If you aren't naturally gifted don't bother

go to the guitar general
>t. retard with no ambition

I-is this the reality of the situation?

play it more and differently

just keep practicing and learning more and more songs that you like

Scales

rocksmith is actually pretty good to overcome newbie difficulties

1. Find something you want to be able to play on guitar that is currently too hard to play
2. Work hard to be able to play it perfectly with good technique but at a slower tempo
3. Gradually increase your tempo as you practice it until you can play it at the desired tempo or faster
4. Repeat

If you’re not disciplined enough to follow this cycle you can pay a private teacher to force you to do it and probably show you a few minor tricks and mental shortcuts to make the process somewhat more efficient.

Why do people act like this is rocket science?

is it too late for me if i'm 23?

Yes

Nah being motivated to practice (ie having fun doing it) and having something concrete to work on all the time is the most important

no retard

Robert Fripp was tone deaf when he started

no
you were never going to be great anyway, so it's actually better that you have something to blame being mediocre on

sell your soul

this is the cope that anons with zero creativity use
Focus on what you're good at and know your roots.
That's literally all you need to do. Practice at least 20 minutes a day. Aim for an hour a day.
Watch justin guitar on youtube and go through his instructional courses.

haven't you heard that guitar is over user

no

pleb who only listens to shitty mainstream music

nothing screams "i'm bad at guitar" like telling other people it's too late for them to start playing.
Misery loves company.

meant to reply to , the person who said that guitar is over, i would never tell someone that it's too late to start learning guitar

That thread is terrible and isn't about playing guitar.

OP, it depends on what you want to play. Even great guitarists play one or maybe two styles and that's it. In general I recommend learning to sing and play chords at the same time. It attracts girls, it will get you to understand song structure and chord progressions and its really fun. Once you get a couple songs down you'll realize you can look at any chord + lyrics sheet and play and sing the song in a couple minutes. For me this is endlessly entertaining.

Second, play along with records. Whatever your listening to, have your guitar and play along. You'll suck at first but when you get good all kinds of things will open up for you and it'll train your ear. You can use some scales for this but that's not even the most important thing. Mainly you just need to do it and keep doing it. Listen, find the root note and the fourth will be a string above that and the fifth will be a string below that (except between the b and g string of course) and try to hear the chord progression and hit those 1 4 and 5 notes at the right time in your improvising.

He also had no sense of rhythm iirc

projectionfags kill yourselves
we're gonna make it, faggot

So I know the way, and honestly I think anyone can learn but there's a catch. I play guitar and the only reason I know how was that I became autistically fascinated by it when I was 11. So my parents bought me a guitar and a literally had it in my hands fucking around trying to replicate songs on the radio every waking second of my life for like 6 years. I even brought the damn thing into the bathroom when I took a shit.
If you have the attitude of 'oh hey maybe I'll give learning guitar a shot in my spare time' it probably won't happen for you.

>I even brought the damn thing into the bathroom when I took a shit.
If you've never done this before, you will never make it

Why do you guys feel so competitive about playing guitar? No one on here is ever going to make it big with their music, and if they are it's because they get incredibly lucky, has nothing to do with their talent. Treat it like any other hobby.

because continuing a hobby you're shit at is fucking pathetic and deserves mockery

$500 strymon pedal

who takes a shit longer than 5min

vegans

personally i want to be at the very least a better guitarist than anyone i know

>he only takes 5 minutes to take a shit
fucking shitlets lmao

that's the most insecure thing i've heard all day

>t. Never got good at anything

I'm not sure if society as it is right at this moment has the conditions necessary for one to get better at the guitar.

Elaborate

Damn. Too deep.

is that why Steve Howe is so good at guitar?

Same reasons why CalArts ruined animation as a medium. Everybody loves themselves and loves love too much to create a thing where real ideas are being bounced around. People would rather sound flaccid than outright bad, and there's no room to discover anything because of it.
