electric funeral is relatively weak
>a perfect album
Yes
>The perfect album
No
Maybe if the songwriting was better and the title track was more than a radio friendly rock and roll song
shit take
There really isn't a single weak moment on it imo. One of the best rock albums ever
Nah. Last half is pretty boring
>songwriting
It's about the jams and Iommi being a god not songwriting
No, this is.
no because Rat Salad obviously
>the title track was more than a radio friendly rock and roll song
the label made them add Paranoid and rename the album
it was supposed to be titled War Pigs, hence the pink fencers
this is how i felt when I was a teenager so I understand your take.
Is that supposed to change the fact that the track is on the album
I think he means that it wasn't the band's intention to have that song on the album and it can be listened without it. It's like how Deftones were forced to reissue White Pony with Back to School even though the band knew it was a shitty idea and wasn't really a part of the album.
it's a great song though
I mean yeah obviously thats not why anybody listens to Black Sabbath but fuck you cant deny how perfect it would be if the songwriting was just a bit biter
This and Master of Reality always make me cream my pants
Y'know if I squint a little, it kind of looks like a cartoon piggy looking to the back left. You see?
electric funeral is a banger tho
I understand what youre saying bro but the reality of the situation is that Paranoid is on the album and it should be assessed that way.
paranoid is a great song though. simple songs can be great
Its not the simplicity of the track that makes it a detriment to the album. It the fact that it sticks out in a bad way. It's a straight rock and roll track that lacks the characteristics permeating all the other songs on the album. Characteristics such as: groove, comping, jam style drumming, and guitar tone. It's got a bad case of not belonging.
it's short enough not to outstay its welcome though, and the fast pace, dark lyrics, catchiness make it blend in and add to the album in a positive way. like a very good piece of filler
I guess we just have a difference in preference. I can see what youre saying tho. I do love the tone of the solo and wish that sound was explored more. The song also foreshadows a lot of how Sabbath came to sound starting around Sabotage which is interesting that the seed lasted so long before it bloomed in their music. I wonder what pushed them in that direction now that im thinking about it... Im pretty high man I love black Sabbath. They're my favorite band
Although its music is of course the central content, the album as a form entails other non-musical content, in particular the album cover. And despite being musically excellent, Paranoid's hideous cover prevents the album-as-complete-package from being 10+/10 perfect.
I struggle to think of another example of an album where the quality of the music is so high, and the quality of the album cover so low.
>Iommi
>being a guitar god
pick one
youtu.be
I'll jump in, for being Sabbath's most recognized track, it really doesn't represent the band well
GENERALS GATHERED IN THEIR MASSSEEEEEEEESSSSSSSS
I LIKE BITCHES WITH FAT ASSESSSSSSSSSSSSSSS
Talking Heads - Talking Heads: 77 (inspired by your digits)
honestly it's only bad if you look really close at it. otherwise it looks like it could be a drawing or some kinda interesting lo-fi shit
it was just still in a psyche era, people probably would just be confused if the cover was a bunch of generals standing over a map or whatever
There's more to playing the guitar than just shredding user
This, the guy wrote some incredibly catchy, if simple, riffs, and established an entire new way of playing the guitar with a style that was so distinctive it spawned it's own genre (doom metal)
He's responsible for stoner metal as well. Master of Reality, particularly Lord of This World is basically what every generic stoner band wishes they could write
WAH WAH WAHWAHWAHHHHH WAH WAHWAHWAH
this unironically changed my mind
Paranoid's cover is great what are you talking about.
>FX
It is my favorite Sabbath album though.
man electric funeral was the song that got me into this album, and the song that made me buy a wah wah pedal
>Listening to Black Sabbath in 2019
lmao
No love for Planet Caravan? It's probably my favorite song on the album, either that or War Pigs
I agree completely
Before actually looking closer at the album art I assumed the orange/pink thing was some sort of samurai looking monster (because of the blades)
what a terrible opinion
any love for Mercury Rev's cover version? There is a better quality version on their Peel Sessions album
b a s e d
*ahem*
I used to think that was a Metroid on the cover.
it's clearly a demoknight user
This is a great post, sometimes I think about this and the importance of the album as a complete package.
When I was younger I thought Paranoid's cover had some sort of blurred, mechanical heart and that it wonderfully fitted the album's mood. Took me some years to realize, upon closer inspection, it was a silly clothed knight. I still think the slight surrealness of the cover fits the album's mood, but I preferred my initial perception of it.
easily the best Sabbath album, so it's up there. Master of Reality is probably more influential from a modern point of view, but it's nowhere near as solid as Paranoid as an album
probably you could improve it still by swapping out a track or two - maybe the title track, Rat Salad or Fairies Wear Boots
>not liking Fairies Wear Boots
Great album, one of the best
I'd argue THIS is the perfect album.
AYYYEEE-AAHHHHHHHHHH

Fuck I can't not think of this now when seeing the cover
theyre supposed to be in pig suits but all isee is a triple exposure of men with swords
Not even the best BÖC album
BASED, one of the only BOC albums that is good from start to finish.
AND I'M BURNING I'M BURNING I'M BURNING FOR YOU
