Tfw rock music becomes event less relevant by the year

>tfw rock music becomes event less relevant by the year
>tfw don't enjoy any of the new, dominant styles of music like trap and EDM

Any other rockfags feeling alienated because of this? I feel like such a dinosaur. Meeting people my age into rock is becoming harder and harder.

Ya just gotta look

Attached: cover.jpg (1185x1200, 386K)

don’t base your social relationships on music and also there’s so much old music you haven’t listened to that could potentially be your favorite music so don’t feel sad, just keep listening

Hank Wood rules. I know there's lots of good new rock music, its just the community around it is shrinking more and more

some of us are just doomed to be old souls. i feel your pain and have a very hard time talking to people my age, because of it.

Now you know how country, jazz and blues fans have felt since the 60s,

Ahhh, I hear you man. It's just one more thing I can't connect with people on. But I've been solitary for so long, my view is probably horribly skewed. The music I hear blaring out of cars when I go out walking makes me wanna kill myself with a brick.

I mean country has been experiencing a resurgence. Not even just bro-country, since there's been that big wave of pretty successful outlaw revivalists like Sturgill Simpson.

>tfw black friends call me white for listening to delta blues
>tfw jewish friend calls me white for listening to delta blues while he listens to midwest emo
it all confuses me

Just expand your tastes, new music is good

I've given newer styles a chance but they just don't appeal to me. Maybe something new will come along that I'll like just as much as rock, but at the moment guitar music is what appeals to me.

What genre of rock is you're favorite, to make it easier to recommend something?

Punk. Mainly 70s punk, 80s hardcore, and post-punk.

no way Nick is actually this poor right?
from running the internet's largest indie podcast? tell me this is larp.

Rock died the moment Vampire Weekend released their debut album in 2008. It was on its death bed for years before that. Soulless hipster vagina music, all of it. Yes, metal included. Sorry Deafheaven fans but your hipstercore meme band would have been laughed out of existence back in the 80s and 90s.

Nobody in 2019 listens to rock in the same way that nobody listens to elevator music. It is now associated with the forgettable filler music you hear in movie trailers and YouTube ads for car insurance. Modern rock music literally has less soul and rebellious energy than SoundCloud rap.

Oh well, RIP. Shouldn't have let U2 define the sound of the genre. They're really the worst rock band of all time, not Nickelback.

Attached: 879cc06e.jpg (648x324, 47K)

Its from 2011, when he was a drunk struggling to make it in comedy

Some more modern shit is great though. Hank Wood, as mentioned before. Deftones are fucking fantastic and rock hard as fuck. Sun Araw has psych rock down pat. Queens of the Stone Age are fucking fantastic too. Baroness is good metal too. Ratatat is some primo instrumental shit. Midnight Ghost Train is good too.
I dunno, I'm kinda glad it's gone back underground. Fuck normalfaggots, now only the truly passionate will be making shit, limp wristed bedroom indie not withstanding.

this was posted by a hip hop label intern

This is such a stupid post. VW were nothing more than Paul Simon imitators with a handful of hits. Plenty of other good (indie) rock came out that year and after.

Also U2 really the worst band of all time when they put out some genuinely good material in the 80s and early 90s regardless of Bono being a prick and how bad the later stuff was? Not their fault everyone aped their sound. You're a dunce.

Nice thread my cum brother.

You are wrong tho, rock music is still very popular and relevant. King gizzard and the lizard wizard is very popular and so is mgmt. People who are into trap and edm specifically are stuck in 2014 or whenever that dogshit was popular. Trap is on the way out for sure.

there are zero rock bands today with attitude. you only need to look at an image of the members and you can tell they got no balls

...

King Gizz aren't even that popular tho

Stop reading pitchfork and listen to more music:
sunwatchers.bandcamp.com/

If you really care so much, find the people around you who are into rock/guitar music and fucking cultivate your local scene. Hang out and talk about music, start bands, put out music, go to shows, support artists you like. Stop bitching and start doing.

Just listened to few songs from all of them before you replied.
Mainly uninteresting, forgettable and without personality. Always been the case when I've checked out one of these new bands.

If you can't do it better than the old ones don't bother.

>mgmt
>rock
Pick one

the electric guitar doesn't sound good

>using the phrase EDM
I thought this was the music board why are you using this meme phrase

Attached: 1526659226632.jpg (850x565, 97K)

Well, I guess we just disagree. Feiticeira by Deftones is dark and smooth as hell, Love is a Cold White Tile by Hank Wood perfectly captures a worthless lonely relationship, Foxhole by Midnight Ghost Train is heavy as fuck and Beat Cop by Sun Araw is like a world music sampler on DMT.
But, we can agree to disagree.

