Lupe Fiasco and whatever gangsta rapper is big
Left: Talib Kweli
Right: Dem Franchise Boys
Show had an MF DOOM song in 1 the episodes
Huey: MF Doom
Riley: 50 Cent
>while DOOM does possess great lyrical skill, he fails to utilize his platform to promote social change.
Common and Clipse.
probably tylo be chillin
Gangstalicious, Thugnificent, Lethal Interjection
yfw even fictional rappers are better than the current mumble rap garbage
>rappers like Thugnificent and Gangstalicious only contribute to the popularization of harmful cultural norms within the black community. they’re less a celebration of blackness than they are contagious expressions of a thought virus.
Huey: De La Soul, Freddie Gibbs, Kendrick Lamr
Riley: Lil Wayne, 22 Savage, Gucci Mane
>kendrick is just a capitalist repackaging of ‘conscious rap’ which dilutes its message in order to be sold to white college kids
death grips
bethoven, chopin and mozart

Every character is pretty much a satirization of some aspect of black culture. Huey is this conspiracy theorist radical Socialist who's constantly suspicious of the government and white people. Riley is this kid constantly fetishizing crime and the "thug life" despite his rather good upbringing. Grandpa is the boomer generation who participated in the civil rights era but is alienated from the modern generation and is pretty conservative. Ruckus is Ruckus. Hueys mixed friend is the mixed kid who grew up only around white people and is insecure that white people will never view them as one of them. Her parents () try to help blacks but cant because they dont actually understand what they want.
You could probably pick out any character and notice some part of the black community McGruder is making fun of
Brother Ali and Thugger
it’s pretty clear that macgruder self inserts as huey
THATS A LOT OF NUTS
Macgruder's self-insert in the comic was Caesar.
Only on DAMN
Huey was an arrogant paranoid freak who forgets to have fun
I never understood this comic. It seems out of character for Ironman and Batman to be racially hostile.
the characters are very similar
There is literally an episode about him getting to meet and serve Jimmy (Johnny) Rebel. It ends with them making an album together.
wow, genius analysis, did you come up with this yourself?
This was true until I think the third season or late 2nd season when they started exploring his character and exposed his flaws
>Ruckus is Ruckus.
Ruckus is clearly commentary for conservative blacks who fall in line with republican views. He’s just a caricature of right wing black people who disagree with Farrakhan or Malcolm x
> Hueys mixed friend is the mixed kid who grew up only around white people and is insecure that white people will never view them as one of them.
Jasmine literally never seeks white peoples approval, she acts like a child constantly in the show, I think to contrast Huey’s cynicism
Not sure if you're the same guy as before. But. Are you being sarcastic lmao holy shit did you watch the show at all. All this shit is incredibly obvious if you watch the show
I hope not. That's retarded
>Not noticing obvious sarcasm
She's not really insecure about her blackness, it's more that she doesn't understand anything about her black identity. She's so sheltered and just naive about the real injustices in the world. Also Uncle Rucus is literally an Uncle Tom, that's all you had to say dude lol. Hes literally if an Uncle Tom slave walked off a plantation in 1858 and stepped into our time.
I mean, your comment is retarded and doesn't make sense. "Wow did you come up with that all yourself?" Like probably not but hes explaining the show to someone who hasn't seen it. You're a dumb dumb
good digis
Eh I think you're kinda misrepresenting Jasmine. She was raised mixed and doesnt really try to be attached to her black identity. She can get embarrassed of her black features and even offended when Huey points out that she's black to him. I wouldn't say she ever feels alienated from white people, actually it's the complete opposite. Huey constantly harasses her for it and is typically shown as kinda an asshole
david allen coe
i wasn't being sarcastic i was complementing him/you or what ever
