit pisses me off.

You know what else? Fuck dewalt and Milwaukee too. Yeah that's right.
They're good tools but, have no warranty.

Grab some harbor freight shit. The one with the warranty. It'll break prematurely, but the replacement is free. Same with thier wrenches, sockets...

And lo and behold, you'll find u can get a decent drill at harbor freight.

Getting horny over dewault and Milwaukee, Bosch, etc is conspicuous consumerism. Y'all just like your name brands.

Its a better tool, but compared to freight drill with a warranty, its not ciest effective.

>nicd battery

Fellow contractorfag, already commented earlier, you should know Hilti is the alpha cordless tool.

If warranty is what you're looking for Ridgid brushless tops everyone, full lifetime warranty on tools and batteries but after burning them up every 6 months they just weren't worth it for me

Totally agree. When idiots think voltage is the end all be all of electricity I love to show them this.

youtube.com/watch?v=6aNm3qWkW8A

That being said I am a hobbyist (not OP btw) and I do have a set of B&D. Namely drill, recipro saw, 10" circular. The newer 20vs have 1.5Ah which is way more than enough for someone who's just basically putting up shelves, replacing cabinetry, other light work. Especially considering I have multple batteries.

I'll stand by B&D as a DIYer, but I also understand it wouldn't be sufficient for a 10-12hr shift.

Ive never seen hilti before.

Is that sold at Lowes? Might have to check that out

imagine doing that shit for 10 to 12 hours
ahahaha
then you fuckin take some retarded pride in it
then come online to shitpost like a 14 year old

They may be available online from Home Depot but typically you go to a supplier. Test what you want to test and buy accordingly

Nice
I've thought about doing that with my old microwave
I saw to the videos from that crazy Brit and his "metal melter"

My dad never bought the best stuff honestly, but when I was about twenty, he told me, never buy black and decker, it's garbage

He had to learn the hard way
I'm not a contractor, I'm an ee
I just like the concept of a good self contained system

Just bought a ryobi last week to replace an older BD and it's way better than it in every way.

I'm sure we all know the drill by now.

Was banging this girl who was talking about her power tools for her crafting shit - B&D

Haven't used black and decker except for the shit from the 70s and 80s my dad had laying around... it was aight

she gets stuck mid project because she's trying to drill a hole through a tree branch she cut down and the drill is no longer turning.

I swing by because i have a 12v milwaukee fuel in the car. She was drilling through a very thick and tough part of the branch and the B&D did not have the torque to get through it. The milwaukee made short work of this obviously.

I i knew B&D was cheap amazon stuff, but I assumed it was somewhat decent because of how long they were around, was kind of surprised how little torque it had.

Oh look -- it's a thread full of tool snobs.

Imagine having skills and finding joy in work youre passionate and rightly proud of, that you love doing, and then make six figures doing it

Kek lol frfr no cap bro

>Is that sold at Lowes? Might have to check that out
you can't afford this

Just bought a ryobi angle grinder for $54 and can't wait to use it. I fucking love my ryobi one gear

Attached: IMG20220425233646.jpg (4000x1800, 1.6M)

why the fuck would any homeowner or DYI person need professional tools. you aren't running them 8 hours a day, also just buy the cheap China batteries off eBay or amazon.

>see ur gunna want an impact drill for this attachment to work properly

lmfao isn't this the bitch ass 'home repair drill" they shill in Hope Depot? This thing has the shittiest fucking battery life of all of my drills, to the point where Makita, Milwaikee, and DeWalt have all outlasted it. And I bought them all before the B&D.

Oh look it's the faggot.

What is this shit

Budget Chinese shit? That's bottom shelf

drill: makita, dewalt
sawzall: milwaukee, dewalt
worm drive circ saw: dewalt
dd circ saw: makita
router hitachi, craftsman
tablesaw: sawstop
bandsaw: 14" laguna
planer: old school rigid
jointer: 8" general international
handplanes: stanley, footprint & home made
wood lathe: craftex

Why would you have so many different platforms?

