Yikes is right

>tfw i cant open up a cold brewski with the boys to this album
what went wrong

CHOO

CHOO

it’s actually his best album

don’t worry in 3-5 years you’ll agree :)

funny song, not as funny as the first one though

Attached: Alex.jpg (1200x795, 221K)

title track is retarded

rip mac

it's what happens when the goofball isn't goofy anymore

going emotionally honest was the worst thing he ever did to his career

it has a few good songs but he definitely needs to change things up a bit. his songwriting style is just bland and overdone now. I can listen to 10 seconds and immediately know how the entire song will sound

i like the country and funk bits but yeah its too ingrained in his old and played out style

youtube.com/watch?v=D5oPoLE2baU

bruhs....wtf is this shit?

salad days are over

I thought this was some kind of fucking joke song when I heard his coachella set. i didn't expect it to be a legitimate album, track

His music was never all that goofy outside of perhaps Rock n Roll Nightclub.

WHY THE FUCK DOES EVERYONE GET THIS LYRICS WRONG

>tfw gonna be 26 this year and feel myself on the verge of being washed up like mac

feels bad bros

Funky as fuck. Standout track T B H

Why do you think you're washed up? Are you fat and balding?

i think they're generally commenting on the fact that its an end of an era. mac had a good run

I think it was suppose to sound like Lennon plastic ono band shit, but failed horribly.

I'm receding a little and not fat but I've just noticed a huge drop in energy/ creativity/ motivation for anything the past year or so. feels like i'm on a downward trajectory. but I'm trying as hard as I can to keep afloat

i really like the live version of all of our yesterdays

mac should just go all out upbeat 80s pop

Honestly good, should've improvised a little on the licks to make it fresher tho

Coulda been a solid two minute jam, as far as novelty songs go

does this mean there wont be anymore qts at his shows?

This. It's a really cool track, but a bit dull. Could have easily made it more interesting. Still not bad though.

IT'S SO FUCKING BORING

Fuck you I liked it.

my cute n sexy 18 year old redhead cousin still listens to him

one time at a family gathering a said "play passing out pieces!" and ever since she constantly flirts with me

Mac isn't well mentally and it shows

there will always be qts requesting viceroy unit the end of his career but this album will definately attract more dadrock boomers

>kind of want to see mac before we lose him
>everytime he has a gig here its at an indoor reserved seating venue
I feel like Mac would be best in an outdoor environment on a summer night. His agent needs to stop downplaying what kinda show we want here. Even a summer festival set would be cool. Hour and a half of Mac seems like the perfect amount, 2 hours would be too much.

you should fuck your cousin dude

Feels like he's going a bit hard on the masonic imagery for On The Square, no?

Attached: mac demarco.jpg (1275x709, 40K)

trust me. I really want to

More like the ripping off primus music videos-ery

and mac isn't?

I think it's inspired by this song, I remember him saying he was a fan of Hosono and this album in particular in an interview a few years ago
youtube.com/watch?v=hcxaJFCiqsc

8/10 It's easy find a lot of value in his lyricism and approach to this album for me. I think it sounds good too

yes

what interview?

YOU COULD HAVE IT ALL

*inhales*

why do pitchfork always eat their own?

>CHOO CHOO

man it's crazy how it seems like yesterday when he released salad days as an up and coming energetic kid and pitchfork had that whole featured piece on him with the doco.
where does time go bros

Attached: 1446164461245.jpg (645x773, 80K)

whats doco?

youtube.com/watch?v=JStLz_vkEm8

degenerate scumbag.

youtube.com/watch?v=JStLz_vkEm8

Idk I've been following him and his music since 2014 or so, i like the album it definitely isn't as upbeat or energetic as the last but I do like it. He's older now and maybe wants to move on from his old wacky goofball persona

ripping off primus is cringe.

