My cousin is one. From what I hear, even asking this question is the first step to becoming one. At least if you're Christian-leaning and it helps if you're white. But more than that I don't know.

All my male family members were tradesman and free masons.
It’s mostly about doing community service, but also doing whatever you can to help others succeed. So if a guy in your lodge is an electrician…if you need and electrician it’s a really good idea to use him if you can.

Quite a few lodges have special days like St. Pattys day/ corn beef and cabbage etc..again proceeds usually go to some charity.