Black and Decker Pecker Wrecker

Single-use
>Harbor Freight brands
>Chinese brands from Amazon
>Hyper Tough

Good
>Bosch
>Black and Decker/Porter Cable
>Hart
>Kobalt
>Metabo
>Craftsman

Better
>Milwaukee
>Dewalt
>Ryobi
>Ridgid
>Makita

Best
>Hilti
>Festool
>Snap On

Personally I have Milwaukee tools, only Milwaukee tool I have that I don't really like is a brushed-motor hand vacuum.

Deeply considered going with Kobalt because they are blue, but they don't have any work-illuminating LEDs ...

Attached: 1626137008474.jpg (450x450, 31.69K)

You can get battery adapters to and from any brands so it's not lethally stupid to mix brands, just kinda dumb

Attached: 1646136739485.jpg (1500x1431, 131.87K)

I use Kobalt and dewalt at home but just got Milwaukee stuff at work and it kicks ass

That's fair
I've heard about these

Listen to this dude, he know his shit

I don't know about that, but I do use a lot of Milwaukee tools and have never had a reason to try another brand.

Protip: there are four tools you need as a homeowner, even if you never buy any other tools
>standard drill with a brushless motor
>impact driver with torx bits
>one-handed reciprocating saw with demolition blades and metal-cutting blades
>oscillating multi-tool with wood-cutting blades and sanding pad

The oscillating tool comes in especially clutch - I don't use it super often but when I need to use it I REALLY need it. You can get all sorts of wacky attachments for oscillating tools too for making very specific tasks 10x faster.

Attached: 1634387394032.jpg (1000x1000, 48.76K)

I use Dewalt carbide blades in my Milwaukee box cutter. Cuts through cardboard and shit like a hot knife through butter. Over and over.

YOU CAN'T MIX AND MATCH

>single use

Thier tools are warranteed. It'll break, and then be replaced. I'm sure you can spend an outrageous amount of money on a tool that will outlast it, but with a warranty, at that price, its impossible to beat its cost effectiveness.

Its lesser quality, but can be replaced indefinitely, gets the job done right (or u replace it) and is the cheapest initially.

Youre all getting horny over brand names. He doesn't. This is a guy that spends hundreds if not thousands more on his tools than me and freight shit, we'll do the same quality of work according to our respective skills, and I'll return my broken drill every year or so.

Omg I gotta go to harbour freight occasionally to replace a broken drill for free.

Like ya ain't going there anyway for consumables like tape and bits and shit.

>Muh name brand tool makes my work better. You can tell I'm a pro BC my tools cost $3000!

Nope.

Overall cost effectiveness is more important than durability. A factor rendered irrelevant by warranty.

Bosch is better than ryobi and possibly dewalt depending on what you buy. You’re a new fag and do diy

Work for me, bitch lmao

>Overall cost effectiveness is more important than durability

Personally I'd rather spend more on a tool once than have a cheaper tool break in the middle of doing something, even if I get a new one for free

buying a tool BC u like the color is retarded.

Noice.

but look how BLUE it is,,,,,,,,,,,

Attached: 1640467459028.jpg (862x454, 41.94K)

Are you doing this to make money? Its bad business to spend that money on a tool BC u dont want to return it occasionally. HF tools are like half the cost of name brands. Its worth your time.

I carry backups in my truck anyway. The corded drill, impact and drill, spare circ saw, any if those tools breaking isn't shutting the site down.

Your preference of an expensive durable tool, with its fancy brand name stamped all over it, is costing you money in the long run.

Ah fuck youre right my bad

I didn't know we were talking about that much blue

Nope. Voltage truly does translate into torque. See electromagnetics and the right hand rule.

>I'm an ee... self-contained...
God you sound gay.