I won't fundamentally disagree, but why?

hes horny for his family member bro

mac got too big for his own good. he would have been much better off just having a smaller niche audience

fucking your cousin is fine just don't breed with them

And i fucking wasted money on the vinyl release but i kinda liked it in a strange way might be a sort of pil debut album thing

He’s such a fucking weeaboo. The last track of the album has a train recording stopping at Nakameguro in Tokyo too, super cringe

White culture is so fascinating

It’s the liberal way

kill whitey

This guy just seems fake, sorry but I dont want this soft "BEDROOM POP" shit about how youre so sad.

Attached: 1557112997185.jpg (497x521, 33K)

It's great, but Choo Choo feels random and misplaced even with the added context of the album's outro.

>mac should just go all out upbeat 80s pop
then he'd just be Benny Sings.

only Choo Choo and Here Comes the Cowboy are boring.

Why are people hating this
it's fine
where the fuck were all these pretentious assholes in his last albums that sounded exactly the same.

Attached: 1526651753716.jpg (1024x1024, 86K)

that posture right there
that's the main culprit behind his bald spot
tension on his scalp from his neck muscles flexing to hold his fucking head up
cigs probably don't help either

Album is chill

I used to laugh at the "Mac is a freemason" meme but now it's... weird

>Chamber of Reflection being a masonic reference
>Having masonic numbers littered in the this old dog and makeout videotape covers
>His grandfather was a mason
>Wearing a hoodie that says "masonic team" on it
>Someone asking him if he's a mason and him saying "Ha, I wish"

Mmm

the only good thing he has done recently is the song with The Garden

Mac bro, just take it easy - Chill on the music stuff, take a year of two off man. You are kinda looking shit but it's all good. I wish you the best brother and take care!

Attached: twiabpnerds.jpg (658x503, 53K)

I liked the album. It still has that hazy, slightly trippy aesthetic that gives Mac's music his charm but the songwriting is really good

Attached: 1483915875994.jpg (600x600, 33K)

OMG SO LE RANDOM XD

True but his image was way too marketable. In a very similar fashion to 'grunge'

What album exactly?

He’s the Alex Calder poster

Yikes indeed. Singles were good but album is bad.

More like Here Comes the Cringe lmao

Eh I dunno. 2nd cousin maybe, but first? That's a bit iffy. Also, depends on the age difference.

nobody, finally alone, preoccupied, heart to heart, all of your yesterdays, and baby bye bye are literally all amazing tracks, and the rest of the album isn’t too far behind. I seriously don’t understand the reception so far, this is some of the most unique and genuine stuff Mac has ever made

this

Vee Vee

adding on to this, this album reminds me a lot of 90s lo-fi albums but with good production. I think if people look at it more with that lens they’ll enjoy it more. preoccupied sounds like the modern equivalent of one foot in the grave era beck and it’s brilliant

I loved nobody, not a huge mac fan but couldn't stop listening to that song. Really hit me because of recent happenings in my life. That being said its the single good song on the album. It's so fucking boring.

fuck everything else

Attached: Screenshot_20190510-094615.png (1312x2560, 810K)

Aha i get it. Alex his latest album is as good, if bot better than Macs new album. Im really bummed that he dropped off of the face of the planet

I really don't get all the hate, it's pretty solid. If you honestly think the tracks are boring I shudder to imagine what you guys think of the rest of his discography. He's been doing this kind of laid back stuff his entire career. If anything this album is just a better version of This Old Dog, which was a bit of a clumsy transition to the new higher production style that appears on this album. His songwriting is a lot more diverse here, he's actually innovating which is saying a lot for an indie slacker rock icon like Mac. Choo Choo is obviously just some James Brown imitation and you know what? it's not that bad. Even the title track, which is admittedly pretty dull compared to the rest of the album, can be thought of as a bit of a take on american primitivism which imo gives it the intrigue that it lacks on the surface.

This album will grow on a lot of you.

