the whole first half of nightclub (which obviously is what mac put the most effort on) is better than anything off cowboy

personally I think his style lends itself really well to a melancholic tone, and there are only a couple songs that I would call bland on HCTC. He definitely has made a lot more bland songs before this album

All pretty good songs. Not his strongest, but not his weakest either. I really don't understand what he was doing with here comes the cowboy and choo choo, though. Most of the songs I listed are better than some of his stuff on Salad Days.

the opening track is probably the worst opening track i have ever heard to an album. even by itself it's absolutely devoid of any direction, transition, progression, growth, etc. I guess if anyone were to make a concept album about "being bored to death", this might fit such a category. Worst Mac Demarco release.

Being a Mac DeMarco fan is more than liking music, it's an identity. There is literally no substance, even on a purely emotive level. You are pretending to enjoy something more than you do (subconsciously) because you don't have a personal identity based on achievements and self actualisation.

Coming from someone who despises the shitstain washed out jangle pop bands that Mac inspired through 2 and Salad Days like boy pablo and yellow days, im glad he made this album cause its a deviation from that sound. Its very chill and I like the stripped back approach. 7/10 you guys are giving it too much hate
