While I don’t know about any practices and I haven’t heard their entire catalog, I’ve been listening through the Bliss Out series by Darla Records and loving it. Darla Records is Sweet Trip’s label. The Bliss Out series is a series of 20 records, Sweet Trips debut album is 11th in the series. Great electronic rock, some ambient stuff. I’m really digging it this far

They're ALL leeches.
David Letterman used to refer to "record company weasels" on his show. My feeling is is there any *other* kind of record company employee?
On the one hand, labels bring us a world of great music. On the other hand, they press artists to stay commercial, which tends to suppress creativity and growth in all but the most established acts. When signing new artists, they look at the whole ball of wax: Material (of course), live capability, visual presentation, charisma, and probably a couple more variables. The result is some really good MUSICAL acts never see the light of day because maybe the lead singer was too shy, the guitarists didn't move around the stage enough, the drummer wasn't a madman enough.
