Everyone says the issue with indie rock is that rock music has become non aggressive and weak but I think a much more deep problem is how understated and low key it’s become. Underground rock since it’s very conception has been chasing a more cerebral alternative introverted crowd, the complaint that it became to emotional or wussy makes no sense, what really concerns me is how dead it sounds. This is a song about loneliness and boredom but where’s the dread? Where the core and force behind it. Everyone seems to love to blame nirvana for making rock winey and sad but the only reason that type of music got any radioplay whatsoever is because Kurt Colbian band grunge in general understud that a song should grab you. But I listen to music like Ops song, Boy Pablo, Snail Mail even retroactively Mac Demarco (who I used to like) and its all background music. To me the finally nail in the coffin of rock is that all the aggressive experimental music is happening in the electronic scene now

And now to continue my autistic rant that’s another thing I hate about our current zeitgeist. The fetishization of being ‘chill’. Out seeing obsession as a generation with being as understated and quiet as possible. I don’t mean to sound like an alarmist but I seriously concerns me because I worry if on some physiological level we will turn out more incapable of expressing ourselves in bizzare and essentric ways. Not even repression persay, just the ability to willfully draw attention to yourself and embrace strangeness. The nerds and hipsters of the world have been fully integrated, and now we have all these displaced peoples in a dead zone and often using the internet heavily to acomidate this. I’m not actually angry though just over thinking everything tonight. And I don’t think we’re doomed or whatever. In fact I find with a lot of disaffected youth there’s an obsession with catstophy and collapse which is also a problem. I just want to better understand and integrate what informs the world veiw of us doomers
