As to why Korean/Japanese are viewed more favorably, it comes back to the cultural aspect.
There's nothing interesting about modern Chinese culture. It's just blatant knock off of IPs from other countries, and the negative image of the CCP (whether they like their gov or not). Western countries like China for the cheap labor, but that's not exactly a front-facing influence.