I turn 23 in two days and that pic is literally how I'll be spending it.

how the fuck do I end this

have you ever been to australia? they are very popular

>blocks your path

Attached: iceage.jpg (1654x1065, 243K)

If you think king Gizzard and mgmt are popular and “relevant” you are severely deluded

all the ones you listed passed their prime over a decade ago

>mgmt
not rock

aaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

Attached: 1556059667956.jpg (538x610, 25K)

you fool, it was over when you turned 21

except hank wood i mean

I actually dig beat cop a whole lot but I would never use it in an argument for rock’s continued relevance

Relevance is a fair point, but my argument was more that really good stuff is still being made. Not as recently as I thought though, I guess.
24 yrs old and I already feel outta touch.

I don't get this. How can people only like a narrow amount of genres? Maybe you are only looking through what is popular? I like music from all sorts of genres but you dont have to limit yourself to what is out now either. Also, why is it important to find people with similar music taste? Isn't listening to music about self enjoyment? I have never met someone who has a wide taste in music like me and that is ok. Just enjoy yourself user even if it means that you can't force yourself to like trap or whatever.

A lot of people find themselves in situations where they're essentially forced to listen to pop radio, either at work or in social situations or whatever. It feels really alienating when everyone around you is into it, but you're just getting autistically frustrated and can't focus on anything else.

"Relevance" is dictated largely by music crits, who have shunned rock, especially the independent variety, for pop and mainstream rap. Thems the breaks.

the shit that comes on pop radio recently is so forgettable and annoying it's actually insane. It's no one wonder normies I encounter either don't care about music or only listen to extremely popular bands.

>Sturgill Simpson

Except for the fact that his music just plain old sucks and he is a faggot. Same with Cody Jinks. Totally overrated. Chris Stapleton and Jamey Johnson piss all over both of them.

its 2019 dude music critics dont determine shit anymore, at least not in terms of like, whats actually popular

>its 2019 dude music critics dont determine shit anymore, at least not in terms of like, whats actually popular
In the mainstream no, but among the more alt-normie college crowd yeah. People still eat up whatever pitchfork or noisey or whatever tells them too.

>there are zero rock bands today with attitude.

Is attitude considered cool, though? I kinda don't think it is. I think attitude is considered try-hard and deliberately trying to be edgy. Note: this is about rock; not rap.

>not realizing that not having attitude IS an attitude
Literally everything is posturing. People forgetting this is why modern guitar bands are shite. It's not edgy or cringe if it's done well

800,000 monthly listeners on spotify, that’s pretty significant

Tame Impala have nearly 9 million monthly listeners and they're currently 317th most listened to artist on spotify worldwide atm

Lol. Sturgill Is hands better than those guys. Saw him live and it blew my damn man. He's the real fucking deal

And they aren't rock anymore lol

WIENER DOG

Attached: norway-tonsberg-july-12-2017-the-swedish-punk-band-viagra-boys-performs-KT7RXJ[1].jpg (1300x956, 123K)

I wonder how long it will take for Mulldog to finally kill himself

> not realizing that its the record companies who hand pick or create bands and decide for the masses what's considered cool

They also have some bloggers and music critics on their payroll. "Hey, write an article about X"

none of those bands are new tho

yet none of those bands can make good music regardless of how they act or come off as

when was kevin parker considered a rock band again?

this

Exactly. Attitude don't mean shit if the music ain't any good.

Try listening to Ratatat's collaborations with Kid Cudi, he's an amazing artist once you 'get' his voice

attitude influences the music

>tfw rock music becomes event less relevant by the year
Has been incorrect since Tame Impala and Mac Demarco started becoming popular.
And some argue that EDM is hitting a wall because I no longer hear anything like Trance, techno, etc anymore. It's all electro/big room now with some dubstep and drum n bass.

I think live performances are taking over because records aren't selling. That said, spotify is catching on.

But indie is still being played, metal gigs are packed and alt rock is reemerging.
I think this thread is nothing but hot air.

Rock has simply gone back to where it was with alternative rock.
Rap artists seem to be mixing in that crowd too in reaction to the meme rap/ trap crap.

Underground EDM is becoming a thing too. I have heard rumours of large raves in my area because they can't take licensed venues faggotry.

>Midnight Ghost Train
Never thought I'd hear that name on Yea Forums.
None of those bands are new though.

It can, yeah, but that doesn't contradict my post either.

