Osb is stronger than plywood in shear. Shear values, through its thickness, are about 2 times greater than plywood. This is one of the reasons osb is used for webs of wooden I-joists.

not all houses look like that. in my state we have insane houses made of adobe and stucko.

alot of older buildings are brick where I live (whidbey island)
wood is just an easier material to work with
and if youve ever had to do major work to a brick building (my experience is in AVL, so running cable and hanging speakers/projectors)
