Doesn't it feel a bit...dead? Like I get more immersion from Skyrim and it's not even about dying, I played for like 5 hours and died a couple of times but idk it just feels lifeless
Doesn't it feel a bit...dead? Like I get more immersion from Skyrim and it's not even about dying...
There is so much it feel over whelming
im gonna skip this and hold out for starfield.
So much what?
Well, OP, have you ever thought about maybe just.. getting good? Yes, crazy concept, I know. If you just git gud and not complain on Yea Forums about a video game, maybe then you would find the game to be a bit less lifeless.
the world is incredibly immersive, but the lore isnt spelled out for you or shoved down your throat in boring ass cinematic cutscenes
role-play wise, it’s one of the most immersive games i’ve played since Skyrim first came out
space
Getting good at what, immersion? The game just feels dead even compared to Skyrim
Because there's not many npcs. Games great. you are a retarded nigger for finding it lifeless
The game simply seems to lose its open-world value as you continue to find and fight through the same catacombs and caves with the same layouts and mobs for mediocre rewards and a summon that you're definitely not going use to over mimic. In most cases as well, these mini areas use the same bosses or a gank with 2 previous bosses you have already fought.
The game is basically quantity over quality, fight me
i'm stuck at like 5 spots and i either have to just tediously grind to level up or keep searching around aimlessly for better equipment. it was truly great up until now. also i'm not fond of the overabundance of ashes of war, it's usually the only reward from optional bosses and idgaf about that aspect of combat. i'll never use them
It's a lot of dead space without any real impact besides a non-factor enemy or two and an item you have a 90% chance to not care about post 5-10 hours. For a company that cannot stop themselves from recycling souls you'd think they'd actual bother putting a fair amount of souls into their overworld, and you'd be wrong.
At least BOTW had shit referencing the franchise all over the overworld in a setting that's supposed to feel somewhat empty due to mass destruction. Shrines, Temples, statues, monuments, famous locations, gravesites, it had a lot outside of the villages and towns that really rewarded the "comb all the map" players who bothered to.
You can REALLY tell this is From's first time doing open world as opposed to Breath of the Wild which stems from a series that began as an open world series in '87 and evolved into more tropey action adventure by Ocarina. Elden Ring has little of the above. It's a good overworld for beauty, size and acceptable quality. But oh yeah the Nintendies to get to laud their title as the one with decisively more quality.
And as a result of the above, it can be hard to get immersed into such a world. I agree OP, Skyrim is better for immersion even unmodded. You're just a dead guy with a paper thin identity attached to predetermined stats and moves in Elden Ring. Limiting myself to just Bethesda, you get more fleshing out of character from New Vegas without anything the DLC adds. New Vegas, a game made in 18 months.
Honestly this.
First 1/3 of the game I thought was amazing, new enemies, new bosses, all sorts of hidden caves and catacombs, new weapons all around, new concepts (towers with entry "puzzles", finally getting mount, trap chests that teleport you to the other side of the map).
After a while though you start to understand that they used up most of the novelty in the beggining - optional bosses are mostly the same, enemies are mostly the same, dungeons/caves are pretty much copy pasted.
You got a new weapon? Great, you won't even try it of course, since for it to be even mildly effective you've got to upgrade it, and you only have enough smithing stones to upgrade a few weapons without grinding.
Got a new spell? Great, they're pretty much all objectively weaker than the ones you got at the very start of the game!
I mean honestly, I'm nearing the end and I'm just kind of trying to sprint through it. The only thing that's new now are the actual areas, and even they are filled with the same enemies as before,
not to mention the spike in difficulty that happens, leaving you with literally no chance to try out new weapons or anything, and bosses having one hit KO combos even though my vitality is ~37.
It's with great sadness that i Inform all of you, that Seethezeetach has just reviewed elden ring
Well another game added to the long list of red flag games, sad, thank god earthbound remained unscathed from you nazi fucks
I got no clue what the fuck you're saying dude
>get gud
The zoomie zoomer autist response to everything. Instead of just exploring the gaming environment, finding secrets exploiting bugs making choices actually affecting the game, every game is now turned into a bullet hell rhythm game mess where the one with the monkey brain able to react the fastest to what's on screen and remember the longest pattern of actions is the gud one. You think you are some kind of big brain prodigy for clicking fast and remembering patterns but you are just like a monkey in a lab or the frog slamming digital flies with his tongue on a tablet in exchange for some serotonin and some poggers emotes
You are a good lil monkey zoomer fag now go watch seethezeetach cracking some jokes about the severed babies in Ukraine
Seethezeetach the Yea Forums faggot who reviews oldschool games and talks like the average pompous Yea Forums faggot.