Depression is fucking normal, normie. Doesn't stop just because you arent a moody teen anymore. Make your PHYSICAL world amazing, despite your sadness

Do mushrooms

Not entirely, more the fanbase that gets carried away with his wacky shtick. The music is better than primus though, what fucking dated corny nerdy garbage that is

I do respect him for it though. He’s pretty switched on, runs his own label, has a pool, cute gf and friends with kiko

Because at least the title track wasn't the same line repeated fucking over and over again

I'm just gonna go listen to Salad Days instead

Attached: Capture2.png (392x391, 123K)

post her

Salad Days, 2, Another One, RNRNC

All classics. Perhaps we've heard his best stuff and it's never gonna be like that again.

Ha. It was.

Mac DeMarco is an overrated hack thatbis Vampire Weekend tier bad. Seriously, gtfo Yea Forums if you've unironically enjoyed ANY of his "albums"

>Pleb

mid life crisis album. not just a huge downer but incredibly slow & boring as fuck

Yeah, that's true. Saw him once at a small club when he was touring on salad days, and once at a summer festival on a farm while he was touring on Another One. Both were good, but the outdoor festival format was definitely a better fit for his show.

I like it

K, anytime it feels as though my love has gone away
K, settle down, turn around, and take this song, and let it play

It sounds like he started making each song for 30 seconds and then ran out of ideas so he just loops a sound bite for 3 minutes

I always wondered if that's why he seemed to blow up more than similar indie artists that no one knows about.

Fuck yes, muh nigga.
I like when he's playing music with some energy, and doesn't use his goofy John Lennon vocals. Excellent use of his skills in that song.

he's been emotionally honest since rock n roll night club, you fucking walnut.

Does anyone feel like Mac just doesn't give a shit on this album? Not in a sellout way or a cool edgy way, but just like he's given up. The songwriting and singing just sound like his hearts not in it at all anymore.

>he listens to Mac Demarco past the age of 19

Attached: 1528664199438.jpg (434x345, 50K)

sounds kinda boring. finally alone was a highlight

heart to heart is the observatory theme from majoras mask i think

Please stop shilling this pseudoscience
Baldness has a range of factors, and in Mac's case it's most likely genetic (MPB) compounded by smoking and potentially stress
Posture-induced scalp tension does not play a roll based on current understandings of baldness
mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/hair-loss/symptoms-causes/syc-20372926

Mac Demarco was never good: he has always made substantively empty "chill" music for Urban Outfitters kiddies with a similarly empty "ironic" veneer. this album is just his latest poor attempt. hopefully now people will stop talking about him and move on to actually interesting and challenging music

how's high school going

Not sure what you're on about...I'm in grad school. Liking Mac is distinctively high school though

caring about what other people like is pretty high school

depends on your reasons for caring, I suppose. helping people identify shitty music / art and find better stuff is good imo. why do you think art criticism exists?

I think he says Salad Days are over on the second verse?
“Salad Days Are Over
Chip Upon My Shoulder”

All I know is that I won't be putting this on for smoke seshes with the boys

Worst album he's put out, 5/10, 6 in a pinch

On the Square and Baby Bye Bye were nice tho

You're allowed to like it, I enjoyed it well enough, but don't pretend this is unique for him

This whole album retreads sounds and moods he's covered before, but it's lesser than what came before

God the masons are so gay

Is it weird that I enjoy this album in a sorta fucked up manner. Like, this album is a pure product of a mind that surely is deteriorating, especially considering how shit Mac looks these days. Not even gonna mention his recent interviews, which are simply hard to read. In a way, this makes it so much more depressing and that's exactly what I like about it.
Even typing this felt so fucking wrong but I just can't help but enjoy it.

yeah but that song is actually good tho

he started the genre of all these gay indie posers nowadays that completely butchered his sound. thats why he blew up

it's "as im getting older"

I'm not jumping on the train that it's amazing or terrible. It's somewhere in the middle, pretty bland and repetitive but some nice moments here and there

