Cause it was the thing to do in 1997

It's a catchy album. Rob Thomas was cute (no homo).
They battled against feminists over their song Push and that boosted them up a bit.

I unironically enjoy this album and still listen to it from time to time.

it was 97. 14 million seemed small.

>Torres claimed the band never asked for his permission to use his image on the sleeve. In the litigation, Torres claimed the photo was taken as he was walking down the street after being asked to pose. He also claimed the photo had caused him mental anguish.

Poor guy

NPCs

You would think he would see some royalties for being the album art.

>mental anguish
The only "mental anguish" was from not getting any money from it. Greedy fat fuck thought he actually had something to do with the album's success. It would have sold well regardless of what the album art looked like.

>Torres claimed the photo was taken as he was walking down the street after being asked to pose.
Who would believe this?

they probably liked how it sounded/were fans. those are the usual reasons for buying an album, OP

>Why?

Zoomer here

I've never heard of it, is it worth a listen

Ugly af desu

no

Yeah, it's pure '90s radio rock kino. I still listen to Real World from time to time.

>I WONDER WHAT IT'S LIKE TO BE THE HEAD HONCHO
>I WONDER WHAT I'D DO IF THEY ALL DID JUST WHAT I SAAAAAY

Because it had Danny DeVito on the cover

if you don't remember ever hearing Matchbox 20 or Rob Thomas on the radio you are literally underaged.
t. born in '99

hello hello he-

>I still listen to Real World from time to time.
Fuck yeah, user.
Real World is fucking great.
>if you don't remember ever hearing Matchbox 20 or Rob Thomas on the radio you are literally underaged.
This. How could you have never heard Smooth or Unwell?

>Their best album is their debut album
That's gotta be pretty rough, right?

This album is literally my guilty pleasure

>This album is literally my guilty pleasure
Based.

This band and Creed are my guilty pleasures.

Because the record companies promoted it like crazy and spent millions pushing the songs at radio and on MTV. Plus Rob Thomas is very very good looking. And the music is acceptable.

What more does there need to be?

What's shocking to me is they didn't put a picture of Rob on the cover. Would have doubled the sales if they did.

>What's shocking to me is they didn't put a picture of Rob on the cover. Would have doubled the sales if they did.
Yeah, it's pretty weird that they just had a picture of some old guy on it.

because it was all over radio and mtv and bridged the gap between alt rock + top 40 + mom-core

my mom likes it

A challenger approaches!

goo goo dolls were just bootleg paul westerberg

This was the CD that was in the car my dad gave me. Before you think I'm some spoiled teenager, it was a 2007 Saturn, and that was the last time I ever saw my dad. So this album will always have some sentimental value to me, especially the first track.

Holy shit this song is actually really good.

have you never heard this before? this song was everywhere back in the day. not as much as 3 am or push, but still.

the video was pretty good too

Back 2 Good fucking rules don't sleep

Man the post-grunge era was a complete wasteland for decent or better rock bands doing well commercially.

>Man the post-grunge era was a complete wasteland for decent or better rock bands doing well commercially.
I mean yeah. After '97 or so even the established alt bands were flopping commercially and labels sure as hell weren't signing anyone decent, mostly just teenyboppers and hip-hop acts, with a few SoCal "ska-pop-punk" type groups (Sugar Ray, Smash Mouth, that whole ska revival thing) or Hot Adult Contemporary-core "alternative-lite" pop rock (Matchbox 20) on the side. Well that and literal buttrock tier shit (Limp Bizkit, ICP, Hoobastank)

Dude, how can you just lump Limp Bizkit in with that other shit?
Only just had Significant Other cranking just yesterday.

I mean Limp Bizkit could at least write memorable songs. Which is more than you could say about a lot of them.

Real World is a better pop rock song than most bands could ever write so they sold more albums than most bands, it's fair

is that fronk zappo

>have you never heard this before?
Nah, I never got to listen to the radio when I was younger. My dad was always making us listen to Lynyrd Skynyrd.

That's Ringo Starr you absolute fucking mong

I saw the guitarist for this band live last week. The opening act was better.

Rob Thomas has a comforting voice.

>Rob Thomas has a comforting voice.
He really does. Anyone else here really like Little Wonders?

I consider it underrated along with Hang and Shame.

Third Eye Blind was good
Our Lady Peace was good
Some good pop punk & ska like Less Than Jake, Blink-182 & Lit
Some of these one hit wonder bands like Harvey Danger, Semisonic, Souldecision and Marcy Playground actually had decent albums that are worth hearing for the deep cuts
Sugar Ray was unironically probably a top 20 singles band of the 90s but yeah their albums were shit

>real world comes on radio
Fuck, it was era of comfy tunes. We'll never have simple comfy tunes on radio anymore.

Attached: nightwalk feel.png (507x540, 64K)

>Sugar Ray was unironically probably a top 20 singles band
They had some good shit: Fly, Every Morning, When it's Over, Someday, Falls Apart,

BUT I'M NOT CRAZY, I'M JUST A LITTLE UNWELL

don't know but the cover is great actually

Unironically a pretty nice cover

New Radicals too. They were comfy as fuck.

ITS 3AM I MUST BE LONELY

Sorry for hijacking this nice little thread you guys have going, but I have a question.
Were these guys treated unfairly due to the spiritual themes in some of their songs?

Attached: 1547306267042.jpg (500x500, 63K)

The singles were hits
In the 90s people still bought music

listen to the singles

I think so, people made a really big deal out of it.
History has been particularly unkind to them, it's silly how people will still pretend they're one of the worst bands ever when so many far worse post-grunge bands came after them in the 00s. In a world where Theory of a Deadman and Puddle of Mudd exist people act like Creed is the lowest of the low.

Because Rob Thomas was sexy and they had some fucking bangers. Gabe newell appearing on the cover was also a big turning point from the band

Absolutely not- Creed has three or four hits and the rest is fucking terrible

Theory of a Deadman is the Hopsin of buttrock

the album is much better than the next one

>Were these guys treated unfairly due to the spiritual themes in some of their songs?
It's all I hear about when people mention them.
"Ew, they were a Christian band!"

I really like Human Clay
Weathered did kinda suck, though.

Creed and Nickelback both get too much shit from people.
I don't know why since they're nowhere close to being the worst rock bands.

I remember a time of hearing Sum 41 on the radio everyday and thats a time I dont want to go back to

All the right reasons was actually a good album idk why they took the heat as worst band either

Supernatural killed any credibility Santana had left

where is her ass
