I think it was Modern warfare 2, when something inside of me died. I no longer got the same joy playing through a new game. I could count with one hand the amount of times in the last decade I got a game on its launch and was somewhat excited. It's mostly nostalgia. Subspace Emissary sucks to playthrough but those cutscenes to this day are mwah! something to cherished. Like fuck man, if World of Light had those cutscenes people probably wouldn't shit on it the way they should on Subspace.

When I was 25. Assassin's Creed had just released and I was pretty excited about it, but not nearly as excited as I used to get for a cool new game. I played it for a few hours and then put it down for several days before coming back and forcing myself to play it some more since I had already blown $60 on it. That's when I realized that games didn't have the same magic that they used to for me.

I feel the unveil trailers for newcomers in Smash 4 and Ultimate were the replacement for SSE cutscenes. The total running time for them are similar to all of the cutscenes for SSE.

I am probably one of the few that actually really liked World of Light.

I never understood it either. It was the first Mario game where I decided that 100%ing it wasn't worth it and couldn't wait to defeat Bowser and finish game when I was getting close to the end. Easily one of the most overrated games I have ever played.

Probably early 2010s. I remember hearing about Minecraft and decided to poke around a bit but it wasn't for me. Which was weird because I'd spent hundreds of hours in Gmod for years at that point building random bullshit, you'd figure that was transferable. My nephews were crazy into it though, it reminded me of pokemania when I was young.
Then there's streamer/youtuber culture and everything around that. People watching some dumbass screeching at a horror game or what some Japanese girl using a moving anime avatar is doing is relatively harmless on its own but then it infects everything like /mlp/, threads derailed because some vtuber is playing the game or just happens to be going through some random offtopic drama while playing the game, and discussion of any video game must only be derived through the gospel according to some dipshit making a 2 hour video for a 2 minute idea.

Although honestly probably even before that, I had a SNES when it was the "current" console, and by the time we got to the PS2 and Gamecube I really wasn't into modern JRPGs that much anymore outside of occasionally dabbling in Pokemon, remakes of older Final Fantasies and stuff that played like older games like Etrian Odyssey or Dragon Quest.
Beyond the usual zoomercore stuff, I just don't have the fucking patience for cinematic games, where there's extensive gameplay segments of just walking through an area, maybe watching them sidle through a narrow space or labor through opening a door, all while an NPC companion spouts dumb dialogue. I actually legit kept falling asleep playing God of War and Last of Us. Thankfully there's still a lot of stuff these days that's very gameplay focused and not cutscene/fake gameplay-heavy, from the big publishers down to the indies.

I also can't do battle royales. Too much downtime. Just throw me in a team deathmatch.

I don't like World of Light that much but I do appreciate the effort they put into the spirit fights. The ways they manage to cleverly reference the spirit you were fighting against really is something worthy of praise. More than 1000 of the fuckers and they actually hit the mark. Even those you're unfamiliar with would take a simple Google or search on YouTube and you'd understand why the fight was made how it was.
Master Hand should've been unlockable though for 100%'ing that shit.

The spirits were definitely underrated, and I liked the subtle references as well. For example, for the Dion, Max, and Jack spirit, the music track that plays is the one Four Swords Adventures track in Ultimate. FSA very early in development was actually going to be a sequel to Marvelous (the game those characters originally came from).

As for your spoiler, I have no idea why that did not come to pass. It should at the very least been added as a DLC extra, and it would not have barely utilized any development resources. Just give the option to revisit that event.

Sunshine's great if you're just playing through it and not trying to 100%.
The second you think about completing it all of the joy gets sucked through your asshole and you're left feeling empty and frustrated because all you get is a fucking postcard.

I'm not sure what your point is here, "sexual acceptance bad" because some people can use it to justify abuse or doing unethical things? Practically any 'just cause' in history can be used and has been used as a mask for all kinds of bullshit.