6/10

Gr8 b8 m8

honestly I'm a pretty big fan of Mac's stuff but this is probably his weakest album yet. like other people are saying, has some good moments but for the most part it sounds like a less inspired version of his last album.

best song: Heart to Heart
worst song: Choo Choo

6.5/10

youtube.com/watch?v=KkzgXiPAuOM

lmao Mac DeMarco fans get rekt

it's good album. it's great instrumentally, really cool guitar playing and chord progressions and production. minimalistic songwriting (not a bad thing, i think it fits the songs really well)

its one of the only good songs on the album

>minimalistic songwriting
that's a funny way to spell "lazy"

i really don't think it's out of laziness. the more repetitive structure of a lot of the songs (choo choo, here comes the cowboy, preoccupied) is obviously meant to be meditative. people are just upset that there's no "hits" on this album but that clearly wasn't the intention

The only worthwhile tracks are the three singles. Those are the only songs that are imbued with any real sense of passion or emotion. The album suffers from being so stripped down and barebones that it comes across as incredibly low effort to the point where it is insulting at certain points. "Nobody" manages to string it together well enough with the rising and falling synths, and the simple, relatable, and reflective lyrics. The opening track is totally pointless. "Finally alone" is one of few tracks with any energy, despite sounding like a "This Old Dog" B-side that got left off the album. The only other slightly worthwhile non-single is "Preoccupied," which again is low-effort but has the lazy charm of an Animal Crossing song (raining, probably) lightened up with the bird sounds. "Choo Choo" is offensively bad and reminds me of suddenly coming across a Mike Love track on a Brian Wilson-dominated Beach Boys album. "Hey Cowgirl" sounds so far from being genuine or believable, a stark contrast to Mac's usually earnest affect. Its tale of a cowgirl in modern times is a tale of love that didn't happen to Mac or anybody that Mac has ever known. The steadily marching piano and eery synth of "On The Square" evokes feelings of carrying on day-to-day in a slightly unfamiliar world that makes you feel emotionally or psychologically isolated. "All of Our Yesterdays" seems like the old Mac Demarco shining through briefly, as we get a relatively passionate and well-written song with instrumentation that isn't overly sparse. The closing track wanders around aimlessly, despite providing some flourishes of energy desperately needed earlier on in the album. The track fades out before Mac returns to scream and yelp at the listener for a couple minutes, leaving you feeling as if your mugger just came back to kick your teeth in as you were lying bloodied by the side of the road.

4.5/10

Still his best.

he's not wrong though

no hits does not make bad album. maybe if you're a retarD!
half critics say that he's just doing the same thing over and over again, over half just wish that he made 2 or salad days again.
he actually made something interesting with this album, it just doesn't fit pitchfork-indie formula

jesus christ lol

i truly hate mac demarco fans

>he actually made something interesting with this album
this album is the opposite of interesting. it's sounds like B sides for Another One/This Old Dog, just rehashing the same shtick that he's had for the past 5+ years

well another one is a bad album and this old dog (good album) sounds completely different musically and production wise

this guy is disgusting.

>Mac DeMarco fans pretending that his albums sound distinctive from one another in any way
*sigh* this meme again
Please explain to me the vast difference between the two albums

what's to explain? pick literally any track from each album and compare. say "My Old Man" and "Preoccupied". my old man: dense production, double tracked vocals, somewhat uptempo. preoccupied: super dry sounding production, laid back, acoustic guitar barely there, electric guitar riffs like that don't show up on this old dog.

what variation would have made you had happy? should he make IDM?

why is this cunt saying Mac Day-marco? horrible annoying little turd

the only good part of this album is when he starts screaming like a maniac at the end

based

rock and roll nightclub>2>salad days>here comes the cowboy

anything not listed is bad

i like it. its quite strange...if he released this first he wouldnt be were he is now thats for sure.
total pleb filter

