What program are you using?

It lights up when I turn it on but it only shows up in sound, video, game controllers in device manager. I also cant figure out how to try to select it in audacity. Probably just retarted but wfc

you need a DAW or notation program, brainlet. Its literally just a collection of buttons and switches.

Yeah trying to use audacity but it wont let me select the fucking piano or anything

yeah audacity doesn't have midi compatibility. Its an audio-editing program, not a DAW.

so then what free program do i need? since im a broke ass

Reaper.

everyone just pirates ableton.

like the others said you need a DAW, like Ableton or Fruity Loops etc there are loads paid and free

oh and I think there are some programs that will just work as an input for a midi controller that don't have sequencers or anything, if that's all you want. Actually you can interface with Multiplayerpiano.com.

dude why would you buy a midi if you know this little? use Reaper, it has a month free then I think you can still keep using it anyway. It's great

i didnt. it was laying around gathering dust in my parents house and i wanted to learn

Okay i got it thanks for helping me become less retarted guys

>he bought a midi keyboard to use in audacity

fagetto i just want to learn the damn piano that was laying around you dry rubber band of a colonoscopy

You need:
- a DAW that can handle MIDI input
- a MIDI controller (check)
- a VST, or something that makes noise when fed MIDI data
- a computer which will act as the heart of all this software & handle the plugged in controller (check)

Plug the controller in. Open your DAW of choice. Not Audacity. Assign the MIDI controller. The process of doing this differs from DAW to DAW. Search Google or YouTube for something like "how to assign MIDI controller in [x]"
Open a new track in your DAW. Choose a channel for the MIDI controller. For now, we'll just select "all channels," or the closest thing to it. If that's not an available option, just select Channel 1.
Now choose a plugin you've downloaded and run it inside that track. A plugin is basically the instrument that will be the thing that makes noise in reaction to MIDI input. It can come in the form of a VST plugin, an AU plugin, or a Javascript plugin. Those are the most popular forms. Make sure the MIDI output is synced to the same channel you chose. You won't have to do this if you selected, "All channels."
You should be good to go now. Turn the volume up and press a key to make a sound. If you're using Reaper, you'll need to record arm first and turn on track monitoring. (Hit the little round red button inside the track, off to the left. Then click the tiny speaker icon until it's green.)

Hope this helps.

Not OP, but just wanted to acknowledge a helpful/concise reply

you're the best kind of user

Possibly the only user on this godforsaken board that doesn't deserve to be hit by a bus full of mental patients

Thank you for your kind words!

download fl studio 12 off of google like everyone just use the KeyGen.

FL studio actually goes after pirates. Ableton is the way.

if your just a hobbyist your fine for the most part but if you want to """""produce""""" and make money you need a license. Reaper is kinda similar, 25k cap.

Download a cracked version of FL Studio if you're broke
