Hendrix was exalted to the skies by an "oh-so-countercultural" clique that yearned for their hippy saviour, regardless of his actual musical ability. In fact, they were fascinated by shocking noisy tricks and stage gimmicks that he borrowed from free jazz avant-gardists of the time, not by his compositions or musicmanship. Hendrix the myth filled a niche of an anti-establishment ideal in belief system of your average dope head of the early 70's. Hendrix the man was a decent pop musician at his best, with a natural talent for improvisation and a distinctive flair for showmanship. Don't tell me about Hendrix's " guitar innovations", nobody gives a damn about fuzz pedals and feedback in our time, nobody copies his "technique" (or rather his deliberate disregard of any consistent technique). Advanced chord shapes/voicing? But jazz players did them in a more convincing and complex manner. Plus, he didn't even accomplish most of what he said he will because he died.
the who?
did you guys know that Hendrix was once invited to play with Cream alongside Eric Clapton. In the middle of the show, Clapton walked off stage. He was found in the back shaking angrily and smoking a cigarette. When asked what was wrong, he replied, "You never told me he was black."
what a crook, glad he jumped off a building