I have no idea. I'm not a big Mac DeMarco fan, but I've listened to most of his tracks at least one time around and this album doesn't really sound different then what he's made before aside from the title track being some sort of strange but intentional joke.
His music videos don't really vibe with who he presents himself as, but they're still interesting I suppose. On The Square is so great though. It has such a poignant sound

>releases psuedo-pleb filter to weed out the retards that populate his fanbase
baste

sounds like a low budget porno

how can you compare a 90’s classic to this art hoe shit

>I, a music conneseuir, only listen to challenging music
Art criticism exists, but that's all it is, subjective criticism. To act like his music is objectively shit and you need to save people's ears or something is high school as fuck.

based and redpilled

Damn. This shit actually kinda slaps.

>That gong

We need the true savior to return

I used to love Mac but if I saw him today I'd honestly try to kill him just to put him out of his misery. He's like an old sick dog that you can't stand to see hurt any longer.

He hates being the goofball but that's all he's got and he has to keep playing the character to maintain a living. His career, the one chance of him following his dream of being a real musician, is a completely embarrassing disaster. He has a failing liver, his bitch gf walks all over him and the fact she's cuckolding him is all but confirmed. He's balding.

I think he'd kill himself if not for cigarettes, but with his. I'd just tell him I'm sorry and put a bullet in the back of his head

>This old dog

Trash taste, On the Level alone makes it a 10/10 album

Based

Hoping for a full album next, instead of an EP

Seek help

cope

This... eventually his friends leave too

Honestly Mac moving into a production-only focus sounds like the best possible move. While his live shows are fun and all, if it's destroying him on the inside then it's 100% not worth it. Heck look how his current state of mind has turned this album into a complete unfocused mess.
Also he needs to get his band more involved in the production process to figure out accentuations and stuff that'd work well.

He consistently wrote well crafted pop songs up through This Old Dog. This album is a lull. He needs a break.

The This Old Dog Demos were good
Honey Moon was good

How did this album happen

This album is just so god damn boring 4/10

The day the goofy died

If old dog is a 7 what is this
I havent heard it yet but didn't like the single I heard

an 8 that we wont realize or respect for months and maybe possibly years later.

I swear this retarded meme is spouted off with every irrelevant, underwhelming, shitty album of the past 5 years.

when his next album comes out certain aspects of this lp will make more sense, you have my word.

100% right, this is by far his best album yet. despite this though, i think it'll actually act as a transitional record in the grand scheme of his discog, with nu-Mac finally emerging in his next record

It only had like 3 shitty songs I liked it

Attached: IMG_20190510_231312.jpg (1440x733, 102K)

>best album

Nigga, you really think this is better than 2, Salad days AND this old dog?

maybe not salad days (not because of objective "good"ness just i prefer it more), but miles better than 2 and a fair bit better than this old dog. if this old dog sounded more like my old man/this old dog and less like still beating and one another it would've been much better

lol

yeah,
at least it's fucking different from the "ton of vibrato and reverb sad indie" bands out there.

but This Old Dog sounds more complete, HCTC sounds like he just made the songs on the spot.

I love mac and his vocals on this but most of the bland production is killing me. I get that maybe hes tired of his old sound and effects and the copycats over the years so going stripped down makes sense. But still, the highs on this album arent that high and theres a few songs on here i personally feel are his worst ever.

This the nigga telling me to have sex

see HCtCB genuinely sounded lazy half the time, it all could've been salvaged if it had more instrumentation instead of a monotone guitar and Mac sounding like he was staring at a wall for 12 hours straight while singing

Repetition and vamps are perfectly fine and many of Mac's songs are repetitive, these are just plain lazy and boring. It has nothing to do with being laid back or repetitive. My Old Man is repetitive but it's better than most songs on this snoozefest.