Empty space. ER is a boring and shit game.
Based.
Souls players are the worst bunch.
Instead of putting useful knowledge inside your brain, you memorize some retarded patterns from a pc game and call it skill.
Literally any other game where you have to use improvization and strategic thinking is much more impressive.

Uuum no there is no such mode in souls game
Problem with dark souls and the indisputable proof of them not being rpgs is there is no vivec equivalent no hub no nothing there is only one mode to this game and that's
>make progress
>new area
>stall
>adapt to new enemy or return to area later
Which is what makes the game so addicting but also not amenable to any other kind of playthrough. When I was 12 I remember scheduling my morrowind playthrough depending on my free time. "it's Saturday I ll visit that big ziggurat place since I ll be able to spend 5 hours on the computer."
zelda, dmc and silent hill is crap
That's has nothing to do with the list or the games. the games are in the list because a group of people who happen to share certain ideas play them Planescape torment and fallout 2 are practically unplayblable but they are still played and lauded by this same crowd of people
In souls games, the areas/locations are pretty big with shortcuts hidden around the map, therefore rewarding the player for exploration. You don't need a mode to explore the world. Especially in elden ring where it's an open world game and you can kind of go almost anywhere you want to.
I think one thing you're kind of missing out on are the variety of builds. In elden ring fromsoft really improved on how effective different builds are and have sort of made all late game builds op which is nice compared to the heavy strength/dex meta found throughout the souls games.
I think there's a clarification needed for the world feeling dead and not immersive. I do agree but I don't necessarily see them as negatives.
About the the world feeling dead and lifeless, I think that's fine because the world isn't about you. It's not packed with quests and interactions past combat because ultimately you are a hunted-down minority in a far-off land. You're not going to find many allies, let alone neutral parties in your journey. Most of the enemies are enemies for good reason. And if it was also packed with more enemies, I feel it would just get overwhelming and boring.
And as for immersion, ultimately it's a personal thing. Not everyone can get as immersed in a world with so few and far between choices when compared to basically any other RPG.
But not being immersed doesn't mean you still can't enjoy learning about the world and its inhabitants and history or the game's mechanics and huge variety of builds and choices. Other RPGs definitely do have a leg up in terms of dynamic events and dialogues and whatnot, but I don't think that's something Elden Ring necessarily needed to fill it's players with a sense of awe multiple times throughout the game.
For me, I enjoyed the game all the way through. But I also didn't play like a retard. I recognized that there were repeated bosses and similar dungeons and just chose to skip over them. Because ultimately it's an open world game that doesn't force me to go into every single dungeon. I'm lookin at some of you in this thread. I've always enjoyed the feeling of isolation throughout From's games and the massive world amplified that to one-hundred this time around. I said "Okay this has to be the last area at the end of the game" at least three separate times before I beat the game and I was pleasantly surprised each time when it wasn't. And that was really something I've never felt before and I'm excited for more.
deadness/loneliness/the world has moved on is incredibly kino
it's got the best classic Zelda/Metroid feel of any game I've played in 10 years
And just as a follow up point, fuck all of you complaining about the repeated bosses. This game has a bigger world and more bosses than any of the previous games in Fromsoft's library. I bet if the game dropped with less dungeons that all had unique bosses, you'd be eating this shit up. But oh no it's bad because they reused some. Even though the reused ones are still unique in one way or another, with new moves or a friend. You can't fight any of the 'repeated' bosses identically. So just saying they're just reused is pretty disingenuous.
Either way the fact of the matter is that the world isn't designed for 100 percenters who comb through the world looking for each catacomb and gaol and dungeon. It's designed for normal people who miss a bunch of stuff. Most people don't find every single permutation of watchdog or crucible knight and the few they find are different from each other. Honestly a bad point to criticize a game like this for.
The beginning is a little simpler. It get's better and bigger really fast
The first playthrough is amazing, but it has zero replayability value in my opinion. Either NG+ but it's nothing new, or a new character but you have to refind all the key items like maps, smithing stone, equipments by farming copy-pasted dungeon like those fking catacombs or mines.
