To be fair though, the earth is 4.5 billion years old, and the first life came into being 3.5 billion years ago. So it's not like it took 4 billion years for it to happen. But it's all besides the point. Abiogenesis isn't a part of evolutionary theory. Science doesn't know how life came into existence and they're entertaining everything from a chemical slurry struck by lightning to components coming off-world with a comet or similar. The theory of evolution only applies to the emergence of species after abiogenesis.

The earliest plant is found to be a billion years old and the earliest animals are less than 700 million years old.
So let’s just say you’re right and there were only 500 million years before life existed on earth. It’s still an incredibly long time.