ConnectiKEK degenerates.

the production insanely flat

Gonna agree. Lackin.

jesus that dude is insufferable

if you didn't like Nobody then I can safely say you are retarded and nothing else really matters

I used to think Mac was overhated and overall was a harmless charming little songwriter. The more I hear of him, weather it’s his old stuff or new the more I just feel fucking tired.

that Mac demarco score is waaaaay too high, that is pretty funny :')

it's not minimalism if it's drenched in production tricks to hide the awful songwriting

>drenched in production tricks
what album did you listen to lol? that's not at all what i said.

a Mac DeMarco album. this one was a little better than the others, but they're all absolute trash

and you described it as minimalistic, which it isn't. soaking guitar sounds in reverb because you can't think of anything good to write is the opposite of minimalism.

This album is literally a conceptual album expressing the absolute opposite that is the White Man versus the Indigenous American peoples by naming itself the opposite of Animal Collective's ever loved "Here Comes the Indian". He purposely made it boring and bland to reflect the personalities of wh*toids.

you don't know what you're talking about lol name one song with a guitar sound "soaked" in reverb. this is distinctly the driest and subtlest mac demarco album in terms of reverb and other effects.

Kek he covered a song from a Bancamp artist? I knew Mac hung out on BC but wow dude.

dave-roland.bandcamp.com/track/nobody-2

>this is distinctly the driest and subtlest mac demarco album in terms of reverb and other effects.

yes, which draws more attention to his awful songwriting. what about his music is minimalist, particularly in comparison to other artists who are similarly popular?

>you don't know what you're talking about
you're very close to understanding the targeted marketing of an inartistic persona that has worked very effectively on you, but still so far away

>dave-roland.bandcamp.com/track/nobody-2
good luck with your life goals retard

>drenched in production tricks to hide the awful songwriting
>draws more attention to his awful songwriting
i'm being joked with
i didn't say "his music" was minimalistic relative to other artists
relative to his other albums this one is obviously more minimalistic in a number of ways
>targeted marketing
i don't fall for targeted marketing i have a high standardized test scores

Bl*cks looking for reasons to bash white culture is even more interesting

i can barely tell a mac album apart anymore.

>trap beats with 80s synthesizers

Attached: 1555223236901.png (500x375, 285K)

I'm reminded of why I left this fucking shithole. The vast majority of you are truly retarded, it makes sense that his fanbase is so shitty.

This is the best record he's done since Salad Days. You really can't be helped if you're still yearning for 2013~ Mac Demarco.

Nice projection, bud. Album is a dud.

I think the Another One EP is the best thing he's ever done.
This is just lazy garbage.

lel were you the one freestyling to Blue Boy the only time I've seen this dude live?

Nobody, Finally Alone, Preoccupied, Heart to Heart, Hey Cowgirl, On the Square, Baby Bye Bye are all fantastic songs and honestly the rest of the album holds up despite the clearly challenging Choo Choo and opener.

What's your stupid take on it? Too minimalist? Too "memey"? Not "memey" enough? Pls, say literally anything of substance.

Album is not bad, but 5.5/10 is the most that I could give it
I guess this was supposed to be a "feels" album, but I can hardly feel any substance in it
Everything instrument is so bland and repetitive, every song is written almost like he didn't give a fuck
There are only like 2 memorable songs on this album, the rest is listen&forget
If this album was the representation of Mac's feels and his life, then he did a great job at describing it by music, but besides that, I don't see any reasons for listening to this album.

I like it

another one is trash

lol

Stop shilling your own channel, faggot.

Mac DeMarco is undoubtedly enigmatic and has been an influence in indie music since the late oughts. His brand has been so ripped off, repackaged and re-marketed that it's easy to think this. This new sound he has is isolating the audience you're referencing and on purpose. Though it's not likely he will fade from relevance as he's nearly mastered creating pleasantly off kilter pop early on. He'll probably go on to be remembered as the Brian Wilson of his time.

I like it, people are way too fucking serious l, Jesus.
Choo Choo is based and short, people act like it's a 12 minute cringe fest