Why not post good rock music of the past 3 years to show OP that we care?

This

Rock is dead. And all the subgenres of it are dead too

White people only listen to rap now. White girls are gonna fuck all these black guys, getting knocked up by them, and create a bunch of Logic clones (the reality is there not gonna look like Logic, there gonna look disgusting, ugly mutts, but whatever) running around. The top white guys are gonna procreate, but their grandchildren are still gonna procreate with a bunch of darkies and mutts. The remaining white guys are either gonna racemix (aka, picking up the scraps) with asian, spic, negro women, and create another mutts, and the remaining white incels are gonna kills themselves, thus ending all the rock, goth, punk, emo, metal, all the white genes.

You will not see any of these genres coming back because there's not gonna be any white people for it to listen to. All the mutts are going to create something new, the next step of music. Something with the mix of spics and nigger culture. Some muttcore.

damn that shit sucks lool rather listen to hip hop then a bunch of buttrockers whine on and some women yodel

Do that, it's your choice :)

sadly this

i was kidding about the hip hop im listening to dir en grey instead

>trap
>stuck in 2014
oh boy

That music sounds quite angry, user. Are you okay?

Yeah it sucks that some communities have shrunk down exponentially, but great music is still being made in those genres

...

>rock

racism and sexism are alive and well, I see...

I wasn't ever into rock nor do I care about EDM, Hip Hop or about talking about music with other people 'my age' like a redditor

Wow your friends sound retarded.

I keep posting this in these threads so I have to make it more concise. It should have been a copypasta because I definitively prove it wrong.
>one direction/Harry styles
Soft/pop rock. Biggest act in the world, or one of the top 20 surely
>ed Sheeran
Guitar playing pop soft rock guy. Huge
>post Malone
Singer larping as a rapper who acts like rockstar and does rock at his shows. One of the top acts in the world right now.
>lil Peep
One of the top SoundCloud rappers before he even died. Made weird rap rock hybrid. Pop punk emo songs with trap drums
>Tame Impala
Biggest band amongst alt normies
>Arctic Monkeys
Ditto
>1975
same
>XXXtentacion
Only got respect from musicheads due to this "he play gatar". Broadened his appeal much more beyond basic sc rap. His diversity is what made him
>panic/brendon Uris
Huge pop/emo rock act.
>paramore
Still huge.
White people still want rock it's just the industry only promotes rap/EDM right now.

I also missed GHOST which is huge. GVF who are making waves. These are all nostalgia acts. Stuff like Volbeat and FFDP which is big in flyover states.

youll grow out of limiting your musical tastes if you're lucky

Nothing about what Paramore or Panic at the Disco are doing nowadays can be considered emo rock or pop rock. It's pop all the way through.

I do base my relationships on music. People who inhale shit exhale shit.

EBM is making a comeback

Attached: nitzer_ebb_logo_sq_400x400.jpg (400x400, 23K)

It genuinely is, though. Most trap artists, especially popular ones, are just copying what's been done on SoundCloud since like 2013 and 2014. At this point, it just became popular to make its life longer.

rock isn't white music

rock was based off of old blues music made by blacks idiot

Eh, desu Rock had a very long streak. It's a format you can exploit only so much until it becomes a bit stale. I now consider it as a platform to deliver a story, nothing more. There's only so much innovation it can take. Also, the music industry has purposefully moved towards simpler, easy to make stuff. It took a few years, but now young people is dumb enough to not be able to appreciate something complex. And god, rock is not even complex, so imagine the absolute state of todays young minds. However, take it as fringe hobby/taste. Who gives a fuck, if you like it, you like it. It's not making a comeback or anything, that's for sure. It will be a niche market and harder to get into than before. I'm a 7 gazillion year old boomer, have been in rock bands most of my adult life and I have personally seen the decline of popularity of the industry as a whole. Only dinosaur bands can make decent money, and even then only touring. It is what it is, we're waiting for the brand new thing I guess. And not, the trash that fills todays spotify streams are not it. It is also a reflection of cultural decay, look around you and look at your peers: what artform can come out from such a state of affairs?

Having said this, there is a lot of what I consider "good rock music" being made right now, it is simply not popular, that's it. One last thing: Young bands starting out, sounding good and getting some attention... you look at the singer, and then look at their gfs. I swear to god, a couple decades earlier being in a rock band was guaranteed to get you female attention, now I see young guys, singers, with fatties all the time. The thots are all into trap and weird, low quality shit atm. that's the state we're in.

Aren't whites also based on prehistoric African emigrants?
