If you have insurance and an ER visit is deemed an actual emergency your insurance is obligated to cover the costs. Plenty of people just odont pay as well. You are not allowed to be refused treatment which in my mind you shouldnt be obligated to pay.

Sounds like the usual "if you have an accident, the insurance will cover it" thing, we have here as well. But that usually still costs you.
But we pay indirectly with taxes and everything is free even if its just preventive.

We had that discussion here when the railways went from gov. owned over to private. And the prices are creeping up while things are not really improving.
And likewise with the crappy copper internet we have here. A company got that from the gov and they kept it till today because upgrading costs money. Thats why we still deal with that. Fixing things like that costs a lot and takes decades.