My time is worth $50/hr and Harbor Freight is 30 minutes away

If I get a Bauer brushless impact driver from HF for $50 and I spend $50 to replace it each time every three years or whatever, I would so much rather have a $150 Milwaukee hydraulic brushless impact driver that lasts all six years

Even if the HF tool lasts six years and I ended up paying $100 more for no reason, that's quibbling over $17 a year and just not worth worrying about

Facts

I agree the difference is fairly insubstantial. My rate is right around that too that's fine. I'm always swinging by Harbor Freight consumables like tape and nits, batteries, I do auto work too and I always need to grab something from there.

Just for the sake of argument, my point, is if it makes sense financially by a slim margin to buy Harbor Freight why are you drawn to these name brands?

I say the advertising campaigns work, the branding works, and it has made you willing to spend more in the long run BC you like your name brand tool

And you're right in suspecting those Harbor Freight brands might last longer than you think. Ive had shockingly good experiences with them

>Milwaukee too. Yeah that's right.
>They're good tools but, have no warranty.
Sorry but actual contractor here. Milwaukee has a 5 year no questions asked warranty on all power tools. I sent my 4.5 year multitool in for repair and they sent me a brand new fucking tool with a letter apologizing they couldn't fix it and giving me another 5 year warranty.
Actual contractors know all the tools are good. Milwaukee batteries are great. Mine are all over 5 years old and still charge just fine. Dewalt lasts 2 years. They fucked me coming out with a fake 20v battery less than a year after I bought my 18v set. Fuck dewalt. Just buy a new set they said.

Oh yeah?

Youre paying for name brand dude.

>I dont feel like returning my drill once every three years. I'd much rather spend twicecas much, and do it every six years.

Swinging by the harbor after work on the way home isn't fucking with your bottom line. Esp when you'll load up in consumables while your there, and save another 30$ in the process. Can't say its a wastes trip

Spending twice as much on a tool than you have to is fucking with that bottom line

I have a hard time buying anything powered from HF, the grinder I got from them is sketchy as fuck. For most hand tools, I follow this escalation principle.
>Borrow it the first time you need it
>Buy it from harbor freight the second time you need it
>If that breaks, buy it from Home depot/Lowe's
>If that breaks, call your snap on guy

Only thing I had get past the home Depot step was some electrical screwdrivers.

Attached: img_1_1650230098028.jpg (692x1535, 91.63K)

And the freight doesn't have a warranty? At half the cost?

Like lol dude do my tools need to cost as much as possible or I'm not an actual contractor?

This is true, I use a 12 volt impact wrench for driving screws. My 18 volt will twist the head off of a general use construction screw at full speed into dougfir.

That's BC u got the bottom shelf guy. My HF grinder has been through hell. Continuous heavy operation, for years. Ive smelled it burning, couldn't hold it the Worm gear got so hot. Still runs perfect years later

>I say the advertising campaigns work, the branding works, and it has made you willing to spend more in the long run BC you like your name brand tool

I don't deny it, you're totally right. Milwaukee markets durability and I've found their tools to be durable so the marketing works on me. I believe other brands are just as durable but I KNOW Milwaukee tools survive drops from ladders since I have dropped them off ladders. Personally I am also pleased from an autistic standpoint that my tools visually match.

I do buy HF tools - if I use them enough to break them, I'll get the Milwaukee version, like the orbital sander I have. If i don't use it often enough, then I didn't pay very much, like the HF leaf blower I have.

I do stock up on HF consumables when I go there, it's like a candy store

Don't get me wrong, it works. I just don't trust that fucker. I'd rather use my brushless Ryobi cut off tool any day, just feels less Chongqingy.

There's is almost no circumstance where anyone should buy one of the mid-level brands. If you're going to use it fairly infrequently, the Hazard Fraught will get the job done, and if your livelihood relies on it, you should probably get the Milwauki or Fap Off. Why would you ever get something like a Bosch or Ryobi? They're almost as shitty as the Horror Fright but they cost more.

I work in a semiconductor fab and our equipment guys legit use HF for a bunch of stuff. Their reasoning? Dipshits keep losing tools so they may as well get cheap ones. (Locking the toolboxes and "5S"ing everything hasn't helped a whole lot.

>Why would you ever get something like a Bosch or Ryobi?
What exactly is wrong with those brands?