8/10
How would you recommend this game to someone with a few thousand hours in Skyrim? The majority of the time played with lore friendly, combat and graphics enhancing mods
Playability on the second run does suffer a bit, but I finished the game at around 90-100 hours. Took my time, had fun, etc. They'll probably release DLC later down the line so I'd definitely revisit again.
Faggot casual
Combat is definitely more punishing and will take some getting used to, but it's not really like the enemies become total bullet sponges late game like in Skyrim. I also feel like the combat has a lot more depth compared to skyrim as well. Making your character build is different i.e. no skills, only stat points and the weapons you find throughout the game have their damage influenced by how many stat points you put into a certain stat. Also don't expect lore to be handed to you since you kind of have to infer a lot based on item descriptions and the somewhat few dialogue lines you get in elden ring. In my opinion, elden ring is a great introduction to Fromsoft games as they've made it a lot more attractive to the non-soulsborne gaming population. Definitely worth checking out. If you end up liking elden ring, there's a good chance you'll like the dark souls series as well if you can handle the slightly older graphics and gameplay differences.
It's a very different experience, Skyrim is more about being immersed into tamriel, doing a lot of quest/dungeons and random encounters (and maybe combats with mods but it's always a mess/unbalanced as shit). in Elden Ring you can spend time exploring but you get virtually little to no rewards doing it (unlike skyrim with the xp system), elden ring is more about testing builds, trying weapons/spells and progressing. It's way more close to Dark Soul than it is to Skyrim.
Bro anyone who's patient and has motor skills above a toddler has been able to play for longer than 5 hours and they know this is bait. Anyone who's genuinely interested won't listen to this, but genuine reviews. What's the point beyond just being salty?
Oh look, it's this thread again.
the from software sauce was watered down with elden ring thats why i skipped it
Gonna have to disagree with you there. If anything, they added more depth to build customization and added in some pretty difficult bosses.
This
The world isn't meant to be brimming with NPC's to talk to
Awesome game. Play it nonstop on my PS5. Should be in everyone's library.40vjk
>the world isn't designed for 100 percenters who comb through the world looking for each catacomb and gaol and dungeon.
This. And this is what I like about these games. They genuinely don't give a fuck if you miss anything and in fact it is designed that way. It feels much more satisfying and rewarding to find things out. The mechanics aren't fully explained, the U.I isn't even fully explained. NPC's are fun to bump into when you've seen then in other places and it all culminates into something that feels organic.
The combat is more about how every weapon has a different moveset and they take into account that maybe bringing this fat ass halberd into a narrow cave or hallway wasn't a good idea.
cringiest post i've read in months
Aw did someone cripple himself by only using the op mimic and now he's upset? :(
Every game has something that's "the best". Using it exclusively will always cheapen the experience. You did that to yourself.
I'm having a fuckin blast trying out different summons. Banished Knight Oleg is a fucking menace.
right it's supposed to be a ''slice of life'' play style where you explore and find new things along the way and every playthrough should feel different you find new items and quests and it feels like a different game when you play it. Like maybe you do just head in a different direction and just keep going and explore the world and it's an entirely new experience.
which is how they developed the game to be played.
but speed runners and autists are gonna do what they gonna do I guess.
Finally beat it last night. new favorite souls game hands down. In fact, it's now in my top 3 fav games of all time
most of these games play like shit, I dont think from knows the difference between variety and just adding a thousand copies of essentially the same boss
I preferred DS3
this game is a tech demo of some shitty breath of the wild knock of that is probably getting worked on
It's basically a PS2 game with modern graphics and I mean that in the best way.
The fuck do you mean? Skyrim is the most generic boring ass fantasy world ever. This one has so much more to it and what's there is far more interesting and stylized.
I take it you're just walking around in fuckin Limgrave too scared of the bosses to progress...
It lacks soul.
You didn't even kill the turtle pope yet a nd you're already calling the game lifeless fuck u
zzzzzz
Outside of superb combat Dark Souls and Elden Ring are just a shitting esoteric dialoge simulator with a bunch of weebos on the net claiming lore = story. Elden Ring definately suffers from being open world, taking the rails off just reveals the constantly muted and bland color pallet, reskinned enemies, and lack of actual content.
