Good artists have struggled with mental illness since always. Mozart and Da Vinci were aspergers as fuck, but that more or less led to them using it to their advantage into creating their art. Not saying that it's a requirement, but to bring new interpretations of things and ideas to the world, a different perspective is usually required.

You're talking about anxiety (the actual mental problem, not just general anxiety which everyone feels at times) as if it just means that the person is jumpy and constantly "on alert" for something that's not there. I don't see how things like legitimate panic attacks (real ones, not the ones where girls take the time to grab their phone and take a selfie when they're upset to get pity points) can be explained away as a remnant of early human evolution; those definitely will not help you keep safe from lions.
